Name/Alias: Foxdroid
CHARACTER INFO
Name: Blades
Age: Mid twenties
Gender: Mech
Species: Cybertronian
Faction: Autobot
Original Occupation: Paramedic, search and rescue
Occupation/Specialization: Paramedic, search and rescue, medical support
Appearance:
Build / Armor- In terms of build, Blades is rather non-remarkable. Not particularly small or thin, yet not all that large or muscular. However, it could be said that some sections of his armor appear a bit ‘oversized’ in comparison to his body given their bulky appearance. In terms of silhouette, his plating has a primarily smooth and streamlined shape, and covers both his vital areas and extremities as well as a portion of his upper legs. The coloration is mainly white, with accents of bright orange and silver. Underneath, the unarmored sections of his body are a dark charcoal gray. He sports a variation of the Cybertronian medical emblem on the orange portions of either shoulder guard as well, though in white as opposed to the typical red to differentiate himself from his counterparts who work in higher level care. In terms of size, he is slightly taller than Bumblebee.
The rotor blades of his namesake are fairly easy to spot upon looking at him- all four of them lay against his back, and share the same white and orange coloration as his plating. Though not as expressive as something like wings or door-wings, they are capable of a small range of motion-they can move upwards or downwards, and have a habit of (embarrassingly) clattering a bit when he’s particularly nervous…
Facial features- His optics are a light teal color, and his face plate is white. On either cheek, he has two light gray angular markings. Blades will also be seen sporting a green visor from time to time, when he feels like his optics are in need of protection (fights, while dealing with environmental hazards, etc). This visor also has a built-in scanner that allows him to take quick, basic readings of a patient’s vitals.
Altmode: Bell-429 EMS Helicopter (Global Ranger)
Pertinent history:
Blades was made shortly before the onset of the great war, as one of a small batch of mecha commissioned by the search & rescue division of Iacon’s state first response force.
It wasn’t long after he had been activated, that the young bot was sent to his intended destination. The specific wing he was assigned to was under the command of a mech who, while still bound by the pitfalls of the caste system, was at least forward thinking enough to allow his workers to decide what specific task they would like to carry out within the force. A decision, he rationalized, based on the fact that a lack of passion could spell disaster in their line of work. After some contemplation, Blades would settle on taking up a medical role- more specifically, as the paramedic that would accompany his batch-mates on their respective future missions. Such a position appealed to him due to his own innate sense of empathy and desire to help others, as well as the fact it seemed to be slightly less risky than the other options that were available…a win in the mind of the cautiously natured bot.
After receiving the necessary training at the headquarters, Blades was able to be properly put to work. He was fortunate, in that his profession was something he did truly enjoy- despite the demanding nature of the job, the lives saved left him with a sense that he was making some sort of a difference, and he would come to develop very close friendships with his partners. His own luck, however, did not blind him to the injustices of the caste system. The situation weighed on his mind throughout the years, though he thought himself unable to enact any real change, being just one mech. Despite the rising political tensions centered around said caste system, however, life carried on normally for the most part for Blades...until a twist of fate changed everything.
When traveling off-planet with his team to carry out a rescue mission, in place of another crew which had been unable to do so, the navigation systems of the ship the group were using at the time crashed completely. Blades and his teammates were left lost in the vastness of space, with no effective means of communication…and as the days passed, and energon reserves dwindled, they chose to sleep within the ship’s built in stasis pods with hopes that they would be reawoken upon making contact with another vessel in the nearby area. Except…no one found them. Weeks turned into months, months turned into years, years turned into centuries…and Blades and his partners were not found until well into the middle of the war, located by a group of Autobots who were passing through the area.
These Autobots would take on the responsibility of waking up the crew, checking them over, and briefing them on the current state of affairs after they realized what had happened. All of it was, for sure, a shock to Blades. One minute he had been sleeping, and the next, he found himself thrown into the middle of a dire civil war. In the face of this new conflict, his first instinct was to remain neutral… but the information given to him by his rescuers, as well as the things he came to witness firsthand on their voyage across the stars, led both he and his crew to take up the Autobot cause in time. They would eventually return to Cybertron with their newfound friends, despite knowing the risks. Although the group knew next to nothing about combat at the start of their involvement in the war, their own personal skill sets were thankfully still useful in this context. Especially Blades’ own.
