Name: Backdraft
Age (or human equivalent): ~30
Gender (or human equivalent): Mech
Species: Cybertronian
Faction: Decepticons
Original Occupation: Backdraft was low-caste, also a gladiator before the war.
Occupation/Specialization: Demolitions (D'ya need it bombed, burned, or Hulk-smashed?)
Appearance/Altmode: Backdraft is a solidly built mech equivalent in size to Breakdown. He's mostly black, but his armor plating carries the asinine custom paint job of bright orange flames. His altmode is a '78 Ford Bronco tricked out with a lift kit and big rock-crawling mud tires.
History: Backdraft began as a low-caste mech. His size, strength, and proclivity towards smashing things led him to the life of a gladiator in Kaon, a life he thrived at. It's always been assumed that Backdraft was an idiot. Truth is he's got some smarts in that thuggish helm of his; he just doesn't care to apply himself to anything but destruction. It made him a good gladiator, paying attention to what did the most damage when he hit where. After Megatron led him out of the pits and into the Decepticon army, Backdraft began applying his processor power elsewhere, finding more learned 'Cons and coercing them into teaching him how to be more efficient at "kabooming things". Being in the Decepticon army has afforded him at least a nominal education in this respect, and plenty of opportunities to smash things, explode things, and burn other things to the ground. It also gives him ample opportunity to seek out new knowledge about how to be more efficient at wrecking stuff. He's at his most useful if there's a structure his superiors need to get into. He's traveled enough to have lost his accent, or deliberately kicked it, but he has never stopped speaking with painfully bad grammar and awkwardly folded-up words.
Lately, despite his skill for destruction, it seems the Decepticon cause has found Backdraft more useful in the energon mines, preventing explosions. He misses the action, but it's good to feel appreciated for his unique skillset.
Personality: Unlike many Decepticons, Backdraft is a forthright and jovial sort of mech. Cheerful and quick to grin, Backdraft is also strangely honest for a Decepticon. Of course, that might be because lying takes more effort than he's willing to expend on anything that isn't beating a sparring partner or enemy into the dirt, or reducing something to flaming rubble. Nobody's ever going to trust Backdraft to be competent in a position of leadership or authority, and he's completely okay with that. Just give him something to do, and he's a loyal soldier. Backdraft is also a pyromaniac who enjoys learning everything he can about fire...and explosions, and other kinds of demolition.
He's also known for leaving enemies alive after he's beaten them into the dirt. Killing them would take all the fun out of potential rematches. He returns the rematch courtesy to every opponent who has left him alive when they've been victorious.
Despite his general good cheer, Backdraft doesn't really make friends. His best relationship skills are, as the natives of Earth might say, for making frenemies. He can be delighted to see someone and want to smash them into the ground, after all. Or be delightedly smashed into the ground, if that's the way the fight happens to go...
Likes: Bad jokes, fire, explosions, brawling, fire, casual interfacing, fire, explosions, chatter, and fire.
Dislikes: Picking on enemies that don't fight back, being given a mission where he's required to be subtle, water.
Strengths/Weapons:
Gladiator: Backdraft used to fight in the pits of Kaon. He's tough, experienced, and more tactical than he appears to be.
Burn, baby, burn: Instead of a blaster, Backdraft is equipped with a flamethrower. It doesn't have a blaster's range by any stretch of the imagination, but it's a lot more fun.
Demolitionist: Backdraft's smarter than he looks and sounds, but only about things that interest him. How to tear things down, set things on fire, and blow stuff up with skill as well as flair...definitely interests him. He knows more about destruction than...most sane Cybertronians.
Axe-Man: Backdraft can transform his servos into large axe-heads for heavy-hitting melee combat
Weaknesses:
Gladiator: Backdraft, being an up-close and personal kind of fighter, is fragged if he's attacked at range, and he's got no defense against an aerial opponent except to duck and cover and hope they get close.
Marksmanship: There's a reason Backdraft traded in his blaster. Don't give him a blaster, or a gun, or even a rock to throw. His aim is terrifying(ly bad).
Pyromaniac: Fire is pretty. Explosions even more so. Backdraft's long-running love affair with all things pyromania can occasionally distract him, which, in combat, could be lethal. One day he may get slagged just because he's too busy staring at the pretty fire to fight back.
Frenemy: Backdraft enjoys leaving his opponents alive for the joy and fun of ongoing rivalry. His opponents don't always share the same views on fun, and leaving them alive can often bite Backdraft in the aft.
Special skills : Backdraft is skilled at hiding his wits behind a screen of horrific grammar, and he's by now become something of an expert in fire science and demolitions through experience, experimentation, and knowledge he's gleaned through other mechs. This comes in handy outside of combat, as he can force his way into places. Whether he's blowing up buildings or hacking his way through a blockage in an energon mine, Backdraft will find all sorts of ways to make himself useful.
Extra Info: Backdraft's peculiar dialect is no accent. He's merely too beligerent to enunciate, too lazy to articulate, and thinks he's good at making up words as he goes along.
His theme song is Nickelback's "Burn it to the Ground"
