-Character Info-
Name: Eleanor Collins
Age: 25
Gender: Female
Species: Human
Faction: Humans
Original Occupation: Army; Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic
Occupation/Specialization: Army; Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic
Appearance: Nell isn't the tallest of women standing at five feet and three inches tall. She is built rather athletically with wide shoulders and toned muscles that are on the bulkier side though this does not diminish the fact she does have curves. Her jawline is strong and she has full cheekbones with a nose that has a slight hook. Her nose is offset by her fuller lips and almond shaped blue eyes. Her dark brown, almost black, wavy hair is kept short and is rarely longer than her shoulders.
She could be considered pretty if she put a little more thought into her appearance. Her extent of 'styling' is to simply brush her hair, and to keep it from looking like she had just rolled out of bed. More often than not, she simply pulls it back into a pony tail. Makeup is a foreign thing to her and the few (very rare) times Nell does wear it, it's minimal at best consisting of mascara, blush, and lipstick. When it comes to clothing choices, it's likely she will be in fatigues or boots. When she is not, she typically wears jeans and band t-shirts – low fuss is generally the name of the game when it comes to Nell.
Stress, is something easily visible with her posture and on her face. She has a slouched appearance at times, especially when the day is coming to an end and she's working on paper work. When it comes to her face, even though she is only twenty-five, she looks a handful of years older. She already has laugh lines framing her mouth, the beginnings of crows feet, and the bags under her blue eyes are a constant thing. Nell also tends to move in a more rigid, as if to help diminish the curves she has.
Another thing to note is that Nell has two tattoos. One is a Celtic bear paw, she had it inked when she was eighteen as a way to celebrate her Irish and Russian heritage. It circles around her left shoulder and is about five inches wide. The other, is a sword with wings and is on her back with the wings spanning across her shoulder blades and the sword itself going down her spine. This is her largest tattoo and the wings are about nine inches across while the blade is about six inches long.
History: Eleanor was born the second child to Adrian and Elizabeth Collins at a clinic on the outskirts of Savannah, Georgia on a blistering hot summer day. Her parents were young and had no financial help, it also meant that things were tight from the get go. Despite this, her life was very 'normal' in the beginning with plenty of love.
This being, until she was almost four years old and an unexpected knock came on the door. At the time, Nell didn't understand why there was a cop at their tiny apartment and why her father was crying. She still remembers how her father looked with a grief stricken face and how he held her and her brother close for what felt like forever. She also remembers the funeral and how the hard times really were just starting.
The funeral, despite being the cheapest they could afford, was a financial disaster to the family. There was also the fact that childcare became an issue, as before her parents worked opposite shifts so that there would always be someone home for the kids. Without her mother, it meant paying people became an option. Eventually they had to move into a studio apartment with a fold out couch for their bed.
After four years of this, things slowly started to look up. Though they still lived in the slummiest of neighborhoods, they were able to move into a bigger apartment. It was small with two bedrooms that could barely be called 'bedrooms'. Her father still slept on the couch, as he wanted his children to have their own rooms. This pattern kept on for several more years and when Nell was thirteen, they moved into another apartment in a slightly better part of town.
Nell eventually was able to start working at a fast food place, and money was becoming less of a struggle with three people working in the family. They eventually moved into a decent neighborhood that was generally safer than the slums they had previously called home. This meant a change in school districts for both Nell and her brother, but it was for the best. The high school offered more vocational studies and Nell started getting into mechanics like her father. Her brother was also able to secure a full ride scholarship at a local university.
With Nell being the only one of his children left at home, her father became even more invested in teaching her how to fix a car. It lead to him buying a barely running 1969 Chevy Camaro for his daughter. Nell didn't know it was her's at first. She had thought her father had went crazy and was going through a midlife crisis or was fixing it up for an under the table paycut. By the time she graduated high school, the diamond in the rough of a car was fixed up and Nell was given the keys.
Getting the keys to the car was exciting but, Nell had other plans in mind. She was not as smart as her brother who got a scholarship, and with money tight? Nell was considering joining the military. She was always a tomboy and she always liked the idea of working with other people for the same cause. It was an idea that her father quickly spoken against and during the fight that ensued, Nell found out exactly how her mother had died. The woman had been shot during a mugging, and her father did not like the idea of her being killed in a similar manner to his wife – even if the circumstances were different.
