The hot Nevada day was slowly turning into a slightly less hot Nevada night. The red horizon was slowly pulling the remains of the sun behind the Earth. The skies were turning dark - but they were clear. Sniper kept his optics on them, his gaze shifting between the stars that were slowly becoming more visible. His frequency was open and he performed a scan of the airwaves every few minutes. While his lanky, green frame appeared calm and composed, like always, he was anxiously waiting for someone.
Would Starscream answer his call? The Decepticon Commander possessed a nature that Sniper had always found rather predictable, but this time around - he couldn't be sure. The things that had happened with Knock Out might have hurt his chances. But then, Sniper also knew that the past alliance between himself and Starscream concerned no other mechanism. And Sniper knew how to play the Commander - far better than anyone else did. No matter what Knock Out would say, Sniper's word carried more weight. Even, or especially, after Sniper's possible change of faction.
Sniper stood by a rust colored stone wall, right before an entrance to a cave. Starscream was a coward. And Sniper wasn't going to meet the Commander in a place where there was an option for him to take flight and flee before the spy had ripped the clearance codes off of his hard drives.
Taking the first chance Starscream had he left to get information. Or it had better. Sniper had left and not made contact since. The spy had been a great help while a Decepticon. Starscream could only think Sniper would be better now dealing with the Autobots. Starscream was sure the Autobot fools had let Sniper wonder all around and enjoy the freedom. It would mean Sniper had amazing information.
There was a plan of course. As there was the slight chance Sniper would think Starscream was at fault for what Sniper went though. A lower processor thought but one Starscream knew how to deal with. It was Soundwave and his worry that lead to the trouble. And Megatron for some reason, Starscream would figure that out when the talk came to that topic.
Having left the Nemesis Starscream went to the cliff and the cave Sniper had gone to. Starscream had been watching the place long kliks, near a breem before flying over and then dropping with easy and grace down to meet the former Decepticon spy.
The wings of the Seeker were up and half forward in a position that showed Starscream was pleased. “Sniper! Thank the All Spark you are well. I worried what had come of you. Only stories and rumors could be found to explain your absence.” Starscream however did not get to close to the cave. A flyer would never get near a cave much less go in such a closed place. The guess was Sniper wanted to get Starscream into the cave and take his revenge on the wrong mech. Or maybe Sniper wanted privacy for old times, in which case maybe Starscream would go in the cave.
Sniper's optics narrowed into red slits as they observed the Air Commander's graceful landing. While he knew better than to blow his act, Sniper had a hard time dismissing the urge to reach out and strange the glitch. Double crossing pile of scrap metal. Or, that was the thought that kept plaguing the spy's processor. His faceplate, however, betrayed none of these thoughts. He looked as composed as ever - with a tiny touch of his signature grumpiness.
"Don't waste your breath on me, Seeker," Sniper muttered, noting how Starscream put out a notable effort to assure the spy he had been worried. However, his voice rung hollow to Sniper's sensors. Slight displeasure lingered over the spy's expression. He stepped closer to Starscream, closing some of the gap between them. "Your only concern is your own sorry aft," the spy was as grumpy as ever - but even the Seeker must have known he was speaking the truth.
Sniper glanced around the deserted area very quickly. He was certain that the Seeker had come alone, since the nature of their alliance had been questionable at best. If any of the Decepticons should get a wind of it, Starscream would be scrapped as quickly and brutally as Sniper had been.
"And you are very well aware of what happened," Sniper continued, strangling his anger for the moment. "However, while my allegiance to the Decepticon cause might have been compromised-," he started, his voice calm and composed. ::There is still a question of our ... understanding.:: Sniper switched to secure transmission, his eyes narrowing slightly. They flashed a bit of the greed he had shared with the Seeker a while back. But now, other reasons stood behind the expression, even if Starscream possessed no means to know about them.

There was a smile, or smirk, on Starscream’s face plate. It was hard to tell which it was with him. Sniper was the same greedy, selfish mech from before. How wonderful. It seemed for Sniper at least once a Decepticon always a Con. The smile or smirk Starscream had went to a smirk for sure. “Sniper I did worry about you. As having a spy was a great benefit to me. It is a shame you can no longer work and spy on Megatron or the others.” Starscream gave a half nod at Sniper’s other comments. “Very well yes I made sure to know what happen to you. I had to….as you said, make sure my own aft was in the clear.”
