CHARACTER INFO
Name: Sunstreaker
Age: Late 20’s
Gender: Femme
Species: Cybertronian
Faction: Autobot
Original Occupation: Law Enforcement - Special Response Team Officer
Occupation/Specialization: Rapid Assault Specialist
Appearance: Sunstreaker clocks in at roughly eye-level with Wheeljack and Bumblebee, placing her on the smaller end of the spectrum. Her helm, chest, forearms, waist, and lower legs are all coated in a bright, sunny shade of yellow, owing to her namesake of course. The rest of her frame is coated a dark gray, including her pedes, legs, knees, abdomen, servos, neck and shoulders.
Two large fins jut out from the sides of her head, each sporting three light blue emissive lights each, stacked on top of one another. Her face is characterized by a soft shade of gray, icy blue optics, and lips that match the rest of her yellow plating. One large gray fin sits in the middle of her helm, starting between her eyes before it flows up and over the back of her head.
A pair of door wings sit on Sunstreaker’s back, typical for grounders with frames similar to hers. Her two front wheels sit on her shoulders in root mode, with her rear wheels sitting within her lower legs. Overall, Sunstreaker is equipped with higher-grade light armor that just barely straddles the line separating it from a medium qualification.
Altmode: On Earth, Sunstreaker assumes the form of a yellow Lamborghini Aventador, with her Autobot symbol replacing the Lamborghini logo on her front hood.
Pertinent History:
Sunstreaker was cold constructed as Functionalism was still in full swing, being slotted into the Enforcer caste in Kalis. She quickly distinguished herself as a stand-out cadet, outperforming her peers in advanced driving and firearms classes. Sunstreaker would go on to graduate at the top of her class with distinction, going on to serve in Kalis’s riot pacification unit, and eventually began active duty as a member of Iacon’s Special Response Team following a transfer. Though her performance was exemplary, Sunstreaker often failed to embody the ideal law enforcement officer. She was infamous for playing hard and fast with the rules, and her consistent excellent performance was all that kept her from a desk job for the rest of her life.
As Cybertronian society began to decline, so did Sunstreaker’s morals. While she was still squeaky-clean enough to turn her nose up at bribes, she began to frequently participate in illegal street races, and was a dedicated patron of the gladiator pits of Kaon, in addition to being no stranger to gambling. For a brief period of time, she was even enamored with an up and coming gladiator named ‘Megatronus’ after witnessing one of his more spectacular bouts.
The increasing political violence of her homeworld was of little concern to Sunstreaker, having never been interested in the machinations of the senate or Functionalism before. In her eyes, more violence just meant more overtime for her. Unfortunately, Sunstreaker wouldn’t receive that sweet, sweet overtime. The Iacon SRT was quickly gobbled up by the Autobots once Megatron began his war, and Sunstreaker became a frontline combat unit.
By the end of the war, Sunstreaker had been acting as a squad leader for some time, specializing in conducting guerilla warfare far behind enemy lines. During an operation in Helex, she disobeyed orders in order to launch a surprise attack on a Decepticon fuel depot, one that was apparently under-defended according to intel. This would prove to be Sunstreaker’s greatest mistake, as the Decepticons were waiting for them just as her team set the first charge. They ultimately managed to fight their way to an extraction point, albeit with heavy casualties and three fatalities.
These actions earned Sunstreaker a demotion and a legendary dressing down by Autobot command, which sent her back to the front lines as just another grunt. For once, and perhaps the first time, Sunstreaker was horrified by the consequences of her actions. She never once protested during her demotion, never tried to justify her actions, and never argued against her reassignment.
Evidently, something had broken inside Sunstreaker. For the remainder of the war she was quiet, followed all orders (even in the absence of a superior officer), and was by all accounts a model soldier. She fought dutifully up until the Exodus, though she was unable to join the crew of the Ark as they launched. In the chaos that followed, Sunstreaker managed to avoid the worst of the fighting, and she would manage to eke out a living in the wastelands in years to come.
In time, Sunstreaker recovered emotionally from her earlier losses, though she was still stuck on a dead world. With no way to leave Cybertron of her own volition, she was dependent on pure luck and circumstance to escape. Thankfully, circumstances would eventually come knocking. An automated salvage transport, owned by the Vestial Imperium, would land on Cybertron for a time in order to salvage sentio metallico from the wastes.
Sunstreaker managed to hitch a ride on the transport as it departed Cybertron with its haul, though she wasn’t able to alter its destination, effectively trapping her on the ship. Thankfully, Vestial transports typically operated on runs that could go for decades, which gave Sunstreaker ample time to work out how to operate the vessel. Instead of changing the destination, she learned that she could manually alter the path the ship took to Vestum Major, giving her a small measure of control over where she traveled to.
