As she made her way through the halls from the Rec Room to the Control Room, Petrichor found herself already in a better mood. There was a bounce to her step and a slight smile to her face. Even if Nathan and her request to leave was denied, she had someone new to talk to and new things to talk about! It wouldn’t help her physical restlessness, but it would at least give her something else to focus on for a time until one of them was called away. Considering the fact that Optimus had not replied to her ping yet, Petra figured their chances were pretty low but she’d seek out Prowl or Red Alert to ask regardless.
Who knows? Maybe one of them will be in an understanding mood and take pity on us… Yeah, no. I can hear it now: ‘You want to go outside – because you’re bored? No. Look what happened the last time someone went for a drive.’
Actually, Petra wasn’t entirely sure what happened when Ratchet left base and subsequently went missing. She knew a rogue human organization called MECH had taken him and it had taken long hours and lots of frustration and stress for the others to find him. Everything had been kept rather quiet about Ratchet’s condition upon his return, so Petra was under the assumption that he had been in pretty rough shape and was being allowed to recover and recuperate in private. She hadn’t actually met Ratchet yet, but she hoped he was doing ok.
Upon entering the control room, Petrichor’s steps faltered. Optimus Prime was standing right there. And by the Allspark, he was a heck of a lot bigger than she had imagined – and when standing together in the same room. She had to make sure her mouth wasn’t hanging open before she resumed walking forward until she was standing a respectable distance away from him.
“I assume it’s urgent.”
He looked and sounded tense. Oh no. Had she disturbed him? Her eyes glanced to the screens behind him that still had data scrolling past. He was probably in the middle of something important, seeing as how he hadn’t responded to her original ping and how he was addressing her now…it honestly wasn’t all that different from Prowl in its clipped formality, but this…it felt wrong. It felt like someone had died. Or maybe he just didn't like her.
Why did I think this was a good idea? His friend is still recovering, for Primus’ sake! Of course he’s going to be upset still! You’re the worst, Petra. So insensitive. Can’t go back now either; gotta say something.
She nervously brought her eyes back to Optimus and visibly reset her vocals before speaking up.
“No, sir. I didn’t mean to disturb you if you’re busy. I can go find Prowl or...someone...else.”
Stars above that gaze was intense. She could practically feel the weight of his focus crushing her.