The smirk before was nothing to the smirk now on Starscream’s faceplate and the wings went through a slow and lazy dance. A show the Seeker was well and truly happy.
::Understanding? And by what would you mean?:: The optics glowed a dark red while the wings continued to dance. Starscream was ecstatic with the turn of events so far. Seems the ex-Decepticon had really not changed at all and still had an amount of greed that over shadowed he ability. Ah how wonderful. Starscream might make this meeting go as he wanted after all.
That was more like it, thought Sniper, when Starscream's obvious facade cracked and his true intensions shone trhough. The motion of his wings deceived his playful mood. Yet, Sniper didn't echo the smirk which lingered on the Seeker's face. Not until the Seeker mentioned his unfortunate lack of a spy on board the Nemesis. Sniper lifted his head, the sinister glow of his optics showing a very faint glimpse of smugness. While he obviously was no Starscream, Sniper luckily knew how to play the Commander to his own advantage.
"Yes, you run your mouth way too much to make even a decent Scout," he said idly. "So I understand the extent of your loss. However-" Sniper's optics, which carried a ghost of a vicious smile in them, would glance at the entrance of the cave behind him. When his gaze returned to Starscream, he closed what remained of the space between them. He was close enough to land a touch - or a deathstrike. But neither happened. "-the current ... settlement doesn't mean you no longer have a spy in your possession." Even if Sniper's processor struggled with this lie, it came out of him in a way surprisingly convincing way. It was even accompanied by an expression ecquivalent of a mysterious browlift.
::That, and ... other things,:: he transmitted eventually, answering the Seeker's question about their "understanding". The answer only raised more questions. ::But you don't expect us to discuss such things in the open, do you?:: He destured slightly towards the dark mouth of the cave. ::Your frequency was easy enough to track as it was,:: he ended with a snark.
Starscream smiled at the comment Sniper made. It was true the Seeker liked to talk too much to make a spy or scout. It made life on the Nemesis much harder. With Sniper Starscream had learned much and knew things he would have almost no way to know otherwise. Even if the sad part was Starscream had yet to be able to use the info and have the outcome be what he wanted. The opportunity would come again. Starscream was sure and when it did he would again try.
When Sniper came close Starscream was worried but took it all in easy. Sniper was acting just like he had before. Starscream smiled at the spy. Starscream had full thought after some thought that Sniper would not damage him. And what was said after confirmed it. “It is good to know you can still be true to yourself.” The look at the cave was worrisome. Starscream had no thought to even try to go in.
Starscream kept his smirk. ::I see no way the cave will help. We can stay in the overhang part.::
There was an expression - ecquivalent of a little browlift. But within a couple of seconds it turned into a very subtle smirk. Starscream was being careful which meant Sniper held some power in this peculiar situation. The spy stood close, his optics gazing up at those of the Seeker's. He leaned in a bit and raised a digit. He traced the insignia of the Commander's chest with the faintest touch of his claw. A part of him wanted to strike right through the slagger's chest plate, snuffing his spark on the way, but he knew better than to blow everything to hell when he had gotten this far.
"Are you scared, Commander?" he questioned trhough a subtle smirk. The spy's faceplate lingered relatively close to that of the Seeker's. And he sounded somewhat amused. "It's not like I can blame you, but-," he continued, but switched into a secured transmission yet again. He glanced at the skies and let his claw fall away from the Seeker's chest slowly. ::-it's your aft on the line if Soundwave is watching.:: Of course, the possibility of this happening was slim, since Sniper knew very well how to take care of fragile business like this - especially after what had been done to him. And the more he could avoid Soundwave's attenttion, the better. Before he got to rip the mech's head off his shoulders, that was. But appealing to Starscream's cowardly nature was his best bet at the moment.
That, and the ghost of a touch that had lingered on the Commander's chest - there was something about it. It had an alluring energy, as though it would have been an echo of the questionable times they had shared.
The look and movement triggered memory files in Starscream. A time not long ago and yet a life time ago for Sniper. Starscream watched the spy’s servo move. Saw the place it would touch. Sniper still loved Starscream’s insignia. Starscream had never understood why. But looking back at the history now and where they both were Starscream thought he might understand. The smirk on Starscream’s faceplate became more seductive much like Sniper was acting. “Still the obsession with the insignia…or what is below it.” The seductive smile shifted for a short time to more of a smirk.
