Character Info
Name: Air Raid
Age: Human equivalent would be mid-twenties
Gender: Male
Species: Cybertronian
Faction: Autobot
Occupation/Specialization: Aerial Support
Appearance/Altmode: A tall robot, the same height as Starscream. Lanky, though broad across the shoulders to accommodate his thrusters, as well as the folded wings and stabilizers of his alternate mode. Additional thrusters bulk out his heels and lower legs. His armour is predominantly white and dark grey, with red accents. His alternate mode is a Lockheed Martin F-35C Lightning II.
History: Like many of his fellow Aerialbots, Air Raid was once a Decepticon-leaning neutral from the city of Vos. The bombing of the city by Decepticon forces left him reeling, first from shock and betrayal, then anger. In response he immediately joined the Autobots, where he was filed into the growing ranks of the Aerialbots. He spent much of the war patrolling the skies over Iacon and Kalis, vengefully engaging any enemy fliers he came into contact with.
During the last stages of the war, Air Raid proved himself at the Battle of Iacon by fighting off the hordes of aerial Decepticons assaulting the city and providing air support to Autobot troops on the ground. He assisted in other last-ditch missions during the final evacuation of the planet as well, including freeing Autobots prisoners from Kaon detention facilities and performing aerial sabotage runs on numerous Decepticon orbital guns and blockades. He and the other Aerialbots defended the Ark from the Nemesis when the Autobot starship made its desperate flight into the space bridge meant to carry it far from Cybertron, and was left behind after both ships vanished through the portal.
After the Exodus, Air Raid's whereabouts became unknown, even to surviving Aerialbots. He simply disappeared. It was only one month ago that he finally reappeared in an escape pod over the planet Earth. The pod made a landing on autopilot within the icy peaks of the Glärnisch, a mountain in the Swiss Glarus Alps. Air Raid remained in stasis within it for thirty days, blanketed in rock and snow. Only recently was he brought online again, disoriented and apprehensive. After ensuring that the pod was safely hidden he began his long flight to the United States, and the west coast.
If asked, he will merely say that he was stuck guarding Autobot diplomats during his long absence. Boring stuff. Not worth talking about.
Personality: Air Raid is headstrong and reckless, a flippant warrior who has refined the art of flying headlong into his opponents in order to engage them with his preferred style of brutal close quarters combat. The Great War has matured the young Aerialbot however; where he once rushed into danger for his own enjoyment, he now fights with the professional competency of a seasoned front-line soldier. While his habit of shunning long-range tactics in favour of attacking Decepticons head-on tends to put his comrades into the thick of trouble, more often than not he has the skill to help get them back out of it again.
Off the field, Air Raid is a laid-back mech with a carefree sense of humour. He is confident and independent, capable of acting upon his own initiative and making quick-witted plans on the wing. He takes great pride in his flying skills and looks down on those with ground-based alternate modes. Despite this he is respectful of Autobot authority and takes orders well. Mostly.
Likes: Flying. Getting a new mission. A good dirty fight. Showing off. Shooting the breeze. Warm, sunny places. Movies. Femmes.
Dislikes: Decepticons. Bruticus. Being stuck on the ground. Being bored. Being lectured. Navigating Class-C or higher airspace. Snow. Birds.
Strengths: Smart and adventurous. Adaptable, picks up new skills and concepts quickly. Even-tempered, and shrewd enough not be readily provoked into rash actions. He can get into them all on his own.
Air Raid is well-trained in close quarters combat, a rapid-assault fighting style that aims for a fast, violent takeover of an opponent via a precise application of swift and crippling blows. He has adapted this style for both ground and aerial-based combat and backs it up with an integrated scatter blaster, a high damage fully-automatic shotgun that can fire six rounds before requiring a reload. As a jet he is a skilled flier, with a maximum speed of 1200mph and a service ceiling of 60,000 feet. He is armed with a 4-barrelled gatling laser cannon and external pylons on his wings capable of carrying 15,000lbs worth of air-to-air or air-to-surface missiles.
Weaknesses: Reckless and bold, a bad combination of traits that can get him into more trouble than he is capable of dealing with by himself. Bereft of orders, he becomes easily restless and prone to acting out on his own. His scatter blaster is a low-range combat weapon, and dismal in a firefight. Unless he is in his alternate mode, Air Raid himself is a very poor long-range fighter. Even as a jet he tends to rely on the 'spray and pray' method of aerial combat. This can overheat his laser cannon very quickly, forcing him to take defensive action until it has a chance to cool down.
Finally, like most fliers his armour is mostly light-grade and will not stand up to sustained or heavy weapon fire.
Special skills: Oddly enough, he has a shaky understanding of Old Cybertronian and a decent, if patchy grasp on Cybertronian history and politics. He tries to keep this a secret from other Autobots.
Extra Info: Before his disappearance after the Exodus, Air Raid completely cut off all ties to his fellow Aerialbots. He refuses to re-establish contact with his old wingmates and will not explain the reason why.
