CHARACTER INFO
Name: Nathan Marcus "Diamondback" Walker
Age: 29
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Faction: NEST/Autobot
Original Occupation: U.S. Army Special Forces Soldier
Occupation/Specialization: NEST Special Forces Soldier assigned to Autobot Taskforce at Omega One.
Appearance:
Nathan Walker stands at 6’1”, weighs in at roughly 210 pounds with a muscular frame due to his occupation. He has green eyes and black hair which he keeps slightly longer than regulation and a few days growth of facial hair due to his Special Forces background. No jewelry besides a wrist watch on his left wrist, watch head on the inside of his left wrist. Tends to wear darker colors such as grays, blues and black, unless he’s out hunting; during which he wears clothing appropriate for the specific activity. In combat he wears tactical pants, boots, shirt, and MOLLE harness with a shemagh; jacket, camo, vest and hat type depending on the weather and situation but he typically prefers a boonie hat. (Civilian Attire) (Combat Attire Example)
Nathan has five tattoos on his body, the first being an eagle on his right forearm, a Death From Above design on his upper right arm, a battlefield cross on his left shoulder blade with the name Marcus A. Crane underneath, a wolf logo on his right shoulder blade, and a large Arizona Diamondback logo between the previous two tattoos. There is some light scarring on his left chest consistent with removal of a tattoo, as well as a scar across his left palm from when he cut it on a jagged rock during a hunting trip when he was younger and scars across his left leg from an RPG attack during a combat deployment.
Pertinent History:
Nathan is the son of James and Rachel Walker, and grew up in Arizona. His father was from New York City and his mother was from Arizona. The two had met in a New York City bar while James was doing his residency and his mother was going to college with the two getting married then moving back to where Rachel was from when they found out she was pregnant with Nathan. Growing up, Nathan spent a lot of time with his mother’s family, often staying the weekend with his maternal grandparents, Marcus and Linda Crane, whom he looked up to immensely. When he was old enough, Marcus would take Nathan up into the nearby Chiricahua Mountains on hunting, hiking, horseback riding or four wheeling trips, often accompanied by Nathan’s uncle, Daniel. James and Rachel were not a part of these trips, but they allowed Nathan to go as long as he kept his grades up which he did.
In school, Nathan was always well liked and developed a reputation as hard working and down to earth, despite attending a private academy due to his family’s wealth. He was determined to stand out and make his own way in the world, rather than coast on the tails of success. This dogged determination earned him the starting spot as a safety on his high school football team, and as starting second baseman on the baseball team. Upon graduating high school, he began attending college but quickly grew disenchanted with where his future seemed to be going. After two years of college and completing his general education, he decided to enlist in the military, inspired by both his grandfather and maternal uncle who had served.
Once he enlisted, Nathan showed that he was an exceptional soldier, able to follow orders and show initiative when needed. He’d always be the first one to volunteer for patrol or a sentry shift late at night, to the point where his squad mates made it a point to beat him to the punch when volunteering at times. Anything that did not come naturally to him, he made it a point to train and focus on that until he had developed mastery. After boot camp he volunteered for and successfully passed airborne training which landed him assignment as a paratrooper where he ended up serving an overseas combat deployment before passing the selection process to join Special Forces at the age of twenty-four. After five years in Special Forces where he saw further overseas combat deployments, Nathan was invited to join NEST as an operator which he accepted, eventually ending up being assigned to work directly with the Autobots at Omega Outpost.
Personality:
Nathan grew up influenced not just by his parents but also his grandparents. As such, he has a lot of his grandfather in him. He tries to never raise his voice, and to maintain a quiet strength which seemed to radiate off of Marcus Crane, something his parents note with both amusement and pride. He always tries to be polite and respectful, treating others as he would want to be treated.
He isn’t what one would describe as overtly social, but does make it a point to be on good terms with the people he works with and an exceptional team player. Once he warms up to someone he can be more relaxed around them and drops his guard. His best quality would most likely be his disciplined, calm demeanor under pressure, a result of his upbringing and his military training.
One problem that he gets from his dad is an inability to “suffer fools”. He can become brisque and irritated with individuals he sees as lacking any common sense or decency. He also has a high personal work ethic and massive attention to detail. He seems to compare himself and his achievements to his grandfather’s, and often believes that he is not doing his grandfather’s legacy well.
Likes:
Outdoors: Nathan grew up hiking and hunting in the Chiricahua Mountains, and as such he feels most at peace in the outdoors, be it either hunting or hiking.
Firearms: While Nathan’s parents had no interest in firearms, his grandfather taught him a lot about guns and marksmanship. Besides his military weapons which he keeps at base, he also owns a few personal ones for hunting or self defense.
Cooking: His maternal grandmother taught him a few things about cooking, and as he grew older he found out he really enjoyed the process of creating a meal himself.
