CHARACTER INFO
---------------------------------
Name: Rung
Age: Human equivalent late 50s early 60s.
Gender: Mech
Species: Cybertronian
Faction: Autobot
Original Occupation: Psychotherapist
Occupation/Specialization: Psychotherapist
Appearance:
Rung is a skinny, boxy mech of primarily orange, with cream stripes, and turquoise bio-lights. Taller than Smokescreen, yet shorter than Ratchet, he lacks any formidable armor to speak of, possesses no weapons, and does not appear to possess any vehicular features, aside from a singular wheel within a removable backpack.
His helm is rather tall, with a white stripe along the middle and two protruding orange ornaments on either side. He has a small antenna over his left audial, and a small chin guard. The most notable feature of his entire frame, are likely his eyebrows. Which are large, black, blocky, and extremely expressive.
A circular turquoise bio-light sits in the center of his chest, that matches his optics; which are large, teal, gentle and covered by a removable set of circular corrective lenses. His hands are skinny, squarish and dark gray, with fully articulated digits. His forearms are orange, and each possess the outline of a small compartment. His pedds are large, and blocky with a silver toe-wedge.
Altmode: Exempt! (Rung is a disabled mono-former.)
Pertinent History:
Rung is amongst the oldest Cybertronians who survive. Having once lived in the earliest of villages, he watched proudly as his species blossomed and developed. When cities began to form, he began to travel. When the Quintessons came, he did all he could to support his people’s defense; behind the lines, of course, as even then, even against their oppressors, Rung refused violence.
Upon the eventual Cybertronian victory, Rung gladly reveled in the explosion of arts and culture that resulted, during the golden age. He began to take up hobbies, and interests- particularly in the psyche, as he noticed the war left an impression on a number of those he called friends.
Though a fairly recent science, at the time he began to study, Rung fervently believed in the power of what later came to be known as “talk therapy” to alleviate suffering. He pushed the science forward by leaps and bounds, writing papers, and assisting in studies that would come to change the course of Cybertron’s understanding of the mind.
As functionalism began to rise, Rung became nervous. He disliked the concept from the very beginning, and quietly opposed it in what ways he could… Though it seemed by the time others realized how unjust the system truly was… It was already a well established norm. Those in power, with the power to change things were comfortable, and kept in very intentional ignorance- while those who suffered were often made blind, or mute, or both, to the truth that they were equally deserving.
Rebellion began to incite, and though Rung firmly believed it was needed… He disagreed Strongly with the tactics by which it was being achieved. When the Autobots became a player on the field of politics (and eventually of battle) Rung observed, and agreed with their ideals; while, of course, still acknowledging the complexity of the situation at hand; and the justified anger of those who had long been oppressed.
As war broke out, and sides were taken, he pledged himself to the cause of the Prime. Rung deemed Optimus' judgment sound, and hoped his followers would share the mech’s intentions of limiting collateral damage, and loss of innocent life.
At this point, Rung was firmly seated in his position as a Psychotherapist; and by Primus did they need one. The stories, the symptoms Rung began to hear and observe were devastating. He did what he could to organize havens for those no longer mentally able to carry themselves to war, though… the planet was falling apart. People were falling apart. It was all mindlessly cruel, and difficult, and there was very little by way of support for mental healthcare, while physical wounds were so much more immediate, and obvious causes of mortality.
As things fell well and truly to shreds, Rung found himself sitting in field hospitals, and on ships, and in outposts on distant planets doing all he could by way of damage control for the frontliners, medics, officers, POWs- anyone. Everyone needed help. Through the carnage, he remained consistent. Rung found solace in his hobbies, in his morals, and what moments of good, and progress he saw in those he came to care for.
Even through the darkest times, it seemed Rung never lost hope. The psychotherapist discovered a will within himself to attempt to go where he was needed most. He found challenge stimulating, and so- after wrapping up, and transferring the cases of his most recent neutral ship to an apprentice; he asked to be brought to the source of the signal released to all remaining Autobots: Earth.
Personality:
Rung is reliable, gentle, friendly, kind, stubborn, and just a little bit mischievous. He is in his deepest spark, a helper, a healer, and hopefully a friend to as many as he can access. He’s calm, polite, and very patient. His wit is the sharpest weapon he possesses; and he will wield it as just that.
Likes: Progress, challenges, healing, spaceships, models, growth (especially little by little), vulnerability, people, Intended kindness, unintended kindness, animals, meaning, and life.
Dislikes: Suffering, machismo, condescension, ableism, shapism, functionalism, war, prison, bathos, Froid, deprivation, punishment, cruelty, and lying.
