Name: Foresight
Age (or human equivalent): Mid thirties
Gender (or human equivalent): Male
Species: Cybertronian
Faction: Decepticon
Original Occupation: Sociologist
Occupation/Specialization: Analyst
Appearance/Altmode: The top of his head reaches the tip of Starscream's crest. He has a fairly wide, but flat build. He has a single red eye with a socket that allows for 180 degrees of vision. His limbs are thick but it's still clear from a single glance he isn't specialised for combat. His alt mode is an E-2C Hawkeye. The Decepticon emblem is on both of his shoulder pads. His paint job is quite faded, but still visibly brown and grey.
Picture.
History: Foresight was born into the caste system, and was an adolescent at the time of the first Decepticon restlessness. As a sociologist named Sample, he worked in public education, studying the best conditions for learning. Once or twice he was commissioned by charities to look into the injustices of the caste system and this work opened his eyes to how badly change was needed. Firmly believing rebellion to be the only path to revolution, he joined the faction as soon as he could.
Despite not training as such, when the war broke out, Sample was placed as an a military analyst. His primary job was to compile information on the enemy and relay it to superiors so strategies could be formed, but he often did other work, such as examining potential battlegrounds to see if it was suitable for launching an attack. Likewise, he was usually back at base, but did sometimes join the fray as an aerial support lending advice to the troops.
Over the centuries, he became corrupted as the group did, agreeing to the increasingly extreme methods they were using, even changing his name so as to fit in with the aesthetic and intimidate the Autobots. This continued until the near-destruction of Cybertron, to which he came to his senses and became disillusioned with the Decepticons, and took a post on a distant ice planet, directing mining drones.
There he collected his thoughts and decided what to do next, settling on remaining with the faction. After all, he was still loyal to the ideaology, and a new world order was needed now more than ever. Plus, it wasn't like there was anywhere better to go. What he really disliked was Megatron and his more fanatical followers - it was them who took the group to such extremes. He kept this to himself, of course, and left his post to a subordinate, travelling through space in a ship until he found wherever there were the most familiar signals pinging, where most of the fighting seemed to be taking place: Earth.
Personality: Foresight acts as serious and composed as his job requires, but he doesn't enjoy this that much and wishes his superiors would loosen up a little. When working, he keeps quiet (it's easier to focus that way), but he's talkative and a bit of gossip. In fact, he loves asking questions - anything new to him is exciting and interesting. Naturally this curiosity means he is easily distracted.
Conversely, while he happily regurgitates old information, he finds it difficult to talk about himself, and toes the border of low self-esteem. He is pleased to let himself be ordered around, as he's not ambitious, and knows there are 'cons better than him out there. He's aware of his place. Thus he's rarely confident when it comes to making decisions, and he'd rather leave it to someone more capable. Processing information and considering all possible outcomes also means he's slow at it.
He's a firm idealist, believing the ends justify the means, and that that makes him the good guy. He habitually observes and records data about his surroundings and company, thinking it fun to informally analyse his comrades and predict their movements. He prefers to keep negativity and complaints to himself, believing them to be annoying, and he holds a good temper, but this doesn't mean he's particularly kind-hearted.
Likes: aliens - it's fascinating to think there are entire planets full of creatures with completely different cultures.
surprises and problem solving - it's good to take on a challenge, and something dropping entirely out of the blue is just what he looks for.
statistics - information is far easier to work with when condensed into numerical form.
the future - to him, the future is brand-new, changeable, and full of possibilities. It's something to look forward to, not fear.
Dislikes: routine - doing the same things over and over gets grating after a while.
isolation - as a social person, he can't bear the thought of complete separation from others.
inaction - as well as being pretty restless, he believes standing by while crimes happen is the same as committing them.
large bodies of water - like most Cybertronians, he would sink, and the thought of being trapped down there frightens him.
Strengths/Weapons:
Profiling - The longer his encounters with someone, the more information he'll have gathered, and so the more he'll be able to predict things like behaviour and tactics. This is a great offence working in tandem with someone stronger who lacks direction, and on his own, it gives him a fair advantage in defence. The data gathered can also be applied more practically, such as to calculate where a shot will land or when a grenade will go off.
