CHARACTER INFO
Name: Antiquity
Age: Late 30s
Gender: Female
Species: Cybertronian
Faction: Decepticon
Original Occupation: Field Archeologist, specialized in the study of written records and documentation.
Occupation/Specialization: Archeologist, research assistant.
Appearance: Antiquity was charged with the secondary task of logistics, which often entailed carrying heavy loads to include her scientific comrades. The end result gave her height about half a foot shorter than Shockwave, and thanks to a bulkier airframe, a sturdy and built physique. The rotor blades of her alternate mode collapse and fan out across her shoulder blades, similar to that of a dragonfly, with two angled slightly upwards on each side and the fifth stretching across the bottom. The blades have telescoped inwards to save on space, sticking a hand's length out from her shoulders. The engines are flattened between her shoulders and the rotor blades in a jetpack-like configuration. Her tail rotor blades are neatly flattened alongside the outer edge of her calves/shins, split evenly between the two.
Her optics glow a rusty orange, the same color as any internal cabling and biolights that peek through metallic parts. Her face covering slides inwards from both sides to cover her entire face, offering visibility through concave triangular glass that glows the same color. All antennae and communication arrays line up in little spikes that jut out backwards from the sides of her ‘ears’, and her finger tips are pointed into little claws.
Altmode: AgustaWestland AW101 “Merlin” Helicopter, painted arid/desert colors.
Pertinent History: With the intent on building an Archeology and Research team, Antiquity was constructed cold with the purpose of analyzing historical documentation and archives. As part of this process, each member of the team was assigned a primary research role with a secondary supporting role for the execution of their excavations. Antiquity, already nose in the books, was appointed as ‘site manager’ and anything that was not research specific fell to her; the logistics of material requirements and movement, physical transport, setting up temporary facilities, not to mention identification, recording, and archiving artifacts. While each of them were given a means of self-defense (in case things got hairy in the outermost regions of space), it was an unspoken rule that any defensive precautions would also fall to Antiquity… mostly due to her larger size being much more effective as a deterrent in comparison to the others.
Antiquity and her team of 4 would set out to locate, investigate, and discover anything that would be considered of historical interest. They researched together for years, and more often than not, to different areas across the stars; chasing after remnants of space bridges and items of old, some findings even going so far as to make it in the Rare Items Locker. Each had their own niche area, and Antiquity found herself surrounded by old scripture, documents, and ancient symbols etched into walls and tiny scraps of metal. Translating and identifying the subtle changes of words or the function of words helped date and identify cultures in different pieces. She fell in love with finding gaps in the story to determine the truth; what might be a simple ‘no souls left on board’ in a ship’s log could be cross referenced with messages to create a more accurate picture and tell the proper story.
Antiquity saw these items discovered, packaged, and handed over to Curators of various sorts. Yet she was always deemed a field researcher, a tool, a means for others to achieve wealth and glory for not once did the Curators or Archivists provide any credit to herself or her peers. It must have been deep rooted in their programming, and the dismissive laughter as they asked about the next expedition plan just frustrated her more. She would return, archive the data accordingly, and leave the Curators and fellow Archivists happy and cheery and clean behind her as she was sent out yet again. Antiquity was disappointed, which quickly grew to anger as she realized there was no changing her fate. There was nothing different in her future, and she would have no reprieve from the constant cycle.
In retaliation, Antiquity slowly and carefully started sabotaging various research expeditions so that the criminals and black market thieves of the world would come and steal from them. Once tipped off and after a successful bounty, the pirates would link up with Antiquity who would determine their value. It turns out she had a knack for identifying people with vintage tastes, and her networking through backdoor dealings grew to the point where she had a steady catalog of private collectors she could recommend. She leaned on her logistics background and free access to shipping routes and funding leached from their expeditions to make these deals, even going so far as to sometimes smuggling goods herself.
Whispers spread from neighboring cities that grew into truths as talks of an equal and free Cybertron changed from words to actions. Antiquity agreed that a change was needed. War broke out a few weeks after her team departed for another dig. It was a fruitful adventure that not only answered questions but suggested something greater, yet just beyond their current reach. Upon returning to orbit their ship was caught in a crossfire and crashed to the surface. No one else moved from the wreckage when Antiquity awoke, and her primary purpose took over. Preserve the findings. They might have been still alive, they might have been in the process of dying… but either way Antiquity yanked the databanks from her comrades and fled the scene.