Starscream let his vocalizer shift to seductive as well. “I fear no one Sniper. Unlike you. Tell me. Do you still want to take over Soundwave’s job or has your only desire in life change to wanting to be the Autobots little pet?” There was always a chance Soundwave was over hearing. The spy was the best of the best and it might never be known what all he did hear. However Starscream knew going into a cave would not help. Still Sniper seemed to truly want to go in.
Moving a few steps more into the cave Starscream was sure to stand where Sniper would be in farther and there for Starscream could keep the ex-Decepticon in the cave as long as he wanted. It also would give Starscream a clear run to get out should he change his mind or the situation take a turn for the worst.
Had Sniper's claw still been around the Seeker's chest, it would have likely left a scratch behind. While Starscream's words weren't exactly shy of the truth, Sniper despised being called anyone's pet. The small smirk he had work fractured slightly upon hearing this metaphor. Yet, it didn't take it long to regroup. He took a few steps away from the Seeker in order to lead him into the shadow cast by the cave. The movement was slow.
"No, Commander. Being someone's pet doesn't sit well with my nature," Sniper replied through a subtle smirk. "I am not like you, after all," he made a light remark of the Seeker's status of being second to Megatron, who had been playing Starscream like an instrument for ions now.
Once they were finally protected from direct spying attempts, Sniper glanced around the hideout he had picked and sent one final scan through the airwaves. He wanted to confirm that Starscream's frequency and signature were the only ones occupying them. No other Decepticons - or Autobots for that matter. Sniper's goals were separate from those of his current allies. And should any of them witness his questionable methods of obtaining data for his mission, they might see it as a … conflict of interest.
The red orbs of Sniper's optics burned in the dark as they adjusted their gaze on Starscream, who stood against the weak moon light that poured to the cave.
"But what I want now-," Sniper begun eventually, his optics narrowing into vicious little slits. "-is to see your higher ups taken apart. The slower the better." This time he wasn't even lying - only leaving some crucial names out of the list. The grudge in his voice was so thick and vivid it was hard to miss. "And I figured you would benefit from such an arrangement," he added after a brief pause, his tone softening slightly.
There was a great pleasure in cracking that smirk Sniper had. Starscream was sure to not let the pleased feeling show in his wings or in his EMF however.
There was almost another feeling of pleasure at Sniper’s come back. Not because of the normal reason most would think of but because Starscream loved to bicker back and forth and Sniper unlike many was good at it. Too many lost processor power when they followed Megatron a long time. It was nice to “talk” to another.
“If I am some ones pet I don’t know if there would be word for how low you are with the Autobots. Do they even let you move without a guard? Or do they just keep their little pet in a room until needed. In which case where is your new master?”
The thought was in Starscream’s processor that it could be Sniper had wanted Starscream here only to argue. That would make this dull unless something came out of it but it seemed the chances of that happening where low. Starscream watched as Sniper seemed to check for EMF signatures. From Sniper’s reaction there were none. That was good for both of them.
Starscream’s wings went out and flat but riding high and his optics were a glowing bright red. “I am SIC Sniper. Only Megatron is above me.” There was a nasty laugh after. “But we can add Soundwave and Shockwave if you want to your list of those to be taken apart.” Starscream was clearly happy, the wings again danced but with an aggressive edge to the dance. The optics stayed the bright red, and the smile was all smirk.
Sniper stood outside of touching distance, his faceplate empty as he listened the Commander add to their play of insults. He let his weight swing slowly towards the wall of the cave, leaning lightly against it to give a calm and relaxed impression - even if his processor was compromised with the grudge and anger he harbored. Especially towards the Decepticon who stood before him, back turned against the night.
"I'll have you know that the Autobots don't give me orders," well, technically they were more like ... requests rather than orders, anyway. "I bow to no master," then there was a slight smirk. "-not like you do." And then the smirk changed into something a tad more subtle.
"And speaking of masters-," he begun, his optics narrowing slightly as their gaze remained on Starscream. "-should you still want to become one, we now possess access to both Autobot and Decepticon intel," he said. "And if I know anything about this war-," the spy continued, something sharp and greedy flashing in his optics. It wasn't even an act this time around, but rather, playing with this thought still managed to amuse a part of him. "-it is how to use intel to shape its course." The old information thief in him spoke.
