Name: Dusk
Age: Middle-aged mech; equivalent of mid 30’s, early 40’s.
Gender: Mech - identifies as male
Species: Cybertronian
Faction: Autobot
Original Occupation: Guardian
Specialization: ground force; 2nd class Field Medic
Alt/Mode: 2012 Xterra - Black
Appearance:
He’s not your largest mech, but certainly is not your smallest either. He is a ground frame with a specialization in front-line combat so he runs larger than your average mech with relatively thick plating and a dense, tall frame. There is little detail to his coloring, simple matte black finishes over black mesh, a few silver touches in and around his abdominal plating and helm where his alt mode splits, though in some areas the colors might be scuffed, faded, or aged due to general wear and tear.
Personality:
Dusk is a mech mostly known for his loyal and protective nature; most likened to a big dog, he is extremely cuddly, until there is a threat or something is amiss. He is definitely a social mech, not only because he is outgoing by nature, but also in the sense that he often strives to make those close to him feel welcome and at ease, with the use of anything from quiet down time to outright rave party. He will often attempt to avoid problems between himself and others, and if this means throwing his hands up so that said other can win an arguement, so be it-- that said though, he is by no means passive or submissive.
Though disciplined (technically...) he tends to live by a motto of ‘work 15, play 15’, and there isn’t much Dusk will do that doesn’t involve some type of wink or playful jab. He is certainly a joker, so much so it borderlines inappropriate in certain situations, right down to laughing in the face of a cannon; a trait he would claim as normal (for him), though some might argue that point.
In light of the last few million years of history however, those who knew Dusk in early days or pre-war would find a slightly different mech. Where once he was almost always at ease to the point of laziness, he would now be noticeably jittery, always active. Still quick to grin and joke, but constantly moving or working on something of interest. Much of the time he would use his medical work as a method of focus to keep himself busy, a job he’s certainly good at (despite how creepy he can make himself sound...).
History:
Dusk was originally sparked into the Guardians of Cybertron, where he served up until its final decommissioning. Afterwards he, like all the others, was reassigned to the beginnings of the Autobot forces. And while he was tempted on more than one occasion to join other Guardians (heard through the grapevine) that had defected, it was witnessing the attacks on civilians that finally solidified his ties to the Autobots.
That didn't stop the near constant wear and tear on his spark that shooting a fellow Cybertronian had, though. The conflict between his actions and base coding and spark traits of a Guardian were something that he was able to personally manage for a short period of time, but eventually, like so many others, it began to take its toll. At first the cracks manifested themselves as minor physical glitches in his systems, but as it wore and without anything to turn his focus on it became increasingly more difficult to manage alone.
Finally he enlisted the aid a fellow unit medic, one who he had grown to trust, who was able to manage the worst of Dusk's symptoms with a series of regular medical patches. These would end up staying the worst of the damage, but not everything, especially after Cybertron went dark.
After the Exodus the remainder of Dusk's unit were shuffled from here to there by what was left behind of Autobot Command for miscellaneous things. The most notable of which was a retaking of a strategic outpost where the unit got more than they bargained for, such as the remaining 'Con supplies and a stash of POW's, including the future Autobot Legion. The rest seemed to go by at a slow trudge for Dusk, very slow, until the transmission of a certain Prime reached out towards his end of the 'verse, drawing him towards the frontline of Earth.
Likes: Togetherness, hangin’ out, physical or athletic games (lobbing ftw), guns... explosions... a lot of daredevil type stunts, trying new things, busy work.
Dislikes: Internal (as in cohort or unit) conflict, loneliness
Strengths/Weapons:
Field Medic -- During his time as a Guardian he received training for a secondary function which for him happened to be repair/medicine. He’s considered 2nd class using this mostly for in-field situations, making him a resourceful mech who can jerry-rig in a pinch or lend a pair of experienced servos in the Bay.
Big Dude -- He may not be loaded down with cannons in every subspace compartment you can find, but he’s certainly got what he needs to hold his own as a military build- including your standard armor integraded firearms and mix of close-range weaponry. For Dusk, this usually means doubling up medical equipment as weaponry. Among his favorites, wrist-mounted lasers that double as cutting for medical purposes.
Armor -- His armor is flexible plating that allows for him to gather to a certain area or flare out his where it’s needed for more protection.
Weaknesses:
Glitched -- Medical intervention and patches hold him steady for the most part, though without having reworked his coding for a specific focus it leaves him noticeably unsteady. While he will subconsciouly latch onto whatever’s in front of him to protect (ie - whatever unit he’s with), any time in between will leave him with a manic energy. There can be good and bad days depending, ranging from basic personality malfunctions to entire weapon’s system lock-up.
Dual Function -- In Dusk’s case, because of his other function, he’s not packing as much as your average eat-bolts-for-breakfast frontliners because he has to fit medical equipment on his person as well.
Up and Under -- Flexible plating does allow for protection where it’s needed, however on the flip side it’s also easier for opponents to get under to his more vulnerable areas.