Despite not having her father's blessing, Nell still went with her plans on having a military career and she found an opening for a wheeled mechanic – which was fitting for a girl who grown up at an autoshop. It wasn't until after basic training, that her father caved to her dream. The man did have a couple of conditions for her, and that was to not get shot and to come home in one piece. It was easy enough for her to fulfill, especially when at first she was stationed at various bases stateside. Getting along with her fellow soldiers was also something that came easy to the Collins girl. Showing others that she had a knack for repairing the various vehicles left in her hands, was something that was appreciated.
After a couple of years stationed in the US, she received her first (and only) overseas orders. To put it simply, Iraq was a different animal compared to what she had gotten used to. There were times she felt like she wasn't going to hold her end of the bargain with her father, but the spitfire managed to roll with the punches. She was fortunate enough that while she had been shot at while making repairs, she never actually been shot. Some even considered her a lucky charm for how quickly she could get vehicles repaired during tight situations and that helped build several friendships.
While overseas, she was promoted to an E4 specialist and she continued to make a little name for herself when it came to her repairs. When the year was up, she was stationed back stateside and had been there ever since though she wishes she was able to go overseas one more time. With one year left on her contract, Nell was stationed in Jasper, Nevada. It is a boring place in her opinion, but at least she can continue to uphold the bargain with her father. For now at least, as she is certainly considering re-enlisting once her contract is up.
Personality: Nell has always been known as a spitfire with a foul mouth and an even shorter temper. She's a tomboy who barely knows how to act like a girl and will sooner tell a person to go fuck themselves than put a dress on. This rough exterior, has been a part of her since childhood, mostly as a survival tactic from growing up in the slums and being friends with mostly boys. She still feels she needs this rougher part of her personality more so than the 'softer' aspects, simply because she feels the need to prove herself to her fellow soldiers.
When it comes to physical or mental pain, Nell typically brushes it off. She's not one to dwell on things too often, and is most likely to just move on in order to get into more important things. Though this line of thought is hard to maintain when someone close to her dies, she feels the sadness like any other person does just finds it easier to move on than others do. This is another self-preservation thing she does as having grown up in a rough neighborhood, people consistently end up being shot for one reason or the other.
With life being so short, she finds that she has no time for bullshit or stupidity. Just like moving on from any sorts of pain, she likes to get through the crap and move onto more important things in life. Like family. She's close to them, worries about her father who lives alone and even her brother who throws his heart into everything. It leads to a Collins family dinner once a week, or at least a phone call if she's stationed outside of Georgia, and spending time together like old times.
While normally Nell does not let things effect her, her mother's death did have a profound impact on her. The spitfire currently does not want anything to do with children. It isn't so much that she hates kids, she just doesn't know what to do around them or how to act in a motherly fashion. This outlook is due to having no prominent female role model and she just never bothered to learn. She simply feels awkward and at a lost around them, especially because she has always been a rough person – young kids need a gentleness that she lacks.
Not knowing how to deal with certain emotions is also something Nell never really learned to cope with. She has anger issues, it's what leaves her punching the crap out of some dummy or unloading her pistols at the firing range. This has slowly gotten better, even if in tiny amounts as she is a good soldier and doesn't want to step into the forbidden zone because of some enemy pisses her off. Love is another emotion she has trouble dealing with, simply because she felt odd talking to her dad about it. Her brother wasn't much help, he only knew how it was for guys coming onto other guys and not from the female prospective that she needed.
Despite her obvious issues, Nell is a dedicated and overall good soldier. She does what she can to stay that way and follow things by the book, even if she likes to jump head first into a situation without thinking of the full ramifications of 'what ifs'. She just knows that the bad guy is getting away, and that she has to do something to stop that from happening.
Likes: Far too many vices, like alcohol (in particular good whiskey), cigarettes, and the occasional poker game. Nell also has a fondness for sports, like football and hockey, though that particular fondness is more in playing than watching. She also likes cars, especially classics like her Chevy, and she does like to do the repairs herself.
Dislikes: Anything overtly feminine. This includes makeup and high heels, because she barely knows how to put on the former and can't really walk or function in the latter. She also hates being underestimated and being the butt of sexist jokes, simply because she can deck a lot of men who're both taller and outweigh her.