It was still impossible to get the salvage transport to come to a halt, however. Even with a breakthrough, Sunstreaker was still on the slow boat to the Imperium. When Optimus broadcast a message for all remaining Autobots to join him on Earth, Sunstreaker finally had a destination in mind. She rerouted the transport through the Sol system at its slowest speed, intending to use it to get to Earth via an orbital bounce. Narrowly missing Earth’s horizon, Sunstreaker was beamed down to the planet surface, albeit massively off-target from where she intended to land. Her trusty steed, the salvage transport, then sailed off into the big unknown, resuming its journey.
Personality: Sunstreaker is the prototypical hot shot, loud mouth, death-defying Autobot. Armed with a gold-encrusted superiority complex, she was also the exact opposite of a humble soldier, making sure anyone and everyone knew that she was the absolute best. She would’ve likely stayed on this narcissistic, self-destructive path for eons, if she hadn’t been forced to change her ways before the great Exodus. Struck with a healthy dose of reality and clarity for once, Sunstreaker realized the folly of her ways after her actions as a squad leader ended up killing several of her squadmates, and injuring her sibling.
Though it has taken several years and a monumental amount of effort on her part, she has finally begun to steer the ship away from her previous course. Modern Sunstreaker is far more introspective about her actions than her previous self, and is open to criticism. While she’ll never be a truly humble Bot, she’s certainly much less obnoxious about it now, though such a comparison is still highly relative.
Forcing herself to be humble and open tends to build up steam however, and there are moments where Sunstreaker just needs to cut loose and be her old self to relieve some of the tension. It’s a precarious dance of self-control, maintained only by the fact that Sunstreaker truly wants to become a better person at heart.
For all of her faults and shortcomings, Sunstreaker has had a long time to reflect on them. Luckily, she’s come to terms with her more negative personality traits, and has set herself on the path of positive growth. It only took a lot of death and wasted time. That also isn’t to say that she’ll relapse from time to time, but she’s healthy enough to feel ashamed of it for once.
To Sunstreaker’s credit, she’s well aware of the fact that you can’t be good at something just because you say so. She’s more than happy to put in the time to improve herself if motivated enough, and she’ll stick with practicing a skill until she’s satisfied with the results. Though, sometimes she’s never satisfied.
Likes: Competition. Swearing. Loud music. Racing. Explosions. Fighting. Praise. New guns. Displays of skill.
Dislikes: Catchphrases. Consequences. Seekers. Having to be polite. Being told to stay put. Sneaking around. Failing. Displaying affection in public.
Strengths/Weapons:
Second to None - The most dangerous component of Sunstreaker’s superiority complex is that it is unfortunately self-sustaining. Though small and less heavily armored than other frontliners, Sunstreaker is amazingly capable on the battlefield. Running and fighting simply come naturally to her, and she feels most at home in the thick of combat, be it at the front, from a distance, or up close and personal. Her prowess in combat is largely what’s kept her in the Autobots for so long, as her ‘winning’ attitude and resting demeanor provide an excellent counterpoint to her skills.
Sunhammers - Sunstreaker’s name for her integrated blaster rifles (though she doesn’t make this information public). Both weapons are powerful and customized, being able to punch through medium armor at a modest rate of fire. Both weapons fire golden bolts, and are equipped with laser sights and underslung grenade launchers. Sunstreaker carries six high-pressure explosive shells on her at most times, and the yield of each shell is capable of damaging up to heavy-grade armor. While her blasters are decent at medium range, Sunstreaker’s grenades can only be launched so far (having a maximum effective range of 100 meters, and a blast radius of 10 meters), though they can be set to go off on a timer, or on impact. Both Sunhammers generate a fair amount of heat, and using them both at the same time requires a brief cooling period. Because of this, Sunstreaker opts to fire using one arm at a time, using her free hand to stabilize the other.
Suncutters - As part of her service as a Special Response Team officer, Sunstreaker has been thoroughly trained in hand-to-hand combat, and is equipped with a pair of hard-light energy casters mounted just above the backs of her hands. Each caster is able to project a short, yellow energy blade (dubbed a Suncutter), which Sunstreaker uses for more lethal, intimate encounters. Both weapons’ current configuration is hard coded into their projectors, meaning that Sunstreaker cannot edit their shape. Each blade is about 75% the length of her forearm and requires energy from her spark to use, relegating them for quick, lethal attacks instead of drawn out blade to blade fights. Each blade can cut through medium armor, though cutting through heavier armor tends to short them out. After shorting out, both projectors require a brief period to reboot before switching back on.
Bouncy - Quick on her pedes and built for athletics, Sunstreaker leverages her mobility to compensate for her lack of durability when fighting larger opponents, which is almost always. With how aggressively she fights, dodging and weaving during battle are absolutely necessary, not to mention how fun she has while doing it.
