"Cybertron Speed Measurements. Everything is a measurement. The systems don't work like how yours do here on Earth... so neither are similar, really." Blurr said as he thought about the question. Perhaps there might be a relation with more advanced science behind it or whatever.
Cassandra was not wrong to doubt that gut feeling of Blurr possibly breaking speed limits. Sure, he was not likely to do it, however being susceptible to peer pressure was still possible. Or if he was trying to show off, it could make him wanna pull off a small stunt or two... however he would never go over a certain limit. He wasn't stupidly reckless, even if he was a Wrecker.
"I don't know about signing up, it would be pretty unfair to your human race to be put up against an off-planet legend like me." He chuckled jokingly with a tiny but of truth laced into the meaning. "I'd love to get in and see one in person though. I'm interested to see how well you humans can drive in a race considering your kind manages to crash a vehicles every day. Part of me thinks your races are mighty nasty to watch. I still can see the thrill in it though, which is why I wanna see at least one."
And so it was that Autobot and civilian made their way out of Omega Outpost One, hitting the breezy stretch of road to Las Vegas. It was neither a long nor an interesting drive, but along the way, Cassandra would quiz Blurr on various parts of his past. His races, Cybertron's races, the awards, the fame, and much more would come up in conversation, the woman determined to learn everything she could from the ex-racer. It seemed no detail was too trivial nor fact too obscure for her hungry mind.
Traffic began to thicken the closer they came to Vegas. It was the afternoon, and people were beginning to either get off work or drive in for a later shift. There was also the constant onslaught of tourists flocking to the desert town, looking to win their fortunes or enjoy the sights of the neon-lit city. Heat shimmered off the road, the sun scorching the asphalt and nearby sands. Butch was glad she wasn't hitch-hiking in this heat, as it would've been tough even for her to make the walk.
"...And that should be the edge of Vegas up ahead," she finished her latest ramble with, leaning against Blurr's passenger door. Her arm propped up her chin as her elbow rested against the windowsill. "There should be a place to turn off here so we don't get caught up in the Strip's traffic. It's only a Walmart run we're looking into. That is, unless you'd like to take a peek at some of the sights?"
Traffic would be murder, but it couldn't hurt to take a quick peek and show Blurr a couple of things, right? It would be a fun exchange of information and culture, after she had asked him so many questions about his life.
Blurr had to slow down considerably to match the speed of traffic and he drove rather cautiously. he had already began to see the road rage around him, cars pulling out in front of each other and merging in without their turn signals. It honestly annoyed the speedster, human drivers were definitely unpredictable and careless.
he wish he could focus purely on the horizon where large buildings loomed over the roads. It was actually a lot to take in, such detail to the structures around was surprising. Humans were pretty amazing if they created all of this, despite their size and fragile make up.
"Are you kidding? You can't take me here and not show me at least some of he sights! If we have time of course, I'd so be willing to walk around before or after this Whall Mart run!" Blurr said, suddenly drifting over into the left lane and turning down a different street once inside the city limits, hoping to avoid most of the heavy traffic.
"Assuming that you've come here a lot, I'm sure you know some of the flashiest places to go."
Blurr pulled off the street inside a small parking lot not far from this Whall Mart Cassandra was talking about.
"I could take us directly to our location, or we can get out and walk, your choice." the speedster suggested.

The two were on the main thoroughfare that led through Vegas through an artery. Traffic wasn't slow like it would be on the Strip, but there was still more brake-checking, honking, and cutting-off than what Butch wanted to see. Despite this, she noticed that Blurr's handling of traffic was impeccable, with minute stops and starts that flowed back into driving as droplets did to a stream. Her eyebrows rose, but she said nothing about the handling. She had a feeling it took a degree of concentration in order to maneuver so smoothly through the cars honking at them.
As they turned onto a street off that precious artery into the city, Butch examined their surroundings. She vaguely recognized the street as leading to a couple of restaurants that sat behind the nearest Walmart. Traffic would be a little thick around the store, but nothing that Blurr couldn't handle. At his request to visit the Strip, Butch smiled a tired little smile and said, "Not often, but everyone knows the Strip. It's why Vegas is the jewel of the Mojave Desert. What we don't know about we can find out after we make this run. Traffic's going to be murder, though."