Her vision and beliefs did not necessarily align well with the Autobots, and so she was swept under the wing of the Decepticons. As wartime occupations shifted, her logistics side was drawn to the forefront as she was relied upon for the movement of supplies and, her personal favorite, personnel transport of the smaller and more reconnaissance types. Unfortunately with battle often came the spoils of war, and the conflict drove Antiquity to dedicate herself as much as possible to the preservation of history and artifacts. She used the break in between missions to slip into homes, archives, and buildings of various nature to steal anything that could be of value historically (letters, holorecordings, art, mission intelligence, artifacts). She became a treasure hunter, a glorified war looter or grave robber, as she stole as much as she could and scattered them across the universe in both caches and the hands of collectors alike.
Cybertron was destroyed and Antiquity had limited purpose left as much of what she could get her hands on had been emptied, damaged, or lost as predicted. Antiquity had not only cataloged names and places, but each item that had been transferred since she started to include before the war. It was time to start finding an alternative location for a new archive with the full intent on stealing everything back. She left Cybertron, chasing away on ships with the intent on collecting her stashes, but was eventually recalled to Earth. With Megatron having left and like many others, Antiquity made her way down to Earth’s surface. There she set to exploring, logging more information and cross referencing with data of the past. Promising. What wasn’t so promising was falling victim to a cave collapse, pinned under a pile of rock with the few possessions she did have and sliding into stasis lock until rescue would come.
Personality: Antiquity is quick thinking, sharp tongued, and just a little sassy. She makes her opinion known with a strong sense of trust in her decision making and abilities. Antiquity is strong willed, easily navigating challenges and unknown spaces with great interest and curiosity; a drive and hunger for knowledge that makes her greedy. She absorbs information quickly and would methodically analyze options to come up with the strongest plan of action, to include secondary and tertiary options fully knowing that plans never survive first contact.
While collected and analytical most of the time, Antiquity is stubborn and easily irritated. She has a particular way of doing business, meticulous and organized, and deviation outside of those parameters was considered incredibly annoying. She pushes and prioritizes her vision without sometimes considering the input of others, oftentimes leading to trampling feelings especially in emotionally charged situations. She can be impatient, forgetting that others think and react differently and sometimes this ‘other way of thinking’ was misinterpreted as stupidity or disinterest. She can find the company of others extremely frustrating when she is trying to focus, and gravitates toward quiet places where she can think.
Likes: Reading, literature, classical music, the ‘smell’ of old things (like books, dust, damp air - the readings make her smile, like it shows good luck), old things in general, organized spaces, games that require memory or counting, flying through valleys.
Dislikes: Being called ‘Anti’ / ‘Aunty’, being interrupted or disturbed (if she knows someone isn’t paying attention, she purposefully cuts her sentences short to avoid it happening), improper lighting, being called a thief (she didn’t steal, she just liberated knowledge), breaking/damage to anything historical.
Strengths/Weapons.
A Helicopter with Power: Being a larger, utility helicopter, Antiquity can carry heavy loads both internally and externally to the airframe. More specifically, upwards of 3050 kg/6724 lbs (internally) and 5520 kg/12 169 lbs (externally).
Motionless Flight: Antiquity can hover, a trait that extends from her alternate to her root mode. Using the engines under the ‘wings’, she can generate enough downdraft to float off the ground, and with enough power, give a little boost to fly vertically up to double her height. This hovering in combination with steady hands is great for delicate or intricate work, and makes it difficult to push her over. If careful, she can use the downdraft and generated winds to clear sand or light debris away from underneath her. She can hover for a maximum of 10 minutes at a time with a 3 minute recharge. Rarely does she use the full amount of time... at that point it is far more efficient to use alt mode.
Machine Gun: Armed with the GAU-21, this .50 cal (12.7x99 mm) machine gun is able to reach rates of fire up to 1 100 rounds per minute. With an effective range of 1800 metres, it can puncture light armor and scuff medium. In alt mode the weapon is mounted in the door, and while in root mode, rests against Antiquity’s left forearm.
Bombs Away?: In alt mode, she has the ability to carry up to four homing torpedoes or depth charges depending on the mission at hand. She has never used any previously, and the type and range depend on what is issued to her.
Scanner: Her face covering is less so a battle mask and more so an in depth scanner. Its zoom feature and connection to her optics can greatly assist in locating distinct patterns or obscurities in an environment. Originally tailored to identifying tiny symbols, glyphs, or markings in various objects from walls to tiny artifacts, it has expanded to other uses such as makeshift binoculars thanks to the war. It has the ability to record video and take photos, transferring them to a datapad for analysis later.
Observant: Antiquity is incredibly observant with great attention to detail. She has an eye for finding things that do not belong.
Creativity: Logistics is often making things work with what you got and utilizing the resources and connections you have to sustain a project. Antiquity is creative in finding and resourcing solutions, quickly able to react when the situation changes or does not go accordingly to plan. Creativity is also something necessary in her programming to determine the use and functionality of artifacts and deciphering ancient texts or codes.
