Name: Robert Epps (Bobby to his friends)
Age (or human equivalent): 35
Gender (or human equivalent): male
Species: Human
Faction: US Air Force / NEST
Occupation/Specialization: Technical Sergeant - Combat Controller
Appearance: Epps is a 6-foot-tall, well-muscled African-American man. He is dark-skinned, brown-eyed, and has a closely-shaven head. He is, to use the technical term, ripped, as he is a highly-trained military combatant and looks the part. Epps wears military fatigues when on-duty and jeans and t-shirts when off-duty...or when not wanting to APPEAR to be on duty.
History: Robert Epps was born in Philadelphia, PA to a working-class family. His father was a jack-of-all-trades and handyman who did a little of everything: plumbing, electrical wiring, construction, etc. He taught young Bobby a lot about building and repairing things and helped nurture Bobby's innate grasp of spatial dynamics and mathematics. Unfortunately, he also taught Bobby the value of familial loyalty by demonstrating what NOT to do, as he abandoned his family when his wife was pregnant with Bobby's younger sister. Bobby and his sister spent much of their childhoods working odd jobs to help out with money at home. It wasn't an easy life, but they were happy, and his mother and sister were great sources of strength and purpose for him.
When Bobby graduated high school, he had excellent grades but very little money. He enlisted in the Air Force, where his aptitude tests earned him a spot in the combat controller pipeline (http://www.afsoc.af.mil/specialtactics/ccttraining.asp) Bobby loved it. He loved the technical detail of it as well as being pushed physically and mentally. He was being expected to do a tough job and do it well, and being able to deliver was a source of great pride and confidence. He also just enjoyed the military lifestyle and after a few years couldn't imagine doing anything else.
As a combat controller, Epps spent a lot of time in the field in the Middle East, especially Iraq and Afghanistan. Epps' involvement with NEST began in Qatar. While working with the 75th Rangers under William Lennox, Epps and co. ran into a Decepticon mining operation while on a counter-terrorism mission. The mission went bad fast and decimated their team. Upon being debriefed, Lennox and Epps found themselves talking to the head of a small, elite, and very, very secret part of Special Operations Command called NEST....
Personality: Epps is a pretty laid-back guy, as a rule. He is easy to get along with and is a team player. When called to action, though, Epps is a no-nonsense, get-it-done type. He takes orders (from those he trusts) without question and will focus on getting the job done. He has a strong set of family values and is actually kinda digging being able to go home to his wife and kids every night.
Likes: A job well done, puzzles and challenges to solve, his family, hip-hop and rap music, new and shiny weapons technology, being part of a close-knit team.
Dislikes: Being ordered around by civilians, nonsensical orders, Decepticons, weird food.
Strengths/Weapons:
Close-quarters and Small Arms Fighting - Epps carries an M9 Beretta semi-automatic handgun and a bootknife, both of which he can use to deadly effect (on humans, at least). He's also mastered the standard-issue M16 and has experience with a broad variety of pistols, rifles, grenades, and heavy weapons such as rocket and grenade launchers.
Strong and Agile - Epps is a man in peak physical condition. He can run, swim, climb, jump, etc. in the top percentile for human males.
Combat Controller - Epps is adept at assessing a situation and calculating the strengths and weaknesses of an enemy's positioning. Given the right clearance and communications equipment, he can call in air strikes on a target and blow them to smithereens. Lacking that, he also has demolitions and tactics training and can use both to shape a battlefield.
Weaknesses:
Small and Squishy - He's human. Small and squishy, compared to just about every Cybertronian out there.
Carried Away - Epps can lose his cool when under extended fire, especially if his team has taken casualties. He gets caught up in pressing the fight and doesn't always see retreat as an option.
Special skills (that are not weapon related):
Bring the Rain - As part of his combat controller training, Epps is a fully-certified air traffic controller. He has the know-how to call in and coordinate air strikes or simple airplane movement from the ground.
Military Badass - Epps' training and combat experience has given him varied skills such as demolitions, combat diving, parachuting, small unit tactics, wilderness survival, orienteering, infiltration, and covert operations. If your average military badass can do it, Epps has probably done it, seen it done, or been trained to do it.
Extra Info:
Epps met his wife, Monique, on leave, and they fell into a torrid whirlwind love affair that has lasted 12 years and is still going strong. He has four kids, aged 11-2 : three girls and one boy. He is a dedicated family man and father.