The parking lot Blurr chose was directly behind the Walmart, thankfully enough. There was already a swarm of cars coming to and fro from the store's own lot, so Butch could see why he picked something more quiet. "We can walk, it's just over there," she said, reaching to open her door. "Do you have a holoform you can use to go inside the store with me? I can show you around it, if you'd like."
Yes, Blurr quite in fact did have a holoform. He has only ever used once or twice... he couldn't even remember what for exactly. Since he arrived on Earth, it had been reprogrammed to give him a human appearance simply for precautions and the perfect opportunity to use it has now just presented itself.
Using a holoform was something Blurr hasn't grown comfortable to yet. What sort of off set him the most about it was the numbing-- almost, 'sub conscious' state his real self fell into. All of his focus had to remain on his holoform, especially in a scenario such as this, one slip up and he'd be in big trouble. Despite that looming discipline nagging at him in the back of his mind, he was willing to shoot the shot and try it out.
As Cassandra was about to allow herself out of the passenger side of Blurr's ALT, a gentleman simply seemed to just appear in the driver seat... and based off of his features alone, it was clear that this was Blurr's holoform.
He looked like a young trendy guy with sharp facial features and ice colored eyes. His hair was slicked back and blue with an almost slightly wind blown style to it. He had a slender and moderately fit body shape that reflected one of a professional runner. Blurr's clothing style was rather interesting... it made him look classy but partially punk-like. He wore a black button up long sleeved shirt as a denim cyan blue vest hung open over the shirt and ended about midway down his torso. Black skinny jeans with blue stripes down the outside seams completed the style and complementing the look was a grey belt and black converse. His charming iconic grin was plastered on his face as he casted a side look towards Cassandra.
"Of course I do. I went through all the trouble trying to design it. Despite looking like an organic, I got to say, your species tends to have a lot of styles and designs. I did very minimal research to find something I could settle with but I honestly cant complain. I'm very surprised to see so many styles." The speedster stated, sticking his hand out in front of himself to examine it mid way through his comment.
"Lets go, I want to see what this place is like through the 'human eyes'" he hummeed, opening his door and stepping outside, taking in the rather dull sights around them. This lot didn't seem to have too much to it, but of course this wasn't what he was here to see. Blurr was anticipating what he'd discover on their walk towards this Whall Mart.

Cassandra let out a low whistle as she examined his holoform. "Looking sharp," she told Blurr. "You look just like one of the rich guys that have a car like yours. You'll fit right in in Vegas." He'd stand out in a crowd, but his sleek vehicle form already did in a dusty parking lot like the one they were in. Butch was already concocting a cover story in her head if someone starting asking too many questions.
"Before we go in," Butch said, "it probably would help if you had something I could call you by in the store." Why she didn't discuss this earlier was beyond her. It probably had something to do with the bevy of questions she had about Cybertron. Very rarely did the cleaner's logic get brushed aside, but her curiosity was prone to doing that. "How about...Barry? Barry Lorn. That sounds close enough to Blurr for you to remember, I think. And you look like a Barry, to me."
Once Blurr had given his input, Butch would turn and lead the way towards the Walmart parking lot. A strip of a sidewalk led up to a fenced-in area that separated the store grounds from the rest of Vegas. Butch would go around this part, approaching a vast lot full of cars and busy shoppers going to and fro. The white-and-orange logo of the store loomed high on the building's front face.
Now that had felt strange, obtaining a Human name. Blurr struggled with human names to begin with and now suddenly he had to remember what the hell his was?
"B-Uh... Bar- ry- what? You think I can remember that?" Blurr expressed in surprise. The sudden process of springing a new name onto him took him by surprise, however she was right. He did need a cover name.
The speedster let out a slightly reluctant growl and then sighed, "Fine,fineI'lldoit-" He muttered rubbing his temple. Blurr replayed the name Cassandra had given him in his head over and over and tried to work out the name on his on tongue as they walked towards the Whall Mart.
