Name: Sunspot
Age (or human equivalent): Early twenties
Gender (or human equivalent): Mech
Species: Cybertronian
Faction: Decepticon
Original Occupation: Interceptor
Occupation/Specialization: Seeker
Appearance/Altmode: Sunspot is a small white and yellow jet-former with grey and maroon accents. He is quite lanky with slim waist, arms and thighs and is obviously lightly armoured. His head is a swept back segmented dome, dominated by large singular blue optic, with a pair of rearward pointing antennae. A pair of wings hangs gleefully from his shoulders, and moves to match his emotions. Sunspot’s chest is the front upper half of his alt-mode’s fuselage while his back is the rear upper half. His hands are simple two finger plus thumb affairs. Spot’s feet consist of three large toes with little actual foot, two toes forward and one rear. They allow him to perch on any rough or uneven surface. Sunspot displays a winged Decepticon Icon on the outer panel of both upperarms. His forearms have twin weapon ports. From a distance, his proportions make him look even smaller than he really is.
Sunspot makes extensive use of a holographic diary. This manifests as a holographic display over his optic – something like the equivalent of Google Glass.
Sunspot stands the same height as Knockout, but with much less chest bulk.
Sunspot transforms into a modified McDonnell Douglas XF-85 Goblin parasite fighter jet, sporting a white and yellow colour scheme with winged Decepticon iconography in dark purple/blue.
History: A long time prior to the war, Sunspot and two others were built, to specification derived from a slightly modified, relatively rare seeker protoform, for a crime syndicate. He in particular was built to be an interceptor and was one up until the beginning of the War. In his role, he primarily chased down any fleeing ‘enemies’ of the syndicate for who was his family. Mostly he chased people down, he caught them, and brought them – with help – to where they were supposed to be. At other times, he was a very willing gun, though resorting to violence was regarded as bad for business.
The syndicate profited from a wide variety of illegal and quasi legal activities such as drug trafficking, oil sports, blackmail, and weapons dealing. Of particular note to this syndicate was that the ‘Boss’ was a mnemosurgeon and making people forget what they had seen was literal. In places where information equated to power, the Boss was skilled at taking that power permanently. The syndicate’s main opposition came from the law and not other criminal organizations. Thus Sunspot developed a professional dislike like for the Law, whereas personal vendettas were nonexistent.
Sunspot more often than not thoroughly enjoyed his lot in life. While he never lacked for the pleasures a well looked after criminal might partake, he simply enjoyed chasing down prey, and if really lucky, shooting them to perforated kibble. His generally easy going nature made him likeable to his fellows, and his Boss never feared for ambitions that were never there.
All would not end well as the Law found a crack and exploited to their full extent. With the Syndicate under threat, the Boss did his best to serve those who had loyally served him. He mind wiped most of those who served him, cleaning out their memories, leaving them as fresh protoforms and with no evidence that could be used against them or himself. Sunspot was amongst the last to be wiped of their memories and unfortunately, the Boss was rushed and slightly damaged Sunspot’s processor.
Sunspot struggled to find employment after waking up in Altihex with no memory at all. Such personal troubles gradually melted away as civil war broke out. He was slow to definitively pick a side. He didn’t care much for the oppressive Autobot regime, but wasn’t certain that the Decepticons would have the weight to counter the long established order. The propaganda that passed Sunspot’s way was ignored, too much conflicted with other propaganda and on the whole, it just confused him.
With caution, Sunspot began to feel a fraction of kinship for Starscream and his seekers over the Aerialbots. The Seekers seemed to Sunspot’s estimation to have the greater numbers and were more like ruthless hunters. There was safety in numbers and personal safety was high on Sunspot’s agenda.
Sunspot also liked Megatron and his methods. He knew strength when he saw it and saw that this Megatron was powerful in build and character. There was respect for someone with might and the willingness to use it. Sunspot could not remember anything of his previous Boss but he knew he preferred to follow someone who did not waste energy on the weak.
Eventually, Sunspot made up his mind as to the better side to join, the Decepticons, and got himself indoctrinated and branded as one of the newest rank of seekers.
He didn’t have the intellect or base talent to excel within the ranks. If anything his cowardice was more noteworthy, but it let him survive where others might have been shot down. Where Sunspot did shine was following orders, commendable camaraderie, and quite simply getting into and out of combat with exceptional speed. In short, he was not a terrible soldier but neither was he excellent.
As the war progressed and forces on both sides dwindled, Sunspot was moved closer to central operations until he was one of the crew on board the Nemesis as it chased down the Arc.
