Character Info
Name: Cryotope
Age: Human equivalent would be 48 - 50
Gender: Male
Species: Cybertronian
Faction: Decepticons
Occupation/Specialization: Marksman/sniper. Former physicist.
Appearance/Altmode: Cryotope is a tall robot, standing between Starscream and Megatron's height. His alternate mode gives him an angular build that lacks the sleekness of most Seekers. His frame hearkens back to an older age, almost retro-futuristic in appearance. Between the wings and fins on his back are two cylindrical power cells, blue and laced with a hexagonal mesh for strength. His paint scheme is predominantly a dull black and grey, with blue accents. He transforms into an F-117A Nighthawk.
History: Cryotope was constructed during the Golden Age. His original function was that of a scientist, specializing in quantum physics, with an aerial mode that allowed him to operate within the cold depths of space. He was well-respected throughout the scientific community for both his brilliant mind and his calm, patient manner. He contributed significantly to the research that produced the space bridge technology; if his name is remembered at all during modern times it is usually in connection to the development of Cybertron's space bridges.
During the caste era he questioned the logic of the repressive and stagnant Cybertron social hierarchy, despite hailing from the high ranking Science Caste himself. A pacifist, when the war began Cryotope wanted nothing to do with it. He evacuated from the planet, retreating to one of the colonies to continue his work in peace. He was not seen after that for millions of years.
Only at the end of the war would he unexpectedly resurface again - as a Decepticon. The respected scientist was gone, cast aside and replaced by an impassive mech harbouring a bitter animosity towards the Autobots. Now Cryotope has only one objective: the surgical extermination of every Autobot that survived the Exodus. He cares little for anything beyond it, including his own survival. Though this single-minded fixation has often caused his fellow Decepticons to question his loyalty to their cause, it cannot be denied that he serves it with quiet obedience.
Whatever incident - whatever personal tragedy - transformed him from a scientist into a heartless villain motivated entirely by revenge is a mystery.
Personality: Cold and unemotional, but civil. Calm, precise, and patient. An implacable figure, unmoved by fear or desire. Intensely focused. In the execution of personal vengeance he is ruthless. Obstacles in his path are removed without pity or remorse - not out of cruelty, but simply because they obstruct him in his task. He has no quarrel with those who do not interfere with him. Melancholic at times, possessed by a caustic hatred at others.
Likes: Isolation. Literature. Space. And little else.
Dislikes: The Autobots. Emotionalism. Decepticon power struggles. Distractions.
Strengths: Well-educated and intelligent. A critical thinker. Analytical. Pragmatic. Equipped with sophisticated long-range targeting systems. Surprisingly strong - if he should get a hold of an enemy he can inflict crushing damage with his hands alone. Originally designed to work in space, his robot mode is capable of withstanding extreme temperatures and atmospheric conditions.
In combat, Cryotope's greatest strength is his primary and only weapon: an integrated high velocity, high penetration charged-particle beam gun. This dreadful weapon was developed by Cryotope himself for use within the atmosphere and is defined by its tremendous precision and lethality. At high settings the beam is capable of carving into most known substances with little collateral destruction to surrounding structures, much like a large-scale surgical laser. At low settings it will damage the internal components of its target or even explode it by transferring a massive amount of energy into whatever it strikes. It is capable of firing over very great distances and from high altitudes, giving Cryotope the potential to serve a fearsome role as both a frontline marksman and sub-orbital sniper.
As a jet, Cryotope excels at stealth and evasion. The surfaces and edge profiles of his F-117A mode are optimized to reflect enemy radar away from himself. Radar absorbing materials also help to reduce his radar cross-section to roughly 10 and 100 square cm, or about the size of a small bird, making him nearly invisible to enemy air defenses. The Nighthawk's engine exhaust area is wide and flat, with the air intakes on both sides of the fuselage covered by gratings coated with radar absorbent material. It's two large tail fins lean outwards, obstructing infrared and radar returns of the engine exhaust area.
Weaknesses: As a former scientist he has no hand-to-hand combat or defensive capabilities whatsoever. He is an awkward melee fighter, being neither very fast or agile in either mode. He must rely upon his intelligence and the devastating accuracy and firepower of his beam gun for offensive strikes. The beam gun has its own flaws: short-ranged shots require an eight second recharge period before it can be fired again. Due to the high power consumption required to fire the weapon over great distances or from high altitudes the recharge period for such shots is even longer: anywhere from four to twenty minutes at its maximum operational ceiling of fifty-thousand feet must pass before it is fully charged again. Cryotope is left defenseless during these periods and open to attack.
As a jet he is completely unarmed. Rain will weaken the coating of his alternate mode by casting a reflective haze around it, thus increasing his cross-section. When he is in his robot mode he no longer has the protection of the F-117A’s shape to provide natural radar deflection. Because he can only fire his beam gun as a robot he is incapable of hiding from radar while on the offensive.
Ultimately, it is the beam gun itself that is Cryotope's most fatal weakness. As an integrated weapon it draws power in part from the vulnerable power cells on his back as well as from his his own internal reserves. Prolonged firing wears him down considerably. Worse still, the extent of its power consumption is such that it places a terrible drain on his spark. At the gun's current rate of usage Cryotope will grey-out and die within a decade. Nihilistically committed to revenge, he is indifferent to his fate.
Special skills: One of the surviving authorities on space bridge science and technology.