Strengths/Weapons: Nell is physically capable against plenty of other humans in hand to hand combat, this is primarily due to her training as a soldier and boxing in her spare time. Weapons include a SIG Sauer p228, M16A2 Rifle, and various army issued knives. Some of her mental strengths include how persistent (read bullheaded) she is– she doesn't give up just because the going gets tough. She's surprising empathetic when it comes to death, and she actually knows how to soften the blow when someone has lost their loved one – though it should be said this is really the only thing she can be empathetic towards. Loyalty is another strength of hers, though she is not loyal to a fault. Nell has the backs of her other brothers and sisters in arms, and she would certainly take a bullet for them if the need ever arises.
Weaknesses: Physically, Nell is only human and despite her her training – she can die just as easy as the next person. A Decepticon (and Autobot for that matter, though they wouldn't purposely do it) could easily step on her, and squish her like a bug. She is also weak against those that are better trained than her, and someone who is stronger would give her a run for the money too.
Nell certainly has some personality weaknesses that can really bite her in the ass too. She can be reckless, and while she checks blind spots when entering unknown areas – she'll go after a person without considering what they could do to her if they happen to overpower her. She is also notoriously impatient when it comes to getting things done as she wants to move on to the next broken thing on the list, she has been known to give other mechanics an earful if they're too slow for her liking. Her temper is short and while she has tried to lengthen that fuse, she simply gets easily angered by stupidity or negligence and this leads to her having to get the anger out somehow. At times, it causes her to come off as nothing more than a brute when she lets off a string of curses or punches a wall in frustration. Her honest nature, is something to be wary of as she doesn't bend the truth to spare feelings. It can come off as far more biting and rude than she means to be, so it's safe to say she is not the person to ask 'do these jeans make my butt look big?'.
Special skills: Nell has knowledge of various mechanic related tasks this includes both your average cars and trucks, and some knowledge of track related vehicles (IE Tanks). She can also speak fluent Russian and conversational Spanish.
Extra Info: She has a handful of habits, like playing with a lighter when she's bored and can't smoke or how she chews on toothpicks. She also has a habit of double checking doors and windows in order to make sure they're locked.
Sample RP:
It was decided hours ago that Jasper, Nevada had nothing going for it. It was boring here, and slower than other small towns she had been in. How that was possible? Nell had no goddamn idea and she was seriously hating being stationed at one of the bases nearby. She had full intentions once she got settled, to call her father and give him an earful about how she was very likely to die from down right boredom. The brunette already knew what he'd say, better to die from boredom than dyeing from blood loss.
She would call bullshit on that one.
Either way, it wasn't like there was much control on where she was assigned. The base she was stationed at, needed skilled mechanics and thus she was here, slowly dying from boredom despite being here for roughly two days.
At least she wasn't too far away from a bigger city so she could do a day trip, and there was always popping into California if she wanted a weekend trip. Which such things aren't all that fun when alone, seriously where was a bar when you need one? She felt like she was going to need to hit it sometime tonight to try and wipe her memory of the boring surroundings.
She would need it even more when her car decided to start smoking a good ten miles outside of the town limits. “Jesus Christ.” The brunette muttered under her breath. “Why did you have to break down now of all times, old girl?” She was just thankful that she was able to get the car onto the side of the road. As much as she loved the classic, it wasn't light and pushing it was a downright bitch.
Getting out, she looked up at the clear, cloudless sky and she let out a grumble before walking around the front of her car to pop the hood. She was greeted by a bunch of smoke, and she waved her hand to disperse it. Great, just great. Overheating was one of the most common issues with being in such a hot environment, she was kicking herself for knowing this and being so wrapped up in how dull it was out here. She was also kicking herself that she had nothing that could cool the engine down too
Sighing, she pulled out her phone and her bad mood only worsened. Dead. Like her car was currently dead, and like what she would be dead if she had been even further away from town. Pinching the bridge of her nose, Nell walked around to the drivers side door and reached into the door to get her cigarettes and lighter. A smoke was something she really needed at this point in time, and when she found her lighter empty? Her mood was certainly soured.
It would only get worse when she looked up to hear a car coming, and whoever was driving didn't bother to pull over to help. “SO MUCH FOR SMALL TOWN HOSPITALITY!” The woman shouted as the car sped down the road towards town. “Goddamn jackass.” It was looking like she was going to have to walk those ten miles towards town...
