History:
Knock Out emerged from the Well of Allsparks, and was swiftly put to work in a body shop doing minor dent and paint repair on Cybertronians. Appointed this task from the Caste system, it seemed to be a good fit for Knock Out, and he quickly became well acquainted with the art. So much so that soon he was able to take on more exclusive clients. It was easy work, boring almost – so he would begin to offer more services to keep himself busy; custom painting, engraving, and modifications.
The downtime between clients and the time spent waiting for paint and finishes to dry gave Knock Out plenty of time to make small talk, developing his charm and wit in an effort to garner more tips. Towerlings paid well, and it was because of this that Knock Out became used to a certain lifestyle, even becoming somewhat of a snob himself to better relate to the better-paying customers.
He quickly made a name for himself in this field and had the salary and attitude to match. In his free time, he would begin to experiment with weapon designing and engineering – hoping to one day offer these as features at the body shop, even if some of his designs were questionable and somewhat illegal. He found this hobby to be fun and rewarding, even if at first the weapons he designed weren't of much use to anyone. He was creative and his methods were experimental at best but despite this? He managed to find interest from some of the patrons he served and sold a couple of prototype weapons.
Life was good for Knock Out – Until there was talk of a war brewing. An uprising against the Caste system. Cybertronians turning on each other and picking sides – Autobots and Decepticons. Knock Out, used to this lifestyle he'd come to enjoy, chose to side with the faction he thought had the best chances at winning – The Decepticons.
There was one little catch to Knock Out's loyalty, he didn't want to get involved with any fighting. Being on the front lines was beneath him, and the very thought terrified him. As such? He would continue to design weapons – knowing that in the early days of the war it would be a useful skill to have; in that, it would keep him busy and away from fighting like a brute. Luckily for him, some of the clients he'd sold weapons to also sided with the Decepticons, and were quick to throw his name out there as someone that could be relied upon. The Decepticons needed weapons, and good weapon designers were few and far between. Not that Knock Out was good, but desperate times called for desperate measures!
His smooth, charming personality meant he could upsell even the most useless pieces of slag to the Cons, even if sometimes the weapons weren't exactly as advertised. He made more than enough to get by, and had earned himself somewhat of a reputation and quickly made a name for himself.
One of the better weapons he made was an Energon prod. He decided to keep this one for himself, given that some of his clients weren't exactly thrilled with his work, and this meant he could at least defend himself should they try to get a refund using force, something he shied away from.
Word about Knock Out got around quickly, and once the war was fully underway he moved up the ranks fast, still relying on his charm to con his way up. Business was good, and this lifestyle suited him just fine; designing weapons meant he was useful and very much in demand. He earned his keep and managed to stay away from the front lines and any real fighting in the war.
The problem with war, however, is that there are casualties and lots of them. Too many of them. The Decepticons had medical personnel but they were swamped, more casualties were arriving daily and they were finding it hard to keep up. Suddenly the Decepticons found themselves needing medics and troops instead of fancy weapon designers.
The only issue with this was that Knock Out couldn't exactly charm and con his way through being a medic. If cons started dying left and right at his hands? He'd be thrown onto the front lines to be used as cannon fodder. Something he very much wanted to avoid. Still, he would certainly try! He scrambled to help as best he could if only to give the other medics some relief.
As luck would have it? Knock Out was actually a pretty decent medic. Good enough at least to quickly get a permanent position in the med bay. He wasn't sure how, but winging things seemed to actually work. He would earn his keep here, and was stationed in the med bay for the remainder of the war. He would even go so far as to equip himself with medical tools; a circular saw, drill, and welder.
Sadly all good things must come to an end, and sometime toward the end of the war – the planet of Cybertron was quickly becoming unstable and uninhabitable. Both the Decepticons and the Autobots were desperate, scrambling to gain whatever upper hand they could. Everyone from that point onwards became a target, from simple messengers to the medics. Which meant Knock Out.
The medics were dropping like flies, and those that remained were assigned bodyguards to help prevent them being picked off. Knock Out was assigned a brute of a bodyguard named Breakdown, who only served to get in his way at first. Everywhere Knock Out went? The big blue Mech followed, much to Knock Out's annoyance. Somehow, though, they made it work. The big guy didn't talk much, which was a plus.
