Character Info
Name: Fortress Maximus
Age: Warborn. Mentally in his late-thirties
Gender: Male
Species: Cybertronian
Faction: Autobot
Occupation/Specialization: Former prison warden/ Security
Appearance/Altmode: A very tall robot, roughly the same height as Megatron, and broad across the shoulders. The heavy tank treads on his back make him appear even taller than he actually is. His armour is predominantly blue, grey, and black with red accents, including his optics. He transforms into an M1A2 Abrams tank.
History: Though he was forged an Autobot warbuild, Fortress Maximus began his career as a military architect. Only when the war intensified did he reluctantly turn his skills towards the combat function he was originally designed for. Despite this hesitation, over time he came to stand apart as a powerful warrior and a trusted officer.
As the war dragged on, he rose in rank. At Simanzi he became well-known for having killed a large number of Decepticons in battle. Despite his fearsome reputation Maximus continued to harbour a strong dislike for warfare. Acknowledging this, Autobot Command assigned him to the Garrus 9 penitentiary as the warden. Though the prison was known to be a hard place, where Decepticon and Autobot prisoners alike were stripped down to their spark and laser cores, it at least stood apart from the worst of the war. It weathered several Decepticon attacks but did not fall, partly thanks to Fortress Maximus, who had come to develop a hard-bitten edge himself.
As for what happened next... well, everyone knows what happened at Garrus 9.
When the sociopathic Decepticon know as Overlord overran the prison, Maximus was beaten down and thrown to the former inmates, who tore him apart. He survived this, only to undergo three years of brutal torture at the hands of Overlord. When the Wreckers were at last sent in to recover the prison they found the warden half-dead, his limbs and optics removed and his body plugged into the lock of the Aequitas chamber door to serve as a code-crunching 'lockpick'. He survived, but spent the next five years in an Autobot military medical station in a comatose state.
Eventually Maximus made a full physical recovery. However, it was not long before the psychological effects of his confinement and torture became apparent. Formerly known to be a calm and taciturn soldier, he began to display signs of increasing agitation and temper, while refusing to speak a word of what he underwent at the hands of Overlord. Unwilling to admit to himself that he may no longer be fit to serve as an officer, he has travelled to Earth in order to distance himself from Cybertron and the ruins of Garrus 9.
Personality: Taciturn. No-nonsense. Driven. Takes his responsibilities very seriously. Prone to fits of moodiness. Though he does not like to talk, he is a good listener. A loyal Autobot, though conflicted by a loss of faith in his commanding officers as a result of Garrus 9.
Likes: Tearing Decepticons apart. Hard work - anything that keeps his mind occupied. Quiet views. Wide open spaces.
Dislikes: Decepticons. Crowds. Confinement. Disrespect. Being asked about Garrus 9.
Loathes: Overlord.
Strengths: Intelligent. An experienced officer, tactical-minded. Powerful as a frontliner, capable of rending apart lesser opponents with his bare hands. Being a warbuild he is well-armoured, and fast on his feet despite it.
His tank mode is likewise designed purely for combat. Its M256A1 120 mm smoothbore gun is capable of firing armour-piercing kinetic rounds with a muzzle velocity of 1,575 m/sec over a distance of 4,000 meters. Upon impact with a target both the penetrator round and the victim's armour can partially liquefy under the tremendous pressure. Once the armour has been perforated, that part of the penetrator which has not melted, together with the molten armour and fragments that break away from the interior, ricochet inside the victim, potentially resulting in fire and a catastrophic explosion.
Weaknesses: Increasingly unstable as a result of the humiliation and torture he suffered after the fall of the penitentiary, though Maximus struggles to keep it hidden from his fellow Autobots. Towards Decepticons, this instability tends to manifest as a berserker rage. His habit of bottling up his anger and frustration means that it seeps out in other ways, severely compromising his ability to think rationally during times of duress. Though war-weary, he finds himself relentlessly driven to exterminate as many Decepticons as he can. This single-minded hatred leaves him with little capacity for reason or mercy.
His tank mode has its weak points as well. With a top speed of only 60 mph it can easily be outrun and outmanoeuvred by faster, nimbler targets. Above 45 mph Maximus risks damaging his drivetrain and tracks. If an opponent gets in close he will be forced to defend himself with his machine guns, which lack the penetration power of his main gun.
Additionally, as a tank Maximus cannot camouflage readily within human society, meaning that all of his movements are restricted.
Recently he was gifted a heavy sword by Wheeljack. He possesses no skill with a blade and uses it merely as a bludgeoning weapon with a limited range. The weapon is not invulnerable and will break if wielded incorrectly, particularly against strong armours.
Special skills: Though Fortress Maximus has no special skills, he is heavily armed with a fusion-powered photon rifle and twin 7.62 mm M240 machine guns in his legs. His alternate mode is protected by a combination of heavy armour and an AN/VLQ-6 Missile Countermeasure Device that can impede the function of guidance systems of light-of-sight wire and radio-guided anti-tank missiles, as well as thermally and infrared guided missiles.
