Player info:
Name/Alias: Foxdroid / Fox
Character info:
Name: AirDagger (goes by “Dagger” for short)
Age: teens
Gender: Mech
Species: Cybertronian
Faction: Decepticon
Original Occupation: Tracker, intel gathering, hunter
Occupation/Specialization: Tracker, intel, recon
Appearance:
(Right)
Build / armor: On the short side, as well as the skinny side. He's about the same size as Arcee.
The shaping of his armor varies, with some sections having a more form fitting appearance while others flare out and appear to be a bit bulkier, primarily his “boots.” In terms of coloration, everything is painted in a monochrome palette of browns, the only exceptions to this being his claws and the tips of his feet (which are white), as well as the violet Decepticon insignia on his belt buckle, and a few bio lights of the same shade.
His wingspan is a bit on the smaller side, comparatively speaking, and all four appendages have a rectangular shape to them. On the top sides of the larger set, there are painted swirling patterns in beige. As stated above, he sports claws as well, though as they are not particularly large or sharp they are more suited to grappling on surfaces or terrain over any sort of potential combat application.
Facial features: His face plate is pure white, and his optics are copper colored, though differing in shade. Darker on the right, lighter on the left. Under each optic, he has two dark brown triangular markings.
Alt mode: Subsonex JSX-1 microjet
Pertinent History:
The course of Dagger’s life certainly did not play out the way it was intended to.
A cold construct, he was originally made by and for the rescue force sometime close to the middle of the war. His creators had plans to put together a combiner team- three fliers and three land-based mecha that could assist other units with searching for survivors in areas that had recently been attacked. In the process of spark transfusion, a split occurred, and they began coordinating efforts to accommodate a larger team. That, however, was a bit of an oversight on their part.
They were killed before the twins came online, being struck down by a group of Decepticons who had raided their headquarters with hopes of further weakening the enemy’s support system. However, one of the bunch with something of a still-intact moral compass decided Dagger and his sister ought to be spared as they didn’t have any sort of existing allegiance to the Autobots and hadn’t even been properly activated yet. She also saw it fit to take the pair with her instead of leaving them to their own devices. Probably because she realized doing so might have been a potential death sentence. Their siblings...were elsewhere in the building, and remained unseen to the invaders.
Saved from being scrapped and then scooped up by his should-have-been enemies on a whim, Dagger didn’t exactly have much time to think about what his purpose was or what was going on around him. But in time he adjusted, and adapted. Given he was built as a smaller, non-combat type jet and his alternate mode wasn’t set up to handle housing missiles and other long-range projectiles, joining the air force wasn’t the best option. Though, luckily, he would prove to have talents elsewhere, saving him from obsolescence. After being thrown into a good number of various tasks to see what would stick, it was observed that he and his sibling showed some promise when it came to tracking, given their naturally muted armor colorations and skill at sneaking around. In time, this would become their primary duty, and eventual forte.
The morality of their actions would have perhaps been a concern to the pair, if not for the fate of their rescuer and former teacher... She had been 'born' blind, and was almost killed by those who created her, as they were upset over her "defect" and thought it would prevent her from being able to perform as a gladiator. One of them, the mech who would have been her superior, formed a grudge after she escaped. A grudge that only grew stronger after she herself bested him in combat the next time they met. Then came the war. That mech, now an Autobot, found his old foe, and this time, she was not the one who emerged victorious. After she died, Dagger and his sister never thought about changing their loyalties again...
Despite the loss, they still carried out their duties. Quietly stalking Autobots from behind and sending their coordinates to the army, collecting intel, occasionally assisting soldiers with the hunting and subduing of specific individuals so that they could be handed over to their superiors...they were never the absolute best of the best, but they kept up a decent success rate, and managed to keep those in charge of them happy. Over the course of the war, they would be stationed on a number of various other planets as well, and gradually learn both how to navigate organic terrain as well as use such environments to their advantage during their time spent there. Before the end of the war, the pair relocated back to Cybertron, where they stayed until the fighting finally died down.
