Name/Alias: River
CHARACTER INFO
Name: ARZ-298 aka Raze
Age: Mid-twenties
Gender: Mech, he/they
Species: Cybertronian - Eradicon
Faction: Decepticons
Occupation/Specialization: Aerial Soldier, Canon fodder
Appearance: Raze is a lanky creature, standing the same height as a standard Vehicon on the height chart. Sheathed in purples, black and silver, Raze is the epitome of Decepticon aesthetics. His silver face is near featureless, save for the flattened V of his crimson optical visor. Bracketing their simple yet elegant visage are twin narrow plates, pointed at the chin, rising to the temple and seeping back.
Broad shoulders with high-rising angular plates disguise an utterly lackluster strength. Equally angular plated arms end with simple hands equipped with a bare minimum of two pointed fingers and a thumb apiece. At the center of a broad chest lies the quintessential Decepticon insignia. Below said chest is a narrow waist, slim thighs, and heavy booted legs with long feet. On his back are the upward pointed wings that define his alt.
Altmode: Raze’s altmode is Cybertronian in nature, not Terran, and thus is alien in design. It vaguely resembles an aerodynamic wedge with forward swept main wings with slight anhedral, and a slightly dihedral tail plane. He is dark purple, with completely black faux windows.
Pertinent History: Cold constructed after the war was underway, The Vehicon/Eradicon/Miner factories were originally under Autobot control, under Sentinel Prime's rule. However, they were never used to forge Autobot drones. Liberated by the Decepticons quickly to boost their numbers and hold in the war, the Vehicons were swiftly mass-produced to serve the Decepticon forces, and as such that is all they've ever known.
About two million years ago, one particular eradicon drone emerged from the Decepticon controlled crèche factory. Burdened with inglorious purpose and the creative serial number identification of ARZ-298, the soldier was sent on their way to the immediate front lines of the planet spanning war. ARZ-298 was one of the lucky few, luck granted by huge numbers allowing for statistical outliers, and the shape of that luck? For every battle ARZ-298 survived, they were rewarded with more battle, and even the occasionally laborious drudgery, just for a change of pace.
Most, if not all, of these mass-produced soldiers were heavily indoctrinated. They knew only war and the absolute, unquestionable authority of their master, Lord Megatron. In this way, ARZ-298 was certainly no different. For the better part of the war, history would record almost nothing of the eradicon soldier ARZ-298 save for Squad assignments and an uninspiring medical record.
A literal lifetime spent around fellow clones produced a type of empathy in ARZ-298 for their fellow troops based on simple familiarity. What he saw in others vehicons was easy to imagine in himself, hopes and dreams, as well as injury and death. Unwilling to defy the supreme authority that was Megatron, ARZ-298 nonetheless came to have conflicted feelings towards Decepticon leadership. As devoted as he was towards his leader, he was also devoted towards his squad mates and their plethora of clones, and he struggled to accept the expendable nature of his brethren, and the nigh suicidal orders they were burdened with.
He found a friend in another lucky Eradicon while many were crowded aboard the Nemesis as it chased the Arc eventually to Earth. It was here, aboard a spaceship and so very far away from a very dead home, that ARZ-298 chose an individual name from a local language. Since his time on Earth, ARZ-298 has found the change of scenery enjoyable, and far from monotonous. This Decepticon soldier has discovered organic life forms make him feel squeamish, M.E.C.H worries him, and yet Humanity has provided a plethora of enjoyable culture. While he still enjoys a good fight, since coming to Earth, he cares less and less about “The Cause” and any pretense of moral righteousness.
Personality: Raze, as ARZ-298 has named himself, is surprisingly relaxed for someone whose sole function at conception was to be fodder for the war machine. The only time he truly becomes energetic is hunting and fighting his Autobot enemies. Raze actually has fun living near the edge of death, because for him, it is the ultimate thrill of life. His otherwise chill nature manifests in his lack of display of strong emotions, and a simple desire for efficiency in his work with little wasted effort.
