Hot Rod didn't entirely believe what had been said, but who was he to argue? The kids knew who each other were, he was a newcomer and didn't know their personalities all the way yet. From what he could see, humans were a strangely bipolar bunch, who could flip and be mad at one another one moment then be hunky-dory the next. It was a confusing thing. At least Cybertronians had a reason to get angry at each other.
Sometimes. Hot Rod assumed their processors worked differently than human brains, but he was certainly no scientist so he didn't have a complete clue. Maybe Ratchet would have some information on that- if he were particularly interested in finding out. Which he wasn't. So.
"Huh?" His voice stammered a bit as he came out of his thoughts once he realized Miko was throwing a question his way instead of talking to Raf as she had been a moment ago. His avatar side-glanced to the kids, reflective of his reaction to what had been asked. The holoform looked forward again, shifted in the seat, and slouched slightly with an elbow propped on the base of the window while it 'drove' with one hand.
"I realized that Megatron was no different than the evil my city faced at the time. The difference was... that evil had been stopped and was gone. Megatron was a new threat that needed to be stopped before history could repeat itself. I couldn't bring myself to follow a tyrant that had tormented others the way Zeta did." There was a pause as Hot Rod thought back to that day- the one which had swayed him in the direction of the Autobots.
"The message he spewed was all cool and such... but the actions didn't reflect it. Peace through tyranny? Not really my style. Especially not what I'd gone through. Havin' to watch Megatron tear out the vocoder of that scout...." he trailed off, and Hot Rod's holoform gripped the steeling wheel tight enough for white to appear on its knuckles. "... That was enough for me. I made my choice. The enemy of my enemy, so the humans say."