Having left Cybertron in a ship with a small handful of other Decepticons, he found himself headed into an uncertain future. Despite the circumstances, however, things went rather smoothly...until a major conflict broke out between two of the group’s superiors. Having openly taken the side of the one who wound up losing said altercation, the victorious party would plop both he and his sister on Earth out of resentment.
Personality:
Dagger is a bit more subdued than his counterpart, but he most definitely shares her mischievous streak, as well as her tendency to be two-faced. He can flip from acting playful and cheery to downright aggressive and a bit unhinged on a dime, something which has likely jarred more than a few individuals. That said, what side of him you’ll be dealing with is highly dependent on if you’re a friend or a foe- he’s generally cordial with most of his allies, not so much his enemies. He’s always willing to insult them, and is not really above using underhanded tactics ethier if that’s what it takes to win a fight.
He tries to project a calm and confident persona, but in truth this is a bit of a facade. He often experiences self doubt and anxiety, primarily stemming from the belief that he doesn’t measure up to his peers. He’s rather young, relatively speaking, and lacks the abilities that many of his larger fighter jet counterparts possess. In a faction that frowns on weakness, this often translates to him pushing himself way too far for the sake of approval. It honestly takes a toll on him, but he tries to hide this distress as drawing attention to your personal insecurities isn’t exactly something that will earn one favor in Decepticon world. Dagger also has a bit of an aversion to being alone for long periods of time, and will occasionally trail after bots he would like to befriend like a lost puppy with wings if his sibling isn’t around to keep him company. Unless someone tells him to get lost. Then he will totally get lost, ok? Promise.
Likes: Arrow, the wilderness, flying over or through said wilderness, animals (most of them), listening to and making music, exploring
Dislikes: Open air, being alone for long periods of time, people who doubt his abilities, small spaces, especially small underground spaces, loner attitudes
Weapons:
Machete: Used for close combat, as well as to clear out obstacles which are blocking his path. It can pierce through light or medium armor, and cause surface damage to heavy. It stays hooked to the side of his belt plate when not in use.
Slingshot: Used for distanced attacks, with a max effective range of about 120-130 meters. His ammunition for this is truthfully just whatever he can find- rocks, scrap metal, pieces of rubble, anything around him that looks potentially dangerous. Under ideal circumstances, he will keep 8 stones on hand. It’s unlikely these projectiles will gravely injure an opponent, but they can certainly effectively daze them, as well as wound. They can become lodged in armor or exposed plating, causing a good deal of pain. Capable of cracking light or medium armor, and heavy with repeated hits, though the extent of possible damage will be dependent on what is being used as ammo. Can be quite helpful in a fight, however, the reloading time is obviously far slower than that of a firearm.
Heat ray: Only usable when he is in alternate mode. It is channeled through a small cannon between his wings, which fires out a concentrated beam of charged thermal energy. These beams are not really intended to deeply pierce plating, only digging in an inch or two downward where they make contact, but the electrical/heat damage and pain inflicted by them can still properly incapacitate, especially if vital structures have been singed. With prolonged exposure, it can cause mild damage to heavy armor, moderate to medium grade, and significant to light. It is a shorter ranged weapon, only being able to extend out about 50 meters beyond his body. Due to this, it will only be effective if his target is in close proximity to him. It does start taking a toll on his energy levels if used for long periods of time, so he has to be mindful of this.
Strengths:
Speed: Not the fastest ‘bot in the sky (or on land), but within normal limits, he’s still quite quick and agile. This combined with his size can make him a hard target to pin down.
Aim for the head: He’s been slinging things at people long enough to have gotten quite good at it, and knows how to angle his strings to effectively hit weak spots. His slingshot strikes will often buy him enough time to take advantage of an enemy’s disorientation.
Cooperative: The only thing that has allowed him and his sibling to survive for as long as they have in this war is their exceptional teamwork abilities. He’s good at working in tandem with others on missions, and in fact, prefers to do so most of the time.
Can’t catch me: Being a mini jet does have a few upsides. Primarily that it’s much easier for Dagger to navigate his way through tight spaces than it would be for a larger flier, and in some cases, he can access areas they can’t even fit through. He is often able to temporarily throw his foes off his trail in this way.