Weaknesses:
Restless - Sunstreaker has spent what feels like a lifetime doing what she loves, driving and fighting. She’s become somewhat accustomed to it by now, and doesn’t quite know what to do with herself whenever moments of peace roll around. What is a Sunstreaker to do when there are no more fights and races? Easy, find more fights and races.
What Limit? - Speed limits don’t mean much to Sunstreaker, not on Earth or Cybertron. As her previous job didn’t require her to follow them (plus the fact that she raced illegally), she’s not used to having to listen to road signs on Earth. Needless to say, this makes it very difficult to blend in with traffic.
Easily Goaded - For anyone that knows Sunstreaker, she’s fairly predictable. Insult her skills, and you know just what you’ll get. It doesn’t even need to be something all that significant. You could tell her she walks too fast, and that’d be enough to draw her ire.
Recovering Narcissist - Though it’s been some time since Cybertron, Sunstreaker’s narcissistic streak isn’t as far behind her as she’d like it to be. She’ll always be better than you, in her mind, though she’ll do her utmost to shield you from this fact. However, there are simply some people so far beneath her, some one-liners so cutting, that she absolutely, positively, has to let people know.
Vindictive - The axe may forget, but the tree remembers. Sunstreaker has remembered most of the slights people have leveled on her over the years, and is petty enough that she won’t be forgetting them anytime soon. She’s self-conscious enough not to blatantly act on her ire, but she’ll always remember. If the jerk happens to be a Decepticon however, Primus help ye.
Overconfident - Sunstreaker talks a big game, and frequently picks targets outside of her weight class, though her size and armor don’t properly correlate. Her armor straddles the line between light and medium, meaning she’s especially vulnerable to the larger Decepticons she tends to antagonize. There are few fights she’ll choose to avoid, and it's a miracle she hasn’t been taken out yet.
Shaken - Once upon a time, Sunstreaker was a squad leader, and as anyone who’s read her last after-action report will see, it didn’t end well. The deaths of several of her squadmates have left her shaken in her confidence to lead others effectively, hence why she prefers to lonewolf it and take the risks herself. Her leadership abilities are also unique in that Sunstreaker will freely allow criticisms of them.
Painted Target - It’s been a long time since Sunstreaker dispensed with the need/inclination to go on missions in full camo. She’s fairly obvious wherever she goes, and tends to present herself as a big target to the Decepticons.
Stick to the Road - Given her altmode and speed, it goes without saying that Sunstreaker is most at home on a well-paved road. Going off-road however tends to present a few challenges, as it’s more difficult for her to reach top speed or maneuver properly. When the road ends, it’s time to hoof it.
Disarmed - As all of Sunstreaker’s firepower is situated in her forearms, damaging them or even just grabbing them hard enough is sufficient to rob her of much of her fighting ability.
Special Skills:
Beep Beep - Sunstreaker is a talented and persistent driver, having had plenty of experience racing and chasing down fugitives before the war. She’s also a little bit of a sucker for a good stunt, as well.
Sample RP:
The American Southwest at night…
Calm, cool, and tranquil. Nothing for miles but an endless stretch of road dotted by cacti and the odd rock formation. The sizzling heat of the sun, replaced by a cold, more forgiving moon. Nothing to cut the silence by the gentle sounds of crickets chirping, and the whispering of dusty winds. On any other night, that’s all this desert road would’ve been: sand and breeze.
And also some heavy bass boosted drums and synth being blasted from a Lamborghini doing 120 at 3 AM.
The nuances of late night road travel were lost on Sunstreaker, who didn’t need sleep, and hadn’t experienced a day and night cycle in several years. For the first time in however long it had been, she was FREE, and she was out of that DAMN transport. The transport in question had only afforded her to drive in a very, very small circle during her time as a passenger. Sure, it might’ve been a bit crass to blast it down the road like this, but Primus be damned. She needed a good stretch, not to mention the fact that she was alone, and couldn’t be judged for it.
That was the important part.
Besides, not like she was hurting anybody by being a big shot at this hour. Plus, she was fairly certain this was some sort of road-custom on Earth. After all, she’d scanned her newest alt-mode after a whole gang of cars went screaming down the road in the other direction, blaring music all the while. Seemed to be customary as far as she could tell, and who was she to go against custom?
Couldn’t be all fun and games though, as she still had an Autobot base to find. Sunstreaker was as sure as she could be that she’d landed on the right planet, though it didn’t look like a war was being fought anywhere she’d been through. Odds were she’d run into a Cybertronian sooner or later, if the message was good. Part of her hoped it would be a Decepticon.
A small blip suddenly appeared in the distance, illuminated by Sunstreaker’s headlights. It was a human, she believed, hunching over the propped-up hood of their truck, with a toolbox sitting at their feet. She shot straight past him, but not before giving him a particular universal greeting.
“EAT IT, LOSER!”
She was in far too good of a mood to care about interspecies diplomacy. Especially at this hour.