He still got in the way, though. Some times were worse than others, but the worst was when Breakdown was assisting Knock Out in the medical bay and stepped on an important piece of equipment, ruining it beyond repair. What happened after this shocked Knock Out, however, as the much bigger Mech actually seemed scared of the Medics reaction, moving to hide behind a table out of view.
Finally realizing that his bodyguard was... Somewhat sensitive, Knock Out tried to be patient with him. He was calm, reserved, and didn't yell at the soldier for his mistake. From that moment onwards, the level and trust and loyalty grew between the pair, with Knock Out helping Breakdown through any... well... 'Breakdowns'.
The duo quickly became close and stuck together during their partnership during the rest of the war on Cybertron. It became too dangerous to use the communication channels – Autobot hackers had been known to hijack and ambush cons who used them – so the pair started developing a method of silent communication to converse when out on the field. It worked well, and they began to use it further back in the medbay; the brute proving himself to be a useful assistant – of course, not everything could be done in pure silence, so code words were developed that wouldn't make sense to anyone who happened to be listening in.
Their closeness and the mutual amount of trust in this system quickly proved beneficial. Knock Out responded to a distress signal from a fallen Decepticon, and fell right into an Autobot trap. He managed to distract the ambushers long enough to give Breakdown a signal, and he swiftly dispatched the ambushers who were attacking Knock Out.
The two would later develop this unusual tactic further into a more strategic way of fighting for themselves, it gave them an edge on the battlefield. Knock Out tagging and distracting enemies with his Energon Prod while Breakdown would finish them off with a powerful blow.
The pair were inseparable.
The planet grew darker and more unstable toward the end of the war, and word had gotten out from Decepticon infiltrators that the majority of Autobots, including Optimus Prime, had already left aboard the Ark due to the planet being completely uninhabitable. The Decepticons, having access to advanced technology and equipment, could see that the Ark was heading to a planet named Earth. What the Autobots hopefully hadn't worked out was that Earth contained untapped Energon deposits and lots of them.
The Decepticons wanted those Energon deposits for themselves, and being on an unfamiliar planet meant they needed all the advantage they could get. Energon meant they could rebuild and start anew on this new Planet - which meant sending teams to find and secure the deposits before the Autobots could even begin to work out what was happening.
Decepticon teams were paired together, and a few were randomly assigned to go to Earth ahead of the Nemesis. Knock Out and Breakdown were one such team.
The pair got separated from the rest of the Decepticons on their way to Earth. They took it in their stride, however. Due to the fact neither of them had flying alt-modes, getting back to the Nemesis would take a while. As such? They took their time, scouting for Energon as they made their slow trek back to the Decepticon ship. What better way to garner favor from Megatron than returning with their arms full of the precious fuel?
They were successful in a few small hauls of Energon – enough to make a good impression at least, and it was physical evidence as to why they hadn't been around. The pair were making good progress in getting back to the Nemesis - when Knock Out received a call from Starscream to return to the ship immediately. Their leader, Megatron was badly in need of repair. He went back, leaving Breakdown to continue to hunt for Energon; given it was an untapped resource and there was a lot of it. It was a long drive, but eventually Knock Out made it back to the ship, only to be chastised by Starscream for being slow. Strike one against Starscream.
Knock Outs medical skills would have to wait, however, as an Energon Harvester had been found by the Autobots, and of course, the Decepticons wanted it for themselves – it was an amazing weapon and much-needed tool, and would speed up the Decepticons cause. Knock Out and Breakdown went after the Harvester, only for Knock Out to run into Optimus Prime. Having Breakdown nearby gave him the confidence to take Optimus head on, using his Energon prod to harshly disable the Autobot leader while Breakdown followed through with another attack.
The distraction worked, and the harvester was taken by Soundwave. Knock Out and Breakdown fled, meeting up with Starscream later. Deciding that the distraction and the very reason they had the harvester was because of them, he and Breakdown took full credit for the fact they now were in possession of the item, claiming it was a gift. Starscream immediately turned the harvester on the pair, only to drain and kill a Vehicon behind them in the process – then going on to lose the item to Bulkhead of all bots. Strike two and three against Starscream.