Resourceful: He’s quite good at coming up with non-conventional attack plans using the aid of things in the environment around him. Many years of, well, aiding in the process of bot-snatching have also made him experienced in the art of rigging up pitfalls and the like.
Selective loyalty: A trait he shares with his twin. If he considers you a friend, he’ll try his best to protect you, and will come to your aid should you ever need his help.
Weaknesses:
Not the strongest: He’s not very physically strong. Should something happen to his weapons, he would very much be at a disadvantage against more powerful foes. His claws are not big or sharp enough to pierce armor, and his punching strength isn’t the best ethier. In fact, said punching strength would probably be borderline useless against someone with heavy armor.
Light armor: Although some sections of his armor may appear thicker, they are not particularly dense or durable in their makeup. He is susceptible to any sort of weaponry that can break or pierce light armor, and for this reason, it’s in his best interest to try to dodge hits rather than take them.
Barely passed jet ‘con class: Well…he’s not a fighter jet. His creators intended for him to be able to last in the potentially dangerous environments he was built to work in, but he was not made for combat and that fact is reflected in his physical build and specs. He can still exceed the max speeds of a number of more slower-moving types of fliers, but he absolutely cannot hit the same ones that his military counterparts can- going up against them will result in a race that he will always lose. His ray does not reach that far ethier, comparatively speaking, as short-range fire is all he can support. The odds will not be in his favor if he gets into an altercation in the air with someone who has long-distance weaponry on their side. Especially if they’re faster than him.
Acrophobia: Tied to the above point- He likes flying, but he certainly has a comfort zone in regards to his elevation level. Due to the factors stated above, being in fully open air causes him to become anxious due to a lingering paranoia that he’ll be easy to pick off without somewhere to retreat to if necessary. He significantly struggles to focus in these situations. He just wants to be close to something. A tree line, rock formations, buildings, anything.
Bite your tongue: He’s not really a coward, but he’s not exactly always the best at asserting himself ethier. If you push him far enough, you might get a snappy comeback, but it’s going to take him some time to get to that point. He’ll give Autobots all the fight he’s got in him, but when it comes to his own team? He can truthfully be a bit of a pushover sometimes.
Environment-dependent effectiveness: His combat strategy banks heavily on stealth and ambush attacks. That works great in places where he can sneak around, but in big, open spaces where he can easily be detected? Not so much. There’s also the matter of if things he can sling at people will actually be present in an area or not if replacement ammo is needed.
Two halves: Dagger is just as protective over his sister as she is with him. Sometimes, this can be beneficial, but it can also work against him. He will have a hard time controlling himself should someone harm her, insult her, or otherwise do something he perceives as wrong. Seeking immediate revenge without any critical thought is often the course of action-such instances can even drive him to confront those he otherwise wouldn’t under normal circumstances. Should she be truly severely injured, he would fly off into a blind rage without any care for the consequences of his actions. He has paid the price for this recklessness more than once, and likely will again.
Special Skills:
-Has (and plays) a harmonica-like instrument which he found discarded during the war and then learned how to use. He had had an interest in music prior, and enjoyed borrowing his sister’s banjo to play from time to time, so he figured he might as well seize the opportunity when it presented itself. He has gotten rather good at playing it due to many years of practice.
His holoform has its own smaller version, appearing as the Earth-based incarnation of the instrument.
Extra info:
-He has a holoform that he can use if necessary, though it tends to not make as many appearances as Arrow’s does given the top of his vehicle form is enclosed and there isn’t as much of a need for it in the sky.
-He is able to feel sympathetic pain. Minor damage won’t really be problematic, but if Arrow gets hit particularly hard or has some area of her body impaled or burned in some way, he’s going to feel an echo of that pain in his own body. Even if such an injury was inflicted on a structure he doesn’t have himself. For example, if she were to sustain a decent amount of damage to a hubcap after losing a wheel or otherwise having that area injured, it might give him an ankle cramp severe enough to actually temporarily impact his gait. This sensation is stronger when they are closer to each other, and will become a bit weaker if there is a decent amount of distance between them (“Decent” being 2 or 3 miles, generally).