The smirked stayed but the wings slowed and son after stopped shifting back into their normal place even if a little higher than before. The optics went to the normal color as well. Starscream looked at the former Decepticon closely. Sniper might want revenge on Starscream in addition to the others but Starscream would see the blow before the grounder had time to react. All would work out well, and with Starscream the new leader. The wings nearly started to dance again.
Hearing the spy Starscream was sure it was a lie. “You are a liar Sniper, the Autobots tell you what to do and think. I am sure you at least can think for yourself, or am I wrong?” Starscream’s smirk fell at the talk of himself having a master and his wings went to an aggressive posture. “I think we all know, even Megatron, I have no master but myself. I have only those who think they are a master.” It was one fact that got him in trouble the most. Megatron might be the leader of the Decepticons but not of Starscream. Megatron did have his use however.
At Sniper’s words of having information of both Cons and Bots the wings of Starscream did start their dance again with only joy. The smirk came back as well. Starscream’s servos came together and tapped again and again the tips. “This is of great use. We can kill the Autobots and after I will become the ruler of the Decepticons.”
Something hostile flickered in Sniper's snug EM field very briefly. It seemed that the Seeker's remark on the Autobots giving the former Decepticon spy orders had poked through his cool. However, the wrinkle in his field smoothed out shortly enough and something equivalent of a brow lift occurred in its place.
"Be that as it may-," by this, Sniper was referring to their talk about both the Autobots and Starscream's master, Megatron. He was brushing the subject aside because Starscream seemed to be capable of poking it in a way that would put Sniper's objective in under the scope, should the continue discussing such matters. "-you need my help-," his voice took a tiny shift towards a sort of a purr as Sniper peeled his weight off the wall and approached to Commander with slow movements of his long limbs.
And soon, he was up close again, his red optics burning such a little below those of the Seeker's. There was an alluring, yet a vicious kind of a gleam to them - and underneath them, Sniper's mouth curved into a very subtle smile. A claw clinked againt the Seeker's chest in a very light, almost teasing manner. "-and I need yours." There was a dark energy circling around these words as Sniper spoke them. They held a certain kind of mystery.

The Seeker’s wings kept their dance up. The smirk going more to a sly look as Sniper talked. Starscream was remembering why he liked the spy so much. “You seem to want to change the subject Sniper.” The humor in Starscream’s EM Field was strong. “Very well.”
Watching Sniper come closer the EM field changed and shifted, the wings to took on a new dance. It was a change like before and the time would be both amazing and dangerous if Starscream was not carful. There was a flare at the talk of Starscream needing anyone.
As Sniper touched Starscream the wings again moved to a more aggressive and dominate place and not the playful joy that had been. “Yes.” A short pause. “I do need your expert skills. And after you have helped me.” Again a short pause. “You will be the Spy Master, with the old one….gone.”
So, the Seeker was being careful around Sniper? Such detail could be easily detected from the way his EM field flared when Sniper approached him. While it was bump in the road (and one Sniper couldn't blame Starscream for), the spy was very capable of working his way around it. He let his red gaze drop on the level of the Seeker's chest plate for a moment. His servo still lingered on the metal. Sniper let his digits spread across the surface in a slow manner and form a proper touch, a connection, before his gaze climbed back on the level of the Seeker's eyes.
"I see you have yet to forget how to please me, Commander," Sniper replied with a purr. Revenge was his spark's only desire at the moment, and the idea of eliminating Soundwave was still a very pleasant one. Maybe more so now than before, even.
There was an odd, vicious little glimmer in the crimson that peeked from beneath the spy's helm. His mouth formed a smile. It wasn't of a very pleasant nature, but something Starscream must have found familiar. It was an expression Sniper had worn often when they had traded information and ... energy. He leaned closer, but just for a little bit. There was a very slight pressure that pushed against the Seeker's chest. Sniper could almost imagine the slagger's spark beating beneath his palm.
"But in order for me to return the favor-," the spy continued, the tips of his cawls tapping against the Seeker's chest in a way that might have provoked a certain mood. His optics narrowed slightly. "-I need coordinates. And a security clearance."
