Species: Cybertronian
Faction: Autobot
Original Occupation: Assassin/Decepticon Special Operations
Occupation/Specialization: Sword Master/Spiritual Guru
Appearance:
Drift stands at about the same height as Wheeljack and Bumblebee when in root mode, placing him at about the average size for most mechs, however his frame is much thinner and more streamlined. His helm, faceplate, chestplate, forearms and lower legs are all white with red detailing, while his waist and knees are the same red shade that the detailing on his white portions are and his shoulders are black. The rest of his body is a dark gray which covers his joints, hands, and neck, with yellow detailing on his forehead and shoulders. His optics are a shade of light blue, and he has a tire on each forearm and on each ankle for his alternate mode. An Autobot badge is on his chestplate done in a raised silver metal. He carries a short sword on each hip and an ancient great sword on his back.
Altmode: Quimera AEDC
Pertinent History:
Drift was originally forged in Iacon, but for what purpose he cannot remember. All that he remembers of his days before the war was living in the slums known as the Dead End, numbed out of his mind on a regular basis by circuit boosters. It was one trip that saw him set upon by a pair of vagrants intent on stripping him for parts when he was saved by two enforcement officers who carried him to a clinic where he was pulled from near death by a sympathetic doctor. Said doctor told him to make something of himself.
Putting off the doc’s continued attempts at administration, Drift made his way back to the Dead End, only to see a good friend of his gunned down by the same thugs who were going to tear him apart. In a rage he attacked them, grabbing one of their guns and shooting them both down in a fit of rage. At first, he was horrified at what he had done, but this display of violence attracted the attention of a career criminal who had been watching what he thought would be a quick laugh and was impressed by Drift’s capacity for violence. This criminal proceeded to take Drift under his wing and taught him how to use what he called his “gift for mayhem” for a purpose, honing his skills in gunplay and hand to hand combat to turn him into an enforcer and assassin. He became a favorite asset of those in power that wanted an untraceable agent to do their dirty work. This close proximity to the corruption of those in power left a sour taste in Drift’s mouth, but he was not going to bite the hand that fed him.
All that changed one day when Drift happened to be in the vicinity of a Decepticon political rally. Originally disinterested in what he figured was going to be more empty promises in order to gain power, Drift found himself moved by what was being spoken. So much so that when the keynote speaker called Drift out of the crowd and asked if he would take up the crusade to change Cybertron for the better, he agreed. Drift was then given a new name to symbolize his rebirth. From then on, Drift was known as Deadlock.
Turning his skills over to the service of the Decepticon cause, Deadlock became a feared Autobot hunter once the war began, targeting key Autobot leaders and conducting sabotage operations across the warfront. One day Deadlock was given a mission to kill a high level medical officer which he took without a second thought, only when he had his scope on the individual realized it was the same doctor who had saved his life all those eons ago. Despite having a clear shot, Deadlock refused to take it. After that day, nothing was the same. Deadlock lost the taste he had for his work, so much so that he eventually decided to desert just before the beginning of the Exodus.
Deadlock’s decision was not very well received by his commanding officers and he was immediately placed on the Decepticon’s Most Wanted list, meaning that there were very few options available to him for hiding out. However one night in a deserted corner of the galaxy after fighting off a Decepticon hitsquad and being severely injured in the battle, Drift was rescued and taken in by the Circle of Light, a group of Cybertronians who had remained neutral and departed Cybertron during the early days of the war. It was in their Crystal City that Drift found true peace for the first time in many millennia and began to come to terms with himself and his past, taking on his old name of Drift and receiving a new paintjob as well as some minor modifications as a part of that process. Additionally he decided to take an oath vowing that he would never use guns again and devoted himself to the study of traditional Cybertronian martial arts such as Metallikato under the tutelage of ancient Cybertronian masters who had remained neutral. During this time Drift began to focus primarily on the study of Metallikato due to the influence of his Metallikato teacher who had been the one to bring him to Crystal City.
