As Prime’s frustrated gaze fell upon Backbeat, the clawed Decepticon seemed to ignore the vitriol externally. Internally, Backbeat was actively resisting the urge for a quiet chuckle. While Prime maintained the thin veneer of stoicism, Backbeat could see the Autobot leader was slowly losing his patience. The Decepticon’s clawed hands continued to occasionally rotate in the rotor hubs that made his forearms. It was an unconscious tick Backbeat barely noticed himself, which in situations like this could be one of the most dangerous weapons that can be unleashed.
Attention: the act or state of applying the mind to something. In negotiations, one’s full attention is required to prevent being put at a disadvantage. A distraction can be a deadly obstacle in the world of bartering and deal making. Despite not knowing the exact reason, Backbeat did notice seemingly Prime’s split attention. The reason for this undue, but rather ego boosting, attention eluded the logistics specialist. He did, however, feel it was rather nice to be seen as important or threatening enough to keep an optic on. In truth however, it was the fidgeting of his arm/rotor assembly that drew brief windows of the Autobot Leader’s attention.
Internally, despite being a passive participant, Backbeat was in his element. While the words always seemed to change, the music remained the same in this old song and dance. Starscream, in his opinion, had the advantage in negotiations so long as his opening offer remained reasonable. Prime letting Starscream dictate opening terms was an interesting move. One that, as Backbeat figured, was the signal that Optimus wanted to confirm what Starscream had to trade before he made any moves himself. It’s a shrewd strategy, one befitting the Autobot commander. But to Backbeat, it was a strategy better employed from a position of strength.
Putting that speculation aside, Backbeat received the message from Starkrieger and internally rolled his optics. The message was just “Stop”. Being that the fidgeting of his claws was not a conscious effort on Backbeat’s part, he was a bit confused as to what his erstwhile accomplice was getting at with such a vague message. He thought for a second, before radioing back a quick and quiet “stop what?” on the secure frequency.