Raze has sought to enhance his mediocre combat skills and improve his survival chances. He also tries to help other eradicons likewise improve themselves, since a better team also has greater chances. Raze cares deeply about his fellow clone troopers which can sometimes conflict with devotion to Decepticon leadership and his own joy in fighting, and so he tries not to think about the looming paradox. Raze avoids thinking about which is the right path, for he has no good answer.
Raze enjoys drawing and painting, and reading horror stories. Even presented with all the colors of Earth, his aesthetics in his artistic creations tends heavily towards the gothic. He really likes dark places, even though he lacks any way to see into the shadows.
A life of war has brought with it a morbid and macabre sense of humor. Raze likes to laugh at death, because he is damn certain it will come for him too one day. Despite being an avid flier, Raze does not like to fly high. A plethora of enemy anti-air missiles has taught him to fear open skies and a rather inglorious death. He knows he is not the equal of enemy seekers - whatever they call themselves - either. He may flirt with Death, but he isn't ready for the final dance. Tactically, he just really enjoys chasing enemy grounders.
Likes: Fellow Eradicons, Vehicons, and miners. Gothic art. Self Improvement. Seekers, Starscream’s pure air superiority awesomeness. Fighting.
Dislikes: Autobots with their elite skills and superior guns. Squishy organic lifeforms. Scratches that won't buff out. Bird strike. Starscream’s ludicrous plays for power every time Megatron gets a dent. Open skies and surface-to-air missiles. (S.A.M has become a swearword, e.g. “Go slam a sam”). Being all alone.
Strengths/Weapons:
Superior numbers: The greatest strength of Raze is his ability to work as a team alongside his Decepticon brethren, and especially in flight with other Eradicons. The presence of comrades only bolsters his resolve in any and every task.
Combat Pro-and-Con: Both through experience, and actual enjoyment of fighting, Raze has become skilled at knowing when to attack aggressively, and when to cut and run. He is not easily scared or tricked away from Victory, nor easily downed through a mistake in judgment.
Get a Grip: Raze possesses clawed fingers, with which he can pierce light and medium armor.
Spray and Prey: Raze comes with standard laser blasters that transform from their forearms. Each laser can fire with up to seven rapid shots in very quick succession with a three-second cooldown between bursts, capable of piercing medium armor. These blasters are also available in altmode.
Gun-Fu: Raze is more accurate with his blasters than the average Eradicon through greater effort to learn, but he is no gunslinger yet.
Plug and play: The factory built nature of Eradicons and Vehicons means damaged parts are easily replaced with spares. The downside is that these spares come from fallen comrades - and there have been a lot of those.
Weaknesses:
One is the loneliest number: When Raze is on his own, he is already outnumbered. He simply lacks the skills to go toe to toe with any Autobot with significant combat experience. The heavy focus on quantity over quality team tactics means he has poor training in hand-to-hand combat or ranged accuracy. ARZ-298 has been working on himself, but still has a long way to go. Raze also does not function very well independently for any task if there isn't another comrade within visual distance. He starts to panic if he’s on his own for too long.
Wild Blue Yonder: Raze has only the most basic airspeed indicator and compass that is only just sufficient for the express and only purpose of flying X distance in Y direction. He relies on landmarks for more accurate navigation.
Expendable resources: What Raze lacks in training, he also lacks in physical aptitude. Their strength is simply par for their size, and their speed and agility are mediocre at best.
The Plight Fantastic: Faced with the complexity of balancing a devotion to an abusive, potentially insane, leader, concern for his fellows vehicons, a desire to fight, and a desire to live had led Raze to curtail his own critical thinking. Despite decent intelligence when he focuses, he very often just forgets to think. (He says he’s “vibing” in these moments). Additionally, he suffers from a great deal of self-doubt, he struggles to find genuine happiness for himself or have any ambitions beyond the next day.
Fear Weather Friend: Exposure to chemical warfare and acid rain has given Raze a fear of rain, mist, fog and clouds. While not quite hydrophobia, his distrust of meteorological phenomena is borderline debilitating.
Fake Mustache: Raze and his kin don't wear earth disguises, increasing their chances of losing the element of surprise. An Autobot can recognize these Cybertronians far more easily than vice versa.