Reading: With his mother being an English major and a published author, Nathan learned from a young age to respect the written word. Besides his mother’s works, he also enjoys historical works and fictional pieces. When he is able he likes to go outdoors with a snack and a book, and just reads.
Meat Jerky: Loves jerky made from most meats, especially beef and venison. Do not stand between him and his jerky.
Music: Growing up Nathan learned how to play the piano from the age of eight years old, and although he is not a concert level musician he is quite an excellent player. He also inherited his father’s love for smooth and classical jazz music.
Sports: Nathan played sports in high school, and still loves to play even after joining the military. His two main ones are baseball and football, though he loves a good game of pick up basketball like the ones he’d play on deployment in the base.
Dislikes:
Pointless Aggression: Nathan is at heart a pacifist, though he is willing to fight for peace. Any aggression that is unwarranted or is only to serve a minority as opposed to the whole group is disgusting to him and he would make it a point to stop it.
The High Society Lifestyle: Nathan grew up in relative luxury as part of the upper class due to his father’s career and his father’s parents. But instead of embracing that life he chose to gravitate more towards the middle class background of his mother’s side.
Cities: Nathan absolutely hates the big city with it’s masses of people moving about and the smog choking the air. He is more at home in the suburbs or the countryside.
Hot Heads: One thing that really upsets Nathan is when people cannot keep their tempers under control. He can understand an occasional outburst or two, but repeatedly raising their voice and loosing their cool on the regular are in his mind the sign of a weak individual.
Bullies: Growing up Nathan was taught that a bully was the worst kind of person, someone who took what power they had and used it for selfish ends.
Clowns: Don’t ask.
Internal Politics: Nuff said.
Strengths/Weapons:
Firearms: On combat duty Nathan is often equipped with a Glock 19 fitted with a threaded barrel, red dot sight, and a under barrel flashlight as his sidearm; and a custom Heckler & Koch HK416 assault rifle set in a recce configuration as his main weapon. Both weapons are always highly maintained and cared for, though the rifle is always stored on base when not in use. He does carry the handgun on his person usually at all times, generally in either in a drop leg holster or in a concealed small of the back holster depending on the scenario.
Grenades: On pre-planned combat missions Nathan carries two M67 fragmentation grenades along with two M18 Smoke Grenades. The smoke grenades are capable of shielding Nathan and friendly forces from view or used to signal, and a fragmentation grenade inside a crucial system can end up causing massive internal damage.
Recon: Nathan’s specialty on his Special Forces team was as the team’s reconnaissance/intelligence expert, being skilled in moving without being seen and gathering intelligence on the enemy without being noticed. He knows how to blend into the background of most given situations and yet be in a position to gather the most information possible, and how to get away without giving any indication that he was around as well as analyze any information that he has before him and glean useful intelligence from it.
Operator: Nathan is a Special Forces soldier, and as such he is trained in a very unusual set of skills compared to regular soldiers. He has training in Military Free-fall, Fast Roping, Ariel-Platform Support, Mobility, First Aid, Sniping and Explosive Breaching. Though he is by no means an expert in these, he is able to fill in when needed.
Knives: On pre planned combat missions Nathan usually carries a Leatherman multi-tool on his belt, a Gerber LHR on his shoulder strap or on his chest rig, and a Gerber Tactical Downrange Tomahawk on his right shoulder or left hip. Off duty he always has his Leatherman on him.
Unarmed Combat: Due to his background, Nathan has received hand to hand combat instruction from the United States military, and is a capable hand to hand combatant.
Weaknesses:
Only Human: Nathan is merely human, meaning he is vulnerable to being squashed or shot.
Shooter, Not Hacker: Nathan is a soldier, not a tech person. While he is able to work his phone and some surveillance equipment, he has limited technical expertise in the use of computers, as well as no aircraft or heavy ground vehicles training.
Claustrophobic: Nathan has never enjoyed being in tight spaces. It’s not as bad of an issue these days since he’s been in the military but it could flare up again if he’s exposed to certain circumstances.
Can’t Take the Cold: Nathan grew up in Arizona, and as such is more comfortable in warmer climates. While he can work in colder environments, he cannot last as long unless he has the right equipment.
Special Skills:
Physical Fitness: Nathan is physically fit and stays that way by maintaining a disciplined exercise schedule, even when he was deployed.
Multi-lingual: In college and growing up Nathan developed a decent understanding of Spanish, and while in the military he learned a passable amount of Arabic, Farsi and Russian.
Fieldcraft: Nathan is a skilled outdoorsman, thanks to both his pre military and special forces experience. He knows what plants to eat, how to use terrain, track and make his own camouflage.
Anti-Cybertronian Tactics: Being brought into NEST, Nathan has received training in human vs cybertronian tactics, knowing where to shoot on Cybertronian bodies in order to cripple them.
Origami: While on a deployment Nathan picked up a book on the art of Origami, and while in the base would practice the art as he found it was a way for him to relax and destress from a problematic encounter.