"Bar-ry. Barrey. Barry- How in he name of Primus do I even look like a Barry? I don't even understand how you made that connection." Blurr questioned as he glanced over to the human female, his eyebrows knitted upwards in slight frustration. This was hard. "I can't even remember the other name you just told me-- woahhh is this the Whall mart?" the speedster questioned as they approached the building. The name remembering seemed to just completely blow over his head. His eyes widened and his jaw dropped ever so slightly. "This is... so much bigger than what I was imagining! And this place is full of human food? That's actually insane! How much do you guys consume?!"

"If you can't, I can always say 'The Blur' is your nickname, since you move so fast," said she. "You have the look of a runner and your car is speedy. It works."
He grumbled he'd do it, and Butch felt a little bad. She hadn't meant to impose something on him, but she meant well with her idea. Blurr was unfamiliar with humanity, and he had to remain undercover for his safety and that of the Autobots'. His appearance was already noticeable enough (though it could be explained away), and Butch didn't want him to accidentally out himself as a robot on what was supposed to be a nice trip.
"I don't know. You just look like one," Butch said with a shrug. "If you don't like it, we can pick something else." Before she could say more, the subject abruptly shifted as Blurr stood in awe of the Walmart. She smiled a little at his enthusiasm and expression, reminded of how she felt when she stood in the company of his people.
"Well, the average human eats between two-thousand and two-thousand five hundred calories a day," Butch explained, "and there are over three-hundred and thirty million people in the country alone. If everyone ate well, and if I were to pick a median number, that would mean.... About.... Over seven-hundred million calories consumed each day by the US. A tank of gas is estimated at thirty-one thousand calories, so that would be almost twenty-four thousand cars' equivalent fueled each day in calories alone."
The sliding doors opened with a gentle whir as Butch stepped forth. There was a small entryway with another set of sliding doors in front of it, and beyond that, a greeter to say hello. It was an older man with glasses and a beard, and Butch returned his greeting with a nod as she walked into the main area. There, against a backdrop of gleaming lights and bright white-and-blue walls, were shelves filled with goods of all kinds. Red and yellow signs announced sales galore, even from the start of the store; aisles were filled with cart-wielding people who marched like ants in their purpose. Butch went and got one of those same carts with the greeter's help, leaving Blurr for a moment to take in the store.
Cassandra's little lesson made Blurr pause and think about such great numbers. Humans were little energy guzzlers! Blurr could relate. His intake of energon is higher than the average Cybertronian. A soft amused hum escaped from him as he pondered the average human intake to his... the idea of it was pretty similar, even if the amounts were vastly different.
Blurr too had gave a small wave towards the greeter of the store and as Cassandra parted from him to grab a cart, Blurr shuffled further into the stores entrance to behold the sight that was the inside of Wal-Mart. There was an odd smell upon entertaning, a smell that Blurr had never experienced in his life. It wasn't bad, it was just... odd. However the smell of Wal-Mart couldn't even compare to the sight of the large store. Shock slapped the speedster in the face as he glanced at all the commotion happening in front of him... there was just so much to take in!
Quite the scene grew into something a bit more entertaining though, a small human child held something small in his hands and dropped it off the side of the cart he was sitting in. He immediately began to cry and throw a tantrum over the object as his mother scolded him, seemingly unaware of the loss of the child's item. Blurr couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at such a scene while they walked by, what an obnoxious kid, the object was out of his hands for a second before he started to scream and cry his head off. However, it felt wrong to not give the item back, maybe then it will get the kid to stop screaming like a menace. Blurr jogged up to the toy and picked it up... only to realize that it was a tiny car.
"No way... this is so cool!" Blurr said, grinning upon the toy. The details were so fine considering it was such a small model. As much as he kind of wanted to keep it, he could still hear the kid screaming and he knew he had to return it. With a quick glance up towards the mother and the child to confir their location, Blurr didn't hesitate to jog towards them.
"Hello! Sorry, uh, your child dropped this."
With an extended hand to the kid, the car sat upside down in his palm. The kid suddenly stopped crying, with strange thick liquid falling from his olfactory sensor... gross. Blurr couldn't help but raise his eyebrows in disgust, what the hell was that?
