Name: Shockwave
Age (or human equivalent): If he were human, mid-forties.
Gender (or human equivalent): Male.
Species: Cybertronian
Faction: Decepticon
Original Occupation: Scientist and Engineer.
Occupation/Specialization: Decepticon Head of Science.
Appearance/Altmode: Shockwave’s a sliver shorter than Megatron, but he is wider and possibly heavier than his leader, which is no small feat. Purple and raw-metal gray overall, he has a massive chest which carries a fairly sizable cockpit window of some sort over most of it, and very large shoulders. His arms are smaller and unadorned, but his forearms are sizable; in the case of the left, it’s been removed entirely and replaced with a very large energy gun, chain-connected to one side of his back strut. His head is a single, expressionless wedge with one large red optic and four slender head spikes set back in his helm. His hips are oddly narrow, but his legs are once again very heavily built, with very large forelegs and double-heeled, solid feet, making it almost impossible to unbalance him. He has four small, narrow winglets at his back.
His alt-mode is currently that of a Cybertronian hover-tank. On arrival to Earth, if he can be persuaded to acquire a local alt-mode, he’ll take on a M109 Paladin self-propelled howitzer, keeping the purple-and-dark-gray colors.
History: (Basic data as per the TF: P Wiki) Very little is known about Shockwave’s time before his presence among the Decepticon ranks. He was a scientist, that much is known, although no data on his sparking remains.
His scientific pursuits have always been exceptional, but they’ve often toed the line when it comes to ethics or morality. No one is disputing that some of his greatest inventions advanced Cybertronian society by leaps and bounds, but his penchant to… volunteer those who work for or with him for his experiments is just as well known.
He first appears on the early records of the War as a supporter of Megatronus and his protests against the status quo. Whether he actually believed that matters for their society could not stand, or had other ulterior motives, only he knows, but he did provide his support to Megatronus completely, and when the situation exploded into violence, he was all too glad to create weaponry and field equipment for Megatron and his troops. That they were experimental, he may have neglected to mention. To anyone.
The testing went well in most cases, anyways. It’s only when he tries to create obedient, but powerful , footsoldiers, that he makes mistakes that can be counted as costly. One such attempt cost him his left hand, when his ‘troops’ went rogue and took it in combat. Still, he adapted, and replaced it with an energy rail-gun that is partially connected to his own nervous and energy systems.
Overtime, he has come to appreciate the benefits of the free society Megatron claims to spouse, as well as the freedom the war grants him to conduct his scientific research however he sees fit. For these reasons if no others, Megatron holds his almost-complete loyalty: as he elevates Shockwave and his research, and grants him unlimited resources and Autobot subjects to conduct that research on, that Shockwave should support him unquestioningly is only… logical.
It was also logical that he could be left behind, both to conduct his research and to hold the Decepticon line against Autobot forces in Cybertron, even if Cybertron was quickly dying. He has done exactly as he was told, which is perhaps his greatest achievement and his biggest weakness both: Cybertron is exactly where it was when he was left behind: the Autobots have gained no ground… but neither has the Decepticon front.
With Cybertron quickly becoming inimical to her own children, however, he finds himself in need to do the unthinkable: abandon his post and seek out his General. It stands to reason that his orders could become outdated. It is the logical solution to seek out new orders.
To this purpose, he has had a small core of his Vehicons scavenge parts from dying Cybertron. He has been exceedingly careful on the instructions for the scavenging, to ensure no Autobot intelligence report, no matter how thoroughly analyzed, can figure out what he’s doing; even his own Vehicons don’t know what he’s up to. He’s also painstakingly preparing a long-term battery of orders for the troops that will remain behind, so that Cybertron will continue to remain ‘exactly as Lord Megatron left it’.
He is in the process of assembling a solar glider – a small vessel powered by multiple sails that will catch solar winds and draw him to the nearest stable wormhole. He doesn’t need to get to Earth, after all; he just needs to get close enough to be heard by Soundwave, and petition for a ‘bridge.
Personality: The acknowledged master of logical thinking, Shockwave always carries himself with the air of a mech well aware of the momentous weight of science on his shoulders. For a mech with no facial expressions except for those closing or opening the shutters of his one optic can provide, he can convey a great many degrees of disappointment and, very rarely, anger, by doing so. He rarely if ever expresses positive emotions, drawing the line at occasional satisfaction when a particularly difficult bit of science comes together neatly.
That doesn’t mean he’s a computer – Shockwave can, and in occasion does, mimic faint emotions just to keep those around him reacting somewhat naturally, as otherwise it would become just too slow and inefficient working with anyone around him. Anger is just the one honest one; if he’s angry at you, then yeah… he’s angry at you.
Likes: Science. Facts. Resilient test subjects. Having to come up with never-before-seen tech. Testing his own creations.
Dislikes: Chaos. Unpredictability. Unexplainable events. Being drawn away from his research for anything less than an order from Megatron.
Strengths/Weapons: Never let it be said that Shockwave is anything but brilliant. His mind is the keenest weapon he possesses, his ability to gather data into a cohesive whole, to extrapolate possible results to any situation, and to come up with new and entirely workable solutions to otherwise unsolvable problems. If there’s a problem with no solution, he’ll invent a solution.
That giant cannon on his left arm is not small boon, either. That thing can output almost as much power as Megatron’s own weapon, and the partial attachment into his neural network means he’s absurdly accurate with it. It’s also tied into his own body energy supply, which means as long as he’s alive, he has power for it.
Finally, he is a big, heavy mech, possibly as heavy, if not more, than Megatron. He may not have the polished bare-handed skills of his liege, but if he does manage to get a punch in, most any mech will be feeling that one for days.
Weaknesses: Surprisingly for someone so big, Shockwave is a scientist, not a fighter. Yes, he can use his bulk and strength to bully opponents, but against actual, trained combatants, he will always suffer for the encounter.
He is also a slave to logic as much as he is its master. When faced with incongruous situations, he will slow down in confusion until he can place some sort of logic to them. And when faced with the option to shoot someone full of holes because they’ve finally made him angry, or to listen to the logic that says he shouldn’t, he will do the latter almost unfailingly.
Last but not least, that gun of his can become a very dangerous draw on his energy. Yes, it’s powerful, and yes, he’s an exceptional marksmech, but it does draw on his energy, not a power cell. He can be forced to fire until his own power runs low, leaving him weak and possibly exposed.
Special skills (that are not weapon related): Shockwave is something of a crafter savant. To put to him a question without answer, or a problem without solution, is to invite him to hole up in his lab only to show up two days later with a brand-new device that answers the question or solves the problem. He does not like it when science is balked. He can also do the McGyver thing of picking up odd bits and pieces in a desperate situation, and put them together in some form of passable... solution.
Extra Info: There are rumors that have always made the rounds that Shockwave did something to his own emotional programming, making him unable to feel anything other than anger, leaving him the cold logical quasi-machine he currently his. He neither confirms nor denies these rumors, as that’s nobody’s business. But if he had, in theory, done such a thing, it would surely prove that logic is superior anyways, and all one needs in pursuit of science.