The fact that Starscream pointed the harvester at Knock Out -twice- didn't bode well for him, and as such he shunned the Nemesis for a while, deciding to take some time off to do what he wanted; which was illegal street racing with humans for fun. He quickly learned that humans were vile, having gotten his paint scratched by a competitor – and Knock Out swiftly dispatched him off the road.
Having had his fun, he returned to the Nemesis once more; only to have an altercation with Starscream for running away and doing what he wanted. And so no sooner did Starscream leave the room? Knock Out left the Nemesis. Again. He was glad he did, as it didn't take him long to find a race this time. And as luck would have it? The Autobot, Bumblebee, was racing too. A rivalry was instantly formed, and the two raced. Knock Out of course played dirty, and in the process managed to capture a human, thinking it was Bumblebee's friend. What better way to garner favor and appeal (And forgiveness!) than capturing an ally to the Autobots?
Informing Breakdown of his plan, he led the Autobots into a trap. However they were quickly outnumbered and Knock Out fled with the human, only to be stopped by Optimus Prime, who tore off the door from his alt mode. He skulked back to the Nemesis with Breakdown, only to find himself punished for his actions.
Knock Out took the hint, and not wanting to get more cosmetic damage? Would stay on the Nemesis for the time being. Not that it did much; Megatron was still in his vegetative state, despite having brain activity. It didn't take long for Starscream, who had taken the position of Warlord in Megatron's absence, to start sweet-talking Knock Out into convincing Soundwave that Megatron was a lost cause – the promise of becoming second in command was tempting, and so Knock Out would follow through with this scheme.
Knock Outs days of conning people came in handy, and it didn't take long for him to shpiel off some medical talk to make Megatron's condition sound a lot worse than it actually was, and that doing the merciful thing was the right thing to do. Sadly they were not able to get far with this plan, as the ship had been infiltrated by Autobots. Arcee managing to knock the life support cable from Megatron as she made her escape from the Nemesis.
Deciding that they didn't want an Autobot to get the satisfaction of taking down Megatron, Knock Out would plug the support back in, and in turn, save his life.
Things went back to normal on the Nemesis. Megatron eventually came out of his vegetative state, the Decepticons were finding Energon supplies, and things were... Calm, at least for Knock Out!
..Until Breakdown was taken by MECH. His companion was taken, and Megatron refused to go find him. Even Starscream wanted to find him. Luckily for Breakdown, so did the Autobots – if only to protect Cybertronian from MECH. Bulkhead managed to free Breakdown, and he was quickly taken back to the Nemesis – he lost an eye in the process but Knock Out quickly patched him up.
Now somewhat overprotective of his partner, and with this new enemy out there, Knock Out would fight even harder for the Decepticon cause.
Personality: Ambitious, Articulate, Easy-Going, Flashy, Flirty, Impeccable, Manipulative, Narcissistic, Prissy, Sarcastic, Sassy, Self-Centered, Slick, Sly, Smart, Snobbish, Unhinged.
Knock Out knows an opportunity when he sees it, and has the drive and charm to make things happen. He looks amazing and he knows it, and has somewhat of an ego. That being said, he isn't above pandering and aftkissing to those in power for protection and favors should he feel that it benefits him. There are two sides to every person; and the other side to his snobby, flirty personality means that he's also manipulative, sly and ambitious. He uses wit and sass to get his way, often succeeding.
He takes great pride in his appearance, and is articulate, observant and clever. His ego and pride mean that he feels he is above most others, and he doesn't show much interest in them unless of course he wants something, or getting them to owe him something. To those above him? He is constantly looking for ways to impress.
Knock Out prefers working alone, not wanting to rely or depend on others; mostly due to a lack of trust of others. However he does trust one other Mech with his life, and that's his partner, Breakdown.