Basic Combat Training - Two standard blasters (one on each arm) and a basic idea of how to use them. Probably would only just barely hold his own against most fire-armed 'Bots, though.
Explosives - For field missions, he carries two frag grenades and two smoke. Although he knows how to make them, and will do if there's no other option, he prefers professional explosives from shops, as they're higher quality and more reliable.
Cold-Resistant - As he took a post on a cold, harsh planet, he had himself modified to better withstand the conditions. There's a layer of insulation under his armour plates, keeping cold out and heat in. His heating system was also slightly upgraded, and he can now last for days in temperatures of -61°C before beginning to break down.
Weaknesses:
Unawares - 'Bots he's never seen in action are 'Bots he has little to no information on, which is a problem when your forté is knowledge-based prediction. In these situations he hesitates a lot and keeps on the defence.
Brains Not Brawns - As someone never really intended for the front lines, Foresight's training covered just the bare basics. He's easy to outmatch, in skill, strength, and equipment. It's not even his job to fight physically and directly. He finds no shame in turning tail and fleeing.
Processor - He's always thinking about something. Maybe he's planning out the best course of action, or considering every possible speech route, or even just daydreaming about the way light reflects off his frame. Distracting him for the few moments needed to get a hit in is not difficult. Thinking too hard about how the battle will play out means there will probably be pauses while he decides the best move to make.
Heat-Sensitive - The insulation under his plates can trap a lot of heat in. While this is an advantage on a cold planet, or someplace he could adjust the temperature of, it does mean he's prone to overheating more or faster than other 'Cons at the same temperature.
Special skills (that are not weapon related): Foresight has a variety of built-in measuring equipment such as thermometers, barometers and laser measures for on-the-fly data collection. There's also numerous calculators wired into him, to process information about opponents (and other variables such as weather) so he can predict the outcomes of situations.
He has more precise EM wave and field detection, and can read better into other Cybertronian's emotions. Prior training as a sociologist has given him a good insight into Transformer behaviour. He has a wider field of vision than most 'Cons. He has experience in using computers, but is especially adept at equipment for analysis.
Extra Info: At this point, Foresight open to the idea of switching sides or leaving. With Cybertron gone, the war has less meaning for him, both factions are fighting for similar things, and he doesn't like what the Decepticons have become. However, he doesn't know how to do this without getting killed (or worse) and thinks it might be more trouble than it's worth.
Sample RP:
Helping plan attacks against the enemy was fun and all, and it felt great to be of use to his political heroes, but few things were as satisfying to Foresight as people. Sociology, what he was built for, but not just that; their interactions with others, and how they acted when they thought they were alone, and they way they changed as they matured. How their experience affected everything they did and were, down to their reactions.
Thus his interest in the specimen before him wasn't entirely job-related. The Autobot was either careless, or new to this, to have been captured by the pair of scouts that bridged in, and Foresight felt only a twinge of regret looking over his scratch-free frame. He looked pretty young, and yet here he was, kliks from execution. Or being kept as a prisoner of war.
This wouldn't have happened if he'd chosen the superior side.
The first thing about this room was it was claustrophobic. With the berth in the centre and the scary-instrument-laden counter to one side, there was barely enough room for Foresight and the interrogator femme. Intentional, of course. This, and the dimmed lights, was for an atmosphere of closing in, of no escape, of the only option being to divulge information.
But the prisoner had done all that a little too fast, too eagerly, and there were more clues than that. His reactions were atypical. There was fear - loud, fast talking, looking away, ventilation running hard - and that was expected, but on top of it was a bizarre EM layer of confidence. About what? That he'd be rescued?
"He's lying." No, not just lying. It added up to more than that. "He meant to get captured. This was planned."
This was Foresight's first time identifying this particular tactic, so he wasn't entirely certain about it, but his prediction seemed accurate. An 89% likelihood of lying, in fact, with a 63% chance of intentional capture, his calculators told him after a few moments of processing. Those were good numbers, and so he looked back down at the Autobot with an amused smile.
It was fascinating how quickly the guy's confidence melted away. As if it was deleted, or like Foresight himself had just reached into the mech's processor and flicked off a switch. His thoughts wandered to what if he were the captured one, somewhere deep inside enemy territory, would he talk? The assessment he ran on himself said "unlikely".