In Drift’s life, good things usually did not last, as Crystal City was eventually discovered by the Decepticons and attacked with the city being destroyed and many in Crystal City being killed, including Drift’s teacher. Deciding that he could no longer stand on the sidelines of a war that he had helped prolong, Drift took up his teacher’s Great Sword and headed for the stars, determined to put an end to the Decepticon cause once and for all. Eventually in the course of his travels he ran into an Autobot unit and joined their ranks, though he kept his Decepticon past a secret from them all. After an attack which forced the unit to scatter he learned of the struggle on Earth and decided to make his way there. He managed to steal a ship from a Decepticon unit at some point in his travels, but having forgotten how to pilot after centuries of living in the Crystal City led to him crashing the ship in the mountains of Europe. After taking an Earth alternate mode Drift has set out on his mission across the planet, though without any idea of where his enemy is the progress of his mission has stalled out somewhat while he looks to connect with the Autobots on Earth.
Personality:
Outwardly Drift tries to put up a very happy, cheerful, and optimistic front. However if one ever manages to catch him in a quiet moment by himself one might be surprised to see that the smile very quickly fades to a frown. As much as Drift tries to put on a happy face and shoulder through the troubles that life throws at him he often finds himself constantly weighed down by feelings of depression and regret at his past actions. He actively tries to counter this through channeling his energies into his work or with helping others as well as meditation sessions in his off time and by writing poetry.
Likes: Honor, Autobots, Doing the Right Thing, Swords, Meditation, Poetry, Philosophical Discussions
Dislikes: Decepticons, Guns, Being Reminded of His Past, Mistrust by His Own Side, Misery and Suffering Being Inflicted on Others, Addictions
Strengths/Weapons:
Twin Swords: Drift’s primary weapons, a pair of twin short swords made from the strongest metal Cybertron has to offer. A gift from his friend and teacher, these swords are capable of cutting through light armor with minimal effort, though anything greater would require a good amount of effort on Drift’s part.
Great Sword: Originally belonging to Drift’s master, this ancient Cybertronian sword is powered by the spark of its wielder and capable of slicing through heavy armor without any effort beyond lifting the blade. However, this great power comes at a large cost to Drift physically due to his internal battlefield injuries. Thus he is only able to use it for about five minutes and he is left physically weakened after it’s use, requiring at least a day to come back up to fighting strength.
Light on My Peds: Drift has been blessed with exceptional speed and maneuverability by Primus which complements his twin sword fighting style, making him light on his feet and quick with his blade.
Martial Arts: During his time as an assassin Drift learned the Cybertronian martial art known as Crystalocution, which focuses on hand to hand combat and striking an opponent’s fracture points. During his time in the Crystal City he also learned Metallikato, a blade focused martial art that serves as his primary fighting style now.
Processor Over Matter: Drift’s martial arts training at the hands of the Circle of Light also included mental training in addition to the physical, enabling him to detach his processor from the situation during extreme situations. This allows him to endure large amounts of physical pain without succumbing to its effects and remaining alert.
Weaknesses:
No Guns: Due to his decision to forsake guns, Drift has left himself without any sort of ranged weapon, meaning that he has to close the distance in order to inflict any damage against his opponent.
Light Armor: While beneficial to Drift’s fighting style and increasing his speed and maneuverability, Drift’s lighter frame and armor mean he’s extremely vulnerable to attacks that manage to make their way through his guard.
Out to Prove a Point: Although he guards the fact that he used to be a Decepticon very closely, Drift still feels that he has to prove his virtue to everyone. As a result he can be prone to taking very risky and ill advised actions if he believes that the end result would be proof that has changed.
Consequences: Centuries of being on the run without access to proper medical care has left major scars on Drift’s internal structure. Despite the best efforts of the Circle of Light, Drift burns through energon at an accelerated rate compared to other beings his size.
Special Skills:
Old Habits Die Hard: Despite his own personal oath to not use guns, Drift still remembers a lot about how to properly use and maintain them from his days as Deadlock. While he will not personally use one, he is able to advise on them.
Extra Info:
