What did he want?
Honestly, Thundercracker wanted this war to be over. He didn’t care how or why, he just wanted the fighting to stop. He wanted his trinemate and brother back, not this scheming gloryhound who was currently standing in Starscream’s place.
But he didn’t say these things.
“I just want to do right by someone to whom I owe a debt. I don’t care how it gets done, I just care that it gets done.” Thundercracker replied before he turned to leave. “If I couldn’t get you to surrender the arms, I was hoping I could convince you to do the right thing.”
He paused somewhat at seeing Starscream dash around and try to cut in front of him to prevent him from leaving. Thundercracker tensed visibly with his wings hiking up to their highest point, watching out for any treachery, only to be completely taken aback by Starscream’s next statement. If Starscream was seeing that the arms were taken care of, it could mean one of two things. One, Starscream wanted to have them in perfect condition when he hung them up as a trophy, or two, he intended to return them.
And judging from the conversation he just had with Starscream, he had to guess that the seeker did not intend to hang them up as a trophy.
“Maybe you’ve just returned to your true self...” Thundercracker said quietly, thinking back to the good old days.

Starscream wouldn’t move from where he stood - as he had no intention of letting Thundercracker pass him to the point of leaving the room, at least not yet. His optics would not leave that of the other mech, though his posture had relaxed considerably from mere moments ago.
“Perhaps think up your own way to thank him, then, if this debt is so important to you. The arms have nothing to do with you at all, nor are they yours to return.”
It would’ve been strange indeed if Thundercracker had been the one to offer the arms back, and he wondered if Flatline would’ve even accepted them, especially given the reason they had been removed. He had been the one to take them from the black and red medic, and so realistically he should be the one to return them.
And he would, in all due time.
At the next comment, he would tsk quietly, shaking his helm as his arms folded loosely across his chassis.
“Maybe I have. Now if only you could see that without clinging to a past long since gone.” his optics narrowed slightly as he spoke, venting out a gentle sigh.
“Did you want anything else…?” he grumbled this, slowly lowering his arms - though he would not step aside. The first time Thundercracker had been in this office just over a week prior, it’d been to accuse him of killing Skywarp, which had led to an argument and then a physical altercation. While he hoped things would not follow the same path, he was ever wary - tensions were high, and he held very little trust for the other Seeker.

“Maybe I thought that I could hit two targets with one shot?” Thundercracker said simply, red optics meeting Starscream’s own red optics and holding the smaller seeker’s gaze. “Maybe I thought I could save your spark, even just a little bit, by having you perform an act of charity. Guess I was wrong about that.” He said before moving to pass by the other seeker.
He stopped though at Starscream’s comment, letting out a soft sigh that combined a sense of both resignation and exasperation.
“Maybe you should try looking to the past once in a while, instead of chasing a future that has no certainty of coming true...”
He chuckled, shaking his head as he remembered. Starscream had always been thinking of the future, rarely enjoying the moment like Skywarp or Thundercracker had done. Thinking back, it had been that trait which had made Starscream a good leader to push the frontier, never one to settle. Sometimes Thundercracker wondered how the three of them had ever gotten along.
“Ah well...”
He shrugged. Perhaps one day all of Starscream’s dreams and wishes would indeed come true.

“Maybe I thought that I could hit two targets with one shot?”
A gentle ‘tsk’ escaped Starscream at the words, and he shook his helm.
“By piggybacking on something that doesn’t even concern you? Flatline may have helped you once upon a time, but surely that warrants an expression of gratitude with a little more thought put into it than an act of convenience.”
He highly doubted that Flatline would’ve even accepted the arms should Thundercracker be the one to return them, though would not voice these thoughts out loud.
“And for what it’s worth, my spark- does not need saving!” there was a slight hitch to his words as he spoke, his brother had clearly hit a nerve.
This time, he would not try to stop Thundercracker as he moved to pass. His wings sagged some, revealing more of his current mindset than he’d of liked. He was not in the mood for a fight, though his optics would narrow as the other Seeker paused - almost as if he was expecting one.
He’d tensed his frame without realizing, though at the chuckle he would relax just slightly, shaking his helm once more as he spoke.
“I do look to the past. More often than I care to admit, for that reason alone.” his voice low, followed by a tired sigh of his own. Would he have done things differently, knowing what he knew now? Of course he would. They all would. He’d made the most of the hand he had been dealt, and if Thundercracker could only see the effort and the changes that’d been made - even despite everything - then maybe they would be one step closer in reaching some sort of middle ground.
Venting out another sigh, he would sidestep away from the door. Wings still hung low at his back, he would keep his optics on the other Seeker.
“In that case, you may go if you wish... It goes without saying that you are to keep the return of Flatline’s arms to yourself. For what little it’s worth, I want it to be a surprise when I return them to him.”

Like Starscream, Thundercracker wasn’t in the mood to fight, not anymore. As he watched Starscream’s wings sag slightly it dawned on him how tired Starscream probably was. However, any twinge of sympathy he had for Starscream disappeared after a moment. However evil Megatron was, the truth of the matter was that Starscream had chosen to serve him and had done inexcusable things to climb to that position. Things that Thundercracker had witnessed and sometimes participated in...
Not that it excused Thundercracker of any culpability. It just meant that during those quiet moments, when he lay awake thinking about how it had all gone down, Thundercracker couldn’t help but hate Starscream for leading them down this path. And he was pretty sure that one day they would have to answer for their actions...
“Fine, I’ll keep your secret Starscream...”
Thundercracker moved past the silver seeker but paused once he exited the doorway, hand resting against the doorframe as he turned back towards Starscream. He stared at the one he had once considered his brother for a long moment, mouth opening as if he was going to say something before he ended up closing it and looking away.
“See you around, Starscream.”
Without another word, Thundercracker left the room and walked down the hallway.

There were no motions made to stop Thundercracker as he started walking once more, though the silver Seeker’s wings would remain sagged low at his back, silently betraying his mindset on things. While things would never be the same as they had been, he could only hope that - eventually - some sort of middle ground could be met to the point that things were no longer awkward and strained.
He would not actively seek any sort of forgiveness from his brother, as while some of the things he had done - that they had all done - were practically unforgivable, he had made decisions and choices that’d kept him, and others, alive. Such was the case in war, and while it came at a cost? He’d do it again.
“I appreciate it.” his voice quiet, he moved to follow the other Seeker, if only to close the door behind him - though would pause as Thundercracker turned around. He held the optic contact, frame tensing ever so slightly. There were many things that’d been left unsaid, so many things he wanted to say - yet he would remain quiet until the other mech spoke first.
“Thank you for the Energon, Thundercracker.”
Venting out a quiet sigh, he would step forward as Thundercracker fully exited the room, watching him for a second as he made his way down the corridor, before closing the door and moving back to his desk.