The woman thanked Blurr and the kid reached out to retrieve his lost toy. Once the good deed was done, Blurr ran back towards Cassandra. He hadn't gone far, in fact he was still in eye sight of her.
"Cassandra, please don't tell me that the human children are like that at base. That one was loud and had strange substances coming out of every inch of its face. That was gross." Blurr said once he jogged back to her, he clearly looked like he had seen something unforgiving.

Cassandra glanced at the small child, having noticed the dropped toy. She was an observant woman, and the crying little one seemed to particularly catch her attention. She moved with purpose to go and return the car, but Blurr acted before she could. She stood back and watched as he observed and gave back the toy, jogging back to Butch with a disgusted look. She smiled and chuckled at his question.
"No, no, they're older and don't have such fits," Butch explained. "That child was crying, is all. Those were tears and a runny nose. He was really upset he didn't have his toy. What you did was very kind of you, Barry."
Butch began to push the cart forward, headed for the main aisle that cut through the store. "We're going to go to the snack and frozen food sections first," she explained. "The children would enjoy some treats, and so would the Sergeant and Lieutenant working at the base. It's nice to have a little something extra everyone can dig into, if they want."
Aisle after aisle Butch passed, dedicated to a plethora of human goods and needs. First was a large section for vegetables, cool and humid and with lit shelves of fresh produce. Then there was a bread section, stocked to the brim with baked goods and breads of every kind. Then they passed sections for cereal, cookies and other boxed foods, and came to a set of freezers. Butch made a beeline for the frozen pizzas and pizza-like foods, picking up a couple boxes of what were labeled "Pizza Pockets". She took a moment to examine the other goods there, walking up and down the aisle until she came across some ice cream bars. Those too went in the cart.
"Riiiight, Barry, that's my name." He said, giving Cassandra a soft bump with his elbow on her arm.
Yeah, what he did was nice, though at least it quieted the kid up. Something about a crying kid made Blurr feel... guilty? Even if it was annoying.
As his human tour guide led the way down the aisles, Blurr simply followed behind her. Every few end cap they passed, Blurr stopped to have a look. Why? Well some of the end caps had plastic strips that held random little gadgets, fascinated by one of them, Blurr couldn't help but grab ahold of one of the displayed items. It was slightly rubbery, and it was shaped like a small stick with a square widening out at the top. A mixing spatula, that is what the paper hanging off of it read. It was cool looking, plus the one he grabbed was blue, which makes it even cooler. The speedster casually spun the tool in his hand and fidgeted with it as he continued following Cassandra.
Once they turned into the frozen aisles, Blurr looked around in awe at the walls of clear doors. "Woah-" He breathed out, reaching to one of the doors and popping it open, sticking his head inside. A temperature change... a drastic one. This was a cooler.
The speedster reached inside and picked one of the items off the shelf with the hand that wasn't holding the spatula he was still spinning around. He then pulled out a small box with breaded shaped creatures on the front.
"Yummy Dino Buddies." he read, pursing his lips together in thought as he stared at the box, he then pointed to the box with the spatula and stared at Cassandra with a questioning look, "I thought Dinosaurs were extinct. How are you able to consume them?"
Post by Cassandra Cassidy on Aug 16, 2023 20:59:06 GMT -5
"Haha, good one, Barry," Butch said, playing off the question as if it were a joke. There was only one other person in the frozen goods section, and they were at the other far end, but Butch wanted to play it safe. "They're shaped like dinosaurs, not made of them. It's something the children like."
She did a double-take when she noticed the spatula in his hands. "Good thinking, but we don't need a spatula," she pointed out. "We could use a few other things, though. If I gave you a list, do you think you could help me go up and down the next few aisles?" She pursed her lips, thinking for a moment.
"Actually, put those Dinosaur Buddies in the cart. The kids we're buying for might like those." They could go in a microwave, right? Butch stuck all sorts of things in the microwave that were better suited for an oven. Such foods turned out fine, for the most part. Yeah, she'd burned fish a couple of times, but she trusted that the teenagers on base - at least, she thought she recalled they were teens - had sensible judgment. Then again, when she was a teen, she hadn't been the most.... Wise person....
