Name: Breakdown
Age (or human equivalent): ~30
Gender (or human equivalent): mech/male
Species: Cybertronian
Faction: Decepticon
Occupation/Specialization: Decepticon heavy frontliner and medical assistant
Appearance/Altmode: He’s big, blue, and boxy -- no aesthetics to speak of besides a rare red face and bright yellow optics. Originally built for military prowess, he’s one of the larger standard model frames, heavily armored. He has the large, four-digit hands of a laborer that aren't much use for intricate work, an ability he doesn't usually miss. He was extensively modded to retrofit him as a limb of a gestalt, and thus technically has two alt modes. His vehicle alt is a military vehicle similar to a humvee.
History: Sparked as an adult into the Prime's military before the Great War as a frontline grunt, Breakdown was a young military mech in every sense. He liked fighting, he liked his unit, he liked the excitement. So when the military told him he'd been selected as part of a new experimental fighting force, some kind of special ops, he was IN. Some extensive rewiring surgery and a sparkbond later, and he found himself as a Stunticon: part of a gestalt of grounder models in the Prime's state army based out of Iacon. Not that he was ever actually in Iacon for any length of time. For vorns, he spent most of his time at various bases and outposts around Cybertronian space before being stationed in a colony on the Cybertronian front.
While the Stunticons were there, that site was attacked, destroying it and most of its inhabitants. Separated from the rest of his gestalt, Breakdown thought himself the only Stunticon to survive. He was badly damaged, both in frame and in coding from a now-broken sparkbond. For political reasons that Breakdown was only vaguely aware of at the time, the military sent no responders to the scene, and Breakdown figured himself left for dead. Enter Knock Out: a fellow survivor who had been part of his initial surgical team, and had been a medic attached to their unit. Knock Out was one of the few mechs who knew enough about Breakdown's condition to repair him, and, for reasons Breakdown hasn't entirely pinned down, did.
In the aftermath, even Breakdown could figure it out. As living proof of the under-the-table, now-defunct gestalt program, the Cybertronian ruling elite wanted Breakdown and Knock Out out of the way. Having nowhere else to go, and having taken a liking to him, Breakdown followed Knock Out back to Cybertron and from there, into the Wreckers. While they were tracked down, the brass thought nothing of it. Known for their bravery and skill in battle, the Wreckers were NOT recognized for their long lifespans. Breakdown was content to stay there as long as he did, which was until growing political disagreements led Bulkhead to join Optimus Prime, and Breakdown and Knock Out to join Megatron. He would find the Decepticons quite comfortable, and there he would remain until the war made its way to Earth.
In time, Knock Out trained Breakdown to be his medical assistant, when he wasn't out doing his primary function on the front lines. It was a job he’d honestly never thought he’d have -- even moreso than Knock Out, he’s better at breaking them than fixing them -- but he’s trainable, and he turned out pretty good at it if he does say so himself.
Personality: Sparked a military mech and being part of both the insular Stunticons and the even more insular Wreckers, he has been indoctrinated with unit cohesion, morale, and us vs. them rhetoric all his life. It's why he respects and obeys his leader Megatron and Megatron's most loyal followers, though he doesn't often agree with or like them (and he is often intimidated enough by them to want to stay on their good side). It's one reason why he respects and stays with Knock Out, in whose best interest it would've been to abandon Breakdown and go off by himself at the time of the base massacre and ensuing manhunt. It's why he doesn't respect Bulkhead after he left the Wreckers to join Optimus. Although Breakdown himself left the Wreckers to join the Decepticons shortly after, he doesn't consider this hypocritical -- because by then the unit had been compromised, and his decision was at Knock Out's behest.
As a lower class mech who had been mistreated by the former Prime's regime, Breakdown fell on board with Megatronus' populist cause. As that cause got lost, he continued to fight for Megatron's changing ideals, out of loyalty, the dislike of Autobots he'd developed, and belief that the Decepticons were still the winning side -- which, like Knock Out, is somewhere he wants to be.
