The look of confusion during that momentary pause was the first sign that maybe there had been a slight misunderstanding. He’d never really spoken to anyone about the situation before, nor had he ever followed up with Optimus or Raf - and it was only now that he realized just how much it was actually eating at him. He’d jumped to the absolute worst possible conclusion without thinking, taking Carbine at his word, almost, as if Raf was now a liability to be kept around at all.
Keeping his pace slow, his shoulders would sag just slightly as the other mech clarified what he’d meant. Of course he’d meant that, why wouldn’t he?
--Ah…-- one servo would move to sheepishly rub at the back of his neck, finally turning his attention to the other mech.
--Sorry… Guess I’m just on edge about the whole thing. Assuming the worst.--
From a practical standpoint and to those who cared very little about the human children, they were an extra risk to keep around. They could be picked up and taken with ease, used as bargaining chips - and Raf had proven that they only had to put on a smile and act nice, and…
Shaking his helm, he’d lower his servo - squared fingers flexing a moment before curling into fists. Even if this message - whatever it was - was important enough to pass on, even if it changed everything going forward? It wasn’t worth Raf being put into the situation to begin with. What if the whole thing was a setup? It wasn’t hard to gain Raf’s trust, a second meeting with malicious intent could be arranged and he’d fall right into the trap based on his first experience with Dart.
--Hopefully there wont be a next time. Or if there is, hopefully Raf knows better than to humor her with conversation. I just… I wish I could watch out for him all the time, y’know? This was on a school trip, so I wasn’t even close.--
That may have been the worst part. If something had happened, there would’ve been no way of knowing, at least not until it was far too late.
Venting out a sigh, he would shake his helm.
--Ugh, sorry, I didn’t mean to ruin this outing by being all depressing and overthinking stuff.-- a gentle whir paired with his words as his optics narrowed into a frown, though his servos would relax as he continued on.
--Anything you wanna talk about?-- a quick attempt at a change of topic. This was Carbine’s little adventure after all, with Bee technically just along for the ride. The other mech had been trapped in his room for a while with nothing but his thoughts (and Bolo!) so maybe there was stuff he wanted to chat about.