I'll leave instructions, the cleaner decided. She pushed the cart towards the snack aisle, saying, "Leave the spatula in the cart. I can put it back later." Once she got to the snacks, she began reaching for boxes of popcorn, tossing them in quickly before moving onto the chips. Several backs of cheese snacks, nachos, and corn chips made their way into the cart, followed by a jar of queso and some salsa.
Got it, humans not only enjoy eating other animals, but enjoy eating things that are shaped like them, too. That's a strange concept. Blurr placed the Dino Buddies into the car as well as the spatula as instructed.
"Sure, give me a list, I'll find what you need. It cant be that hard right? I mean theres road signs everywhere."
As he continued to follow Cassandra into the chip aisle. He was honestly disinterested in the section... that was until the crinkling of the corn chip bag that Cassandra had grabbed pulled his attention to the long half wall of bags of similar shape. Blurr curiously grabbed a random bag from the shelf.
'Funyuns' it read. Blurr gently squeezed the bag, making it crinkle in his grip. The packaging was airy... light...
He gave it a little shake. There were definitely things inside. Blurr suddenly squeezed the bag and a loud 'POP' sounded as well as small crackles and snaps as the contents fell to the floor. Funyun dust and crumbs littered Blurr's converse as all the chips laid by his feet.
Blurr's eyes widened and he snapped his head to look up at Cassandra, unsure of what to do with the bag or with the crunchy mess by his feet, "I-I... Uh, sorry? I didn't know that would happen."
Post by Cassandra Cassidy on Aug 16, 2023 21:24:35 GMT -5
Cassandra was staring in dismay at the mess Blurr had made. The loud pop had caught her off-guard, and she whirled around so fast to face him she almost knocked the cart with her elbow. The cleaner sighed, giving Blurr a disappointed look.
"It's fine, just...don't do it again," she said. "We have to pay for anything we break. Come on, now, help me clean this up; we'll put the remains in the cart." Butch knelt down after examining which end of the bag had exploded, thankful that only one end was open. The Funyuns she started picking up a handful at a time, people leaning in or peeking around the corner to stare at her and Blurr's mess.
Once the Funyun explosion had been contained, Butch rolled up the open bag. She put it in the top part of her cart, saying, "Now, we're going to need drinks for the fridge and cupboards. Pepsi, Fanta, coffee, tea...that should be a good variety. We'll have to go back to another aisle for coffee and tea. You'll want the brands 'Folgers' for the coffee and 'Lipton' for the tea, respectively. You're looking for regular coffee and black tea. As for the Pepsi and Fanta, those are soft drinks. The Pepsi is black, and the Fanta is yellow-orange. Can you remember that and run ahead to the next aisle?"
She trusted that would be easy enough for him to remember. Just because he had caused one mess didn't mean he'd cause another one. Butch was patient and willing to walk him through the steps of human goings-on. He obviously wasn't used to using his holoform.
Blurr had been quick to assist, he had felt a bit embarrassed by what he had just done. Who knew the bag was so easy to blow up?
Once Cassandra rolled up the bag, the speedster turned his attention back to her, listening to her order. With a grin, Blurr nodded. "Sure sure, no problem. I got you." He reassured. he had full confidence that he could carry out this simple task.
Blurr spun around and literally did what he was just told, even if it had been figurative, Blurr ran to the next isle. "coffee, tea, Pepsi, Phanta- coffee,tea,Pepsi,Phanta- coffeeteaPepsiPhanta" He quietly told himself as he dashed out of the isle, repeating it so was to help keep it fresh in his mind. Once he turned the corner to the new isle, Blurr had to sort of stumble to a stop and dodge a bit to the right to avoid colliding into some guy and his cart.
"Sorry!" He quickly apologized as he maneuvered around him, running here was probably a terrible idea.
The poor older gentleman that Blurr almost tackled gave Blurr a nasty and agitated look before rolling his eyes and continuing on with his shopping. "Kids." he grumbled.
Once Blurr rook a moment to look around, he realized that trying to find four items out of everything here was going to be a challenge.
Challenge accepted!
If only he could remember what the hell he was looking for again...