He did what he could... caring for the injured, escorting them to what hospitals were still left standing or triage locations. Filling a support role for doctors and field medics in need of an assistant. Searching for those in need of help. As was the case with nearly everyone else, the war was not kind to Blades. Witnessing so much pain and suffering firsthand, watching the lives of some patients who were unable to be saved slip away… it took a toll on him. The transition from living life as a civilian to having to learn how to fight from the ground up with his own survival at stake, was also more than a bit challenging. He became separated from his teammates over the years as well, slowly but surely. When it was all over, he had no one but himself. And so, he found himself leaving the now dead Cybtertron with what little remained of the larger rescue force and little else.
They would scatter in time, the end result of which being himself left on an outpost planet inhabited by a mix of different species from across the galaxy for some number of years. Then, he would get the message.
Personality: Caring, introspective, shy, cautious. And maybe occasionally a little bit sassy when he’s feeling emboldened around those he knows well enough.
He most definitely has a comfort zone, and can hesitate to break out of it. However, it could be said that time has made him braver, as both the demands of his job and suddenly finding himself in the middle of a war forced him to confront more than a few dangerous situations and learn how to work under pressure. …That doesn’t mean that he’s going to be the first bot to jump out of their chair and volunteer for a high stakes aerial mission, though.
On the other side of the coin, he is a very empathetic individual, considerate of the needs and feelings of others. He will do whatever he can to keep those he cares for safe and happy, even if doing so may present personal challenges.
He likes his alone time, but also deeply values those he considers friends and any moments spent in their company.
Likes: Art, bright colors, learning about alien cultures, calm and quiet, his friends, things of the small and cute variety.
Dislikes: Noisy places or situations, disappointing people, crowds, being put in a position of authority, conflict among allies, getting overly dirty, flying.. or rather all the things that could go wrong while flying.
Weapons:
Collapsible saber: His primary weapon. When in use, the hilt projects a blade made of hard-light energy which can be used for either combat or clearing out environmental obstacles. It's capable of piercing light and medium armor, and at least leaving a dent in heavy. Though generally a dependable weapon, due to the fact it’s hand-held rather than built in, it needs to be charged via an external energy source between uses. If a battle drags on for longer than usual, the saber may begin to lose power, and not cut as well as it would otherwise.
Tranquilizer gun: Dispatched from a built in launcher on his left arm- these darts will leave a target feeling disoriented and drowsy. This is typically only used as a last resort when he feels he may not be capable of properly subduing an enemy and calling for backup or fleeing may be necessary. The effects of the sedative can last anywhere between ten and fifteen minutes, though factors such as the size and weight of the bot in question will have an influence on the duration of time the mixture remains active. Said mixture is essentially just concentrated medical anesthetic, so it should not leave the target with any adverse effects after it wears off. It can be helpful, but he only has so much of it- typically, about five doses worth at any given time.
These darts are capable of piercing light, medium, or heavy armor.
Strengths:
Well rounded: Blades is…very average. His strength is average, his speed is average, his defenses are average. He may not really excel in any particular areas when it comes to physical capabilities, [and can always be outclassed by those who do] but on the upside of things, he doesn’t notably suffer in any specific areas either.
Medium grade armor: Still susceptible to anything that can pierce medium grade armor, but this can be helpful. The areas in-between armor plating (upper arms, waist, inner legs, lower back etc) are more susceptible to damage.
Knows where to hit you: Given his profession, Blades has a fairly good understanding of where weak points are on the body, and knows how to exploit them. He won’t try to fatally injure anyone unless its a total necessity, of course, but incapacitating them is certainly possible under the right circumstances.
Persistence: It’s no secret that this mech is afraid of a lot of things. However, he still pushes onward despite the fact and will put aside his own fears to help those in need. He might be scared at times, but he’s not going to give up, especially if someone’s life is on the line.