Quick to anger at a real or perceived slight, quick to fight on orders or just because he likes to, he has committed increasingly violent atrocities at each stage of his life without remorse. In this sense, he fits right into the Decepticons. However, he tries to avoid their infighting and does not have any aspirations to power like some of the others, instead content to follow Knock Out as he climbs the ladder. His single greatest loyalty lies neither with Megatron, nor the Decepticon cause, but with Knock Out. For now, he is content, as he sees no reason to choose.
He can get along decently well with most others, even including Starscream and Airachnid (some of the time). As a former military grunt himself, he can find things to talk about with the Decepticon rank and file and mining crews, and likes to do so -- he'd rather do so than have to speak to his superiors. He won't necessarily admit to it, but he doesn't mind some of the Autobots, either.
Likes: Fighting. Doing things, particularly useful things. Satisfying whatever's left of his gestalt coding. Knock Out.
Dislikes: A lot of individuals: Bulkhead and Wheeljack, these days. Airachnid. MECH. Feeling helpless. Running away (though he does it often enough, lately).
Strengths/Weapons: (This is where you tell us how you are going to injure/get a hit on/kill others)
He’s big: One of the bigger standard frames out there, he strikes a good balance between maneuverability and practicality, and sheer mass and presence on the battlefield.
His hammer: His weapon of choice: close-range, blunt, capable of bashing engines in. And with it...
Say uncle: He's got brute strength, and some extensive military training and experience to back it up. Not too many mechs could get him on the ground, and fewer still could keep him there for any length of time.
Weaknesses: (This is where you tell us how OTHERS might injure/get a hit on/kill YOU. Personality flaws are good, but please include some structural flaws as well.)
Wreck n' rule: ...tends to be the extent of his battle tactics. He's good enough at being part of a strategy when ordered to, but on most occasions -- solo energon scouting missions, ambushes, anything unplanned -- he defaults to rushing in and hitting things.
Up close and personal: He has exactly one long-range weapon, a rocket launcher mounted to his shoulder/top of his vehicle mode. It’s old, it’s awkwardly placed, the ammo’s limited, and he’s a decent aim but not great. He’s thought about upgrading, but hasn’t done it yet, and even if he does his hammer will always be his first choice. So he’s at a serious disadvantage when fighting anyone who is proficient with guns and doesn't let him get up in their face.
Stuck on the ground: He’s one of the few Decepticons with a ground model alt. This would be unfortunate if he ever fought against his fellow Decepticons, but it also makes retreat from the Autobots harder than it is for fliers.
Special skills (that are not weapon related): He has a variety of basic medical skills, including a few that are actually useful in the field. It’s all first aid, but he can keep mechs alive until Knock Out gets to them. In the medbay he mostly does assistant’s work -- cleaning, handing Knock Out tools, and simple repair jobs like buffing out a scratch -- but he’s quite capable at it.
He can combine with his fellow Stunticons to form Menasor, but that's been off the table for millions of years.
Extra Info: He thinks he’s funny but he really, really isn’t. His idea of humor mostly consists of bad puns. When he’s around Bulkhead, it only gets worse. Over time it’s been rubbing off on Knock Out, too, though Breakdown’s never sure if he’s just teasing him or not.
Sample RP (only for first accepted characters):
It was stupid how nervous Breakdown felt. Knock Out wasn't going to say no. Would he?
Breakdown found himself hesitating, standing in the middle of the hall leading to the med bay. He had it all planned out, too. He had his reasons ready to go and had been practicing them. There was a lot less fighting than he expected when they first joined Megatron, so he needed another job. It'd make him more useful. It'd mean less work for Knock Out so he could focus on the more important things that need a real medic. If he trained an assistant, his whole med bay would run a lot smoother, in Breakdown's opinion. And Breakdown could be that assistant.
He'd doubted it too when the idea first came to him. But once he got around to thinking about it... why not him? He'd been pretty good at following orders back in the military. He never officially trained for anything technical, but he'd had to learn himself all over again after he joined the Stunticons. He could learn this, too.
So, reasons ready, he stepped into the main room of the med bay. Knock Out was there, standing off to the side, working on a data pad. He didn't look too busy. It was as good a time as any. Breakdown couldn't couldn't lose his resolve now.
"Knock Out, I had an idea."