Strengths/Weapons:
Good doctor- Expert in the intricacies of the Cybertronian psyche, Rung knows a LOT about feelings, motivations, conflict, and recovery. He’s fascinated by the function, health and upkeep of the Cybertronian brain. He finds deep intrinsic fulfillment in helping others to slowly unpick their trauma, and can aid those in crisis with compassion, as well as expertise.
Good listener- not only does Rung pay attention, he has a microphone! Embedded in his thumb, the little device can record, and play back countless messages- it could even, theoretically, be connected to his comm line. Though, he would absolutely never defy doctor patient confidentiality outside an active, life threatening emergency.
Quick study- in a pinch, with a bit of instruction, Rung is willing to try his hand at a number of assistive jobs. He knows a bit of first aid, a little about computers, and he’s good at record keeping, documentation, and organizing things. A good fellow generally to have behind the scenes.
Quick thinker- Rung, has heard, a LOT. As an experienced surgeon would remain steely and compassionate in the face of the most grizzly wound, or chaotic triage scenario; so too, does Rung, in the face of devastating psychological and emotional trauma. From reprocessing during session, to active physical crisis, to verbal -or even physical- fights that require an intermediary; Rung is excellent at taking information in quickly and responding without being overwhelmed.
Hobbyist- Rung has a fascination with ships; particularly their construction, and history. Though he is not an engineer, nor a mechanic, he does build, and look after a series of intricate model ships, designed after near any vessel he can re-create. Because of this fascination, Rung knows the name, make, and internal layout of most Cybertronian space worthy vessels at nearly a glance. He carries tools for the models on his person- inside a hatch in his left forearm. These could theoretically be used in other instances. (Especially by someone other than himself.)
Mobility Aid- Rung possesses a foldable, motorized scooter, which, when inactive, can be mounted upon his back plating. Extended, it has one wheel in front, and two in the rear.
Linguist- Besides being able to speak and understand most documented non-cybertronian languages -thanks to universal translation tech- Rung knows a good deal of Old Cybertronian, some basic Cybertronian Sign Language, as well as conversational Chirolinguistics, morse code, and Basic.
Holoform Avatar- Often kept in his right wrist compartment, Rung has a small holoform generator. When deployed, the device can hover, and project a reflection of Rung’s psyche around it, in the image of the local sentient life-forms on a given planet. This avatar is not tactile; in that it cannot touch, hold, or interact with objects in space around it. It is but a mirage- though quite a convincing one! The generator can operate for up to 4 hours, before requiring fuel.
Weaknesses: Many.
Beanpole- Rung possesses little armor (if his plating could even be classified as such), no weapons, and is very physically disempowered. He’s weak, he’s fragile, he’s -for all intents and purposes?- utterly defenseless in combat.
Conscientious Objector- Besides possessing no weapons, Rung has no inclination -or ability- to wield one. He may physically struggle against an opponent in an altercation, though beyond this? He refuses to intentionally harm another sentient being, physically, or mentally. ((Even harmlessly sedating a patient himself during a crisis exceeds this boundary for him.))
Doctor, not medic- Rung does know some basic first-aid, and may be able to assist with a medical task as well as the next layman with instruction. He is, however, NOT a doctor of physical illness or injury, and AS a doctor otherwise, Will Not act as an authority beyond his scope of practice, out of refusal to harm.
Monoformer- Rung’s ability to transform has long since been lost, along with the function of his t-cog. He is now, and will forever be, physically disabled. He is at peace with this, and would not change it if given the option.
I’m alright, how are you- As a doctor to… most, everyone he spends time with, Rung has a tendency to distance himself from people on an interpersonal level. It’s hard (not to mention somewhat inappropriate in his opinion) to know every facet of a person’s psyche and trauma, and also be their peer, rather than their mentor or physician. Though he does find solace in his solitude, he tends to isolate himself, and is Very slow to share should he himself experience emotional difficulty.
Special Skills:
Rung does know enough about pharmacology to recognize a number of psychologically applicable Cybertronian medications, and their contraindications. He does not, however, possess the knowledge to fabricate them himself.

Sample RP:
“Hello~?”
A calm, light voice pierced the dark in sing-song, as a set of teal optics peeked around a corner. This gentle glow was shortly followed by skinny shoulders, and a set of orange servos folded upright, and together in front of his chest.
“Is anybody in there?”
A tentative step, then a second, as the wisp of a metallic figure settled his presence fully into the room. His skinny form was softly silhouetted by the yellowish light far above, in the larger room behind him.
“Ah. There you are.”
The physiotherapist came to settle resolute in the doorway. He folded his servos before him in front of his belly. Straight as a pin, aside from his helm, as it lightly cocked to the side. A gentle smile unfolded, and lit the edges of his optics.
“I’ve been asking after you all day. I was hoping we could talk...”