Personality: Sunspot tends to be easy going and occasional trigger happy coward. He is naturally upbeat, optimistic and friendly. A simple creature, Sunspot is not particularly bright, to call him average would actually be a compliment. He simply lacks processor power and any hope for cunning. He is not stupid and is fully aware how small his mental capacity is. Sadly, poor Sunny is easy to trick and slow to catch on.
His favourite thing in the world is flying, and he will gleefully take any opportunity he can get to indulge. For him, it is a combination of freedom and exerting power of the elements. Sunspot also likes to exert his power when blowing stuff to scraps. Without a doubt, Sunny is the sort of ‘Con who enjoys exerting power for the things he can do with it. Like many he is power hungry, but only for personal physical power. This manifests as something of a competitive streak and a simple lust for destruction. While he is no bully and has no interest in authority over others, he is not above taking advantage of those he perceives as being weak. He enjoys the freedom to do what he wants and only follows the authority of those most able to enforce it.
Sunspot is very loyal and obedient to those above him, and mostly respectful of those of equal or lesser rank. As far as Ethics and Morals go, Sunspot is most definitely amoral, crossing into immoral with regularity. The life he values the most is his own. He does not care one byte about the greater good, or the needs of society. Might makes right is his point of view.
Despite his cowardly behaviour, he is rarely paranoid or negative. He takes life as it comes and is just very quick to acknowledge when he is confronted with superior skill, numbers, intellect or straight out power. It is his fear of Megatron’s wrath that keeps him in the firing line longer than he would otherwise wish.
Ever curious as the proverbial cat, Sunspot delights in new sights and sounds. Flying helps him indulge this too. For the most part, Sunspot simply likes to explore. He is careful though and stays far away from anything that looks like trouble or danger. Being the simple creature that he is however, Sunspot rarely strays from his base calling of interceptor.
Sunspot does suffer slightly from poor recall, the result of slight processor damage. This mostly displays as forgetting people’s names, or where he left his ‘whatever-it-was-he-was-supposed-to-deliver’. He has gotten past this by extensive use of a holographic diary. Sunny is somewhat embarrassed by this and tries to hide it, despite everyone knowing it for what it is. It is not bad enough to hinder his performance, but it looks bad when Sunspot has to use a H.U.D to remember his team mate’s names – he does fine with his superiors names due to both their fame and association. He does not have a visor to hide behind like some.
Likes: Flying, eating junk food, sweet drinks, cartoons, instrumental music, sleeping, shooting stuff.
Dislikes: Tight spaces, non-tasty food and drinks, anything complicated, being shot at, birds and bats and insects – small flying organic creatures.
Weapons: In both modes, Sunspot wields two pairs of auto-cannons. He is not terribly accurate but he is better than the average trooper. In terms of power output, each auto-cannon is about the equal of a Vehicon trooper’s blaster.
Sunspot can also transform sections of his wings into hand-axes for melee combat, he’s fast and stronger than his small size suggests but his skill is only just above average. If he loses these axes or they are damaged too much, Sunspot is unable to fly. This drawback is more than balanced out by the fact he can use guns and axes simultaneously.
Strengths: Sunspot’s primary strength lays in his extremely high quality energy systems. This power affords him a maximum airspeed at sea level of mach 1.5 for short bursts. The higher he goes, the faster he can fly for longer periods. As Sunspot is prone to overheating, he does better at higher altitudes where it is colder. He has very good flying range when not otherwise exerting himself.
As a seeker, Sunspot is afforded high quality construction. He is strong for his size and build, but very lightly armoured. He is extremely quick, in reflex and action, and very agile. He possesses sharp radio reception. Only his wings provide any level or armour as they contain no critical systems. In combat, they guard his back.
Weaknesses: Sunspot is prone to overheating. His energy system was originally designed for larger mechs with greater heat sink capacity, that being said, Sunspot is small and cools down quickly too.
Sunspot is very lightly armoured, like many a flier. His very thin skin is designed for total lack of restriction and will only shrug off the lightest blows.
Sunny has little skill for any civilian role, he will always be a soldier, or a gangster, or something combat heavy and thinking light.
Because Sunspot tends to the dim end of the spectrum, he mostly acts and reacts without thinking, thus he is not one for creative or surprising tactics. For a skilled opponent, Sunspot is extremely easy to read and lead.
He can’t land or takeoff in his alt mode, but this does not hinder him.
Special skills: Sunspot has only one non-combat skill of note and that is his ability to transform while on the move. He can very easily transform to jet mid run and to Mech mid flight. He uses this to shoot behind himself if attacked while flying, freefalling in robot mode with guns blazing.