Kind hearted: He’s a very caring and empathetic individual. Should you ever have a problem, he’ll be willing to be your shoulder to cry on, or sounding board to complain to. He’s also usually one of the first to ask if someone is okay, should he see them sporting a downcast expression, or offer comforting words in the event that another is going through a tough situation.
Weaknesses:
Please don’t punch me: Blades can’t really deal any significant damage with his fists alone. Should something happen to his saber, his close combat competence will quickly suffer. Anyone who is experienced in hand to hand combat, or just happens to be particularly physically strong, will be able to kick his butt swiftly in such a situation.
Paramedic first, fighter second: Since being thrown into the war, learning how to fight was a non-negotiable, but he only knows the basics- what’s necessary to stay alive and defend himself. He’s no soldier. Trained and or experienced combatants will always have an advantage over him in this way.
Unarmed alt mode: Part of the reason why Blades is nervous about flying, especially for long distances, is that his alternate mode is not well equipped to house weaponry. Many of the spots that could otherwise be dedicated to armaments are instead taken up by the various tools and modifications he needs to help him carry out search and rescue work- meaning, if an enemy flier decides the symbols marking him as a medic aren’t an obstacle to them…he’s not in for a good time. Typically, if faced with a persistent ‘con who is dead set on pursuing him, his best bet will be to try and bring them down to the ground where the odds will be more in his favor.
Glass houses: Because of the way his canopy is configured in root mode, there is a section of glass running down the lower portion of his chest. Although not really flimsy or weak as far as glass goes, it will of course be far easier to puncture than the rest of his armor via projectiles or melee weapons, and as such, is a bit of a vulnerability as the plating beneath is thinner than that found elsewhere on his body. His vitals are above this spot, but enough damage to it is still going to create problems for him. The same is true for the other half of the canopy that wraps around his head- there’s not much standing between his more delicate neck and shoulder-blade plating and a hypothetical sharp object.
Nervous!: Given his years of working a relatively high-stress job both in and out of a war, he has learned how to cope with his nerves. However, some situations will still genuinely break his focus. …typically in the sky. Blades may be an aerial frame, but he usually doesn’t like flying. Primarily because he tends to stay fixated on all of the things that could go wrong when in the air. And when something actually does go wrong? He’s prone to freezing up. For example, let an armed enemy flier circle him enough times, and he’s liable to sit there like a deer in the headlights until his survival instincts kick back in. This, of course, can happen on the ground as well. Blades can and will mentally blank out at very inopportune times, and has definitely paid the price for it before.
Orange with envy: Blades has just a bit of a jealousy problem. He can become envious of those he views as being more successful than himself… these often less than productive thought processes can lead to him becoming frustrated with himself, or a lack of focus. In its worst form, it can lead to a wedge being driven between himself and others temporarily.
Special Skills:
Paramedic: Blades is trained in emergency medical care and as such, is capable of helping those that are injured. However, being a paramedic, extensive internal repairs are not his forte. While he knows enough about standard procedure to fill a support role in the medbay, asking him to perform surgery will probably cause him to stare at you blankly and then panic. In other words, he can’t.
Extra Info:
He has a number of tools, as well as a few adaptations to help him carry out his job:
-The container of assorted medical things: A bag-like container where he keeps his tools. Includes such things as bandage patches, local anesthetics, sanitizers, welding tools and other general first aid items. When not in use, he will typically either keep it slung over a shoulder or stored in his cockpit.
-Cargo hook: Can be used in alternate mode to move objects, or lift a smaller target to safety. (Smaller target= humans, minicons, cassettes, bots around Arcee’s size).
-Search light: Used in alternate mode. A built-in floodlight that is capable of lighting up areas well at night. Although he typically used it to search for those who may have been in need of help, it can also reveal enemies who may be hiding in the darkness.
-Visor HUD: Capable of doing a basic scan on a target and providing information about their vitals and basic status. It’s not capable of giving him highly advanced and specific information, but will alert him if there is a problem at hand.
(Misc)
-Art is one of Blade’s hobbies. He began working on small drawings to pass the time before the war, and would go on to continue doing this after being rescued, as a distraction during whatever few moments of free time he had. He is decently skilled.