Weaknesses.
Limited Armor: The less that a chassis weighed, the larger the payload one could carry. Hence why Antiquity only has light armor and is thus susceptible to armor penetrating rounds or weapons. While she can fly with a few bullet holes, any severe damage to her engines or rotors can cause catastrophic results and immediate loss of flight.
Machine Gun: Despite the punch it can provide, the gun must be fired in smaller bursts else risk overheating the barrel (cook off rounds, lose accuracy, increased chance of jamming). Preservation of ammunition is key until resupply, as Antiquity is limited with what she decided to carry at a given time. Machine guns are not precision weapons, more suppressive in effect, and are far from ideal in scenarios that require stealth.
A Heavy Burden: Carrying heavy loads will increase fuel consumption, and reduce Antiquity’s flying altitude and speed.
All Bark, No Bite: Antiquity has never been enthusiastic about having to use weapons. She knows enough in the art of combat to scrape by and would much rather keep it that way. Her days are far better spent in books than in combat training, and should she be injured there would be no way of saving all the work she had put into her research.
Curiosity Killed the Cat: Trying to find answers or should she be on a roll with whatever task Antiquity is working on, she will not stop until there is a physical means to stop her; a wall, the end of a text, etc. It has happened many times where she continues to near dangerous levels of low power. While she takes precautions and runs a quick analysis of the space, she immediately takes to zeroing into her task with little care for distractions.
Haunted: For fear of losing their research and after taking the drives from her fallen comrades, Antiquity immediately tried to plug herself in to consume the data they knew. This panicked and quick data transfer backfired and led to an information bleed of memories and knowledge that she didn’t need. While quick to put a stop to it, she wasn’t overly successful and now sometimes gets flickers of memories or visions of things that are not hers, most commonly seen as brief alterations like wrong faces or hallucinations and out of body experiences. This increases with fatigue and low power, leaving her confused or disoriented.
Protective: Nothing matters more than the discovery and preservation of history, more so of their own people but quickly expanding to other races and planets. She is incredibly overprotective, getting downright snarky and aggressive when artifacts or her research are in jeopardy. Her datapad and external storage drives are the most precious possession she owns, and she’d risk her spark to keep it out of other people’s hands.
Special Skills:
Parlez-vous Français?: While she has dabbled in the research of ancient historical archives, linguistics and literature were her specialty. She has a knack for being able to read and speak dead languages like ancient Cybertronian as if it were her first language. She often considers deciphering codes and languages a game.
Multitasker Extraordinaire: She can focus on multiple different things at the same time, like tracing symbols while searching multiple databases concurrently. Far too many tabs open at once.
Book Smart: Antiquity has a solid and reliable memory and can remember documents in detail. She can read and absorb information quickly, with great retention and recall. Being able to find discrepancies between documents that stretch millions of texts is a breeze, and she can easily pick out where she remembered reading about it.
Takes Two to Tango: Early Earth research has shown that most human helicopters require two to operate, thus Antiquity made sure she could create two. They are primitive holoform pilots to assist solely with camouflage. They are restricted to cockpit movements, flicking imaginary switches or getting up to move toward the cabin only to disappear. It makes her far less suspicious in more populated areas.
Extra Info:
Friends in Low Places: Given her black market involvement, Antiquity has quite a few contacts with an eye for antiques or information. She is a reliable source for confirming an object or document’s value and identifying fakes from originals.
Soft Paws: While they may look like it at a glance, Antiquity’s fingertips are not sharp. While they may scratch a bit of paint, they were used for clearing dirt or grime from grooves or prying apart layers of material to get a better look at what may lie beneath. They’re good for leverage or detail work, but not as an effective weapon.
World-Renowned or Not?: She has no idea if anyone in her team was actually recognized or not. Their research and discoveries might have been extremely well documented and dedicated in their honor. Antiquity just might not have ever seen it. Who knows?
No Peeking: Antiquity has manually tried and removed some of the mixed memories once they occur or when she can identify them. It would be faster if she let someone else do it, but doesn’t trust anyone else to snoop through her mind and research without altering truths. She waits for one to happen, and then tries to chase down the code with fair success rates (not a doctor after all).
Personal Library: Antiquity stole anything and everything she could get her claws on. While the artifacts were sold away (after thorough investigation, of course), the documentations and texts would stay with her for significantly longer. Sometimes she made copies, or excerpts to store for later analysis. This expanded library has given her great insight into ancient history and worlds. Having learned from her previous mistake with the databank memory bleeding, she chose to hold her own personal ‘library’ in small data chips that she can refer to.