While he doesn't like to fight, he is fiery and is often quick to speak his mind – often with sass and sarcasm, which sometimes does get him into more trouble than he'd like. He tries to pick and choose his battles and win with words and wit, rather than brawn. Although if he knows he has backup, he momentarily loses this 'fear' of fighting, and at one point took on Optimus Prime himself in a tag-team effort with Breakdown.
He isn't a thrill-seeker, but gets a rush from racing and taking the occasional risk.
Likes: Looking good, Racing, Breakdown, Competition, Engineering, Power, Automobiles, Tap Dancing Monkeys, Horror Movies.
Dislikes: Getting his paint scuffed, Humans, Failure, Bumblebee, Losing.
Strengths/Weapons:
Go for the Spark!: Being that Knock Out is a medic, he knows exactly where to pinpoint his attacks should he find himself engaged in combat. From simple attacks that stun and maim, to full out killing blows if needed.
Say hello to my little friend: Knock Out has an array of tools at his disposal. A circular saw, drill, and welder all get very good usage, and he knows how to use them well. The tools are all kept sharp, and are built well – they're durable and strong enough to cut into Cybertronian armor with ease.
Zap, darling!: Should Knock Out find himself in combat, he is armed with an Energon prod. He uses this to his advantage, sneaking in to strike vulnerable areas of his foes, making them writhe in agony. It works on both Cybertronian and Human foes – as it has multiple strength settings. The Energon prod itself is very well made, it's sturdy, and can withstand and block attacks without breaking.
I'm here! Now over here! Get 'em!: Knock Out is built for speed in both his forms. Using his speed to his advantage, he'll often give a distracting painful blow, or zap to his foes, while Breakdown or another Decepticon follows through with a smackdown while the enemy is recovering from the initial attack.
Weaknesses:
..Mm, Drive: Knock Out is no coward, but he has no issue abandoning ship to save his own spark – especially if he finds himself outnumbered. There's nothing wrong with running away if you live to see another day!
Could you come over here?: Armed with only an Energon prod and his medical tools, long range combat is an issue for Knock Out. The issue? He simply can't. Unless of course there's a blaster laying around, and even then his inexperience with them would mean he's a terrible shot and would probably do more harm than good.
Be gentle!: Knock Out is built for speed, so he isn't heavily armored or suited to life on the front line, or even long-term combat. He isn't built to take a lot of damage, and a couple of well placed, or heavy blows would swiftly put him in his place.
Anything but the finish!: Knock Out looks good, and he knows it. He is vain with a capital 'V' – looking out for his paint job and appearance often comes first in fighting situations, he can't help it! So he is often fairly distracted, focusing on not scuffing his paint job than actually fighting properly.
You backstabbing slaghead!: Knock Out has four large and exposed vents on his back - if someone were to take advantage of these and get a direct hit into one or more, or throw something into one? It could really mess him up!
Me first: Knock Out has a love for racing and competition. This competitive streak and the fact he often thinks only of himself means that Knock Out sometimes puts his own pleasure before orders and things he should be doing instead.
Special skills:
Medic: Knock Out is a competent medic. Completely self-taught as a way of avoiding fighting in the war, he's a natural at it, and always looking to learn more. He's good with his hands, and can repair everything from the tiniest of dings, to doing complete surgeries. His methods aren't exactly... Ethical, but he gets the job done!
Weapon Designer: While most of his creations don't really work all that well, should he need to? Knock Out is good at making things out of scrap. He's inventive and creative!
I'm artistic, you know!: Due to the fact Knock Out takes great care in himself and his finish, he has quite a knack for making others look good, too. You want a new finish? Or a pretty accent? Knock Out is the Mech to go to!
It isn't a lemon! You're using it wrong!: Having conned his way up through the ranks as a weapons designer, Knock Out is a smooth talker, able to get himself out of most situations with sass and charm.
Silent Communication: Due to Breakdown's paranoia, and fears of having their communication channel hijacked by enemies? The pair developed a silent way of communication in the early days of the war. From the flashing of their lights and varying hand gestures and signals? They use this alternate method of communication both in combat and in the workplace – working in perfect harmony. He also knows Chirolinguistics - perfect for when a patient refuses to talk via normal means.
Fabulous: Damn Straight!
