"Slow down a bit!" Butch called after Blurr as he dashed away to find the drinks. "The aisles are getting busy!"
Butch went down the aisle for one more quick check to see if anything stood out to her. When it didn't, she maneuvered her cart around and poked her head into the next aisle to look at Blurr. When she saw he was standing there idly, she called out, "Pepsi, Fanta, Folgers coffee, and Lipton tea!" to make sure he remembered it. She then wheeled the cart an aisle over, coming to a section full of different pre-baked goods and cookies.
"Let's see..." the cleaner murmured to herself, walking slowly down the white-tiled path to where some chocolate chip cookies sat. Butch grabbed some of those, as well as some Oreos, Twinkies, chocolate cupcakes, and snack cakes. Putting each neatly into the cart, the cleaner smiled and wheeled the rest of the way to the end of the section. Turning a corner, she popped back into the section Blurr had been left in to see how he was doing.
The speedster started at one end of the isle and began to walk down it, looking for any of the items on the list that he now had on repeat in his mind. As he was walking, he stopped upon seeing the word coffee on one of the packages. Perfect! one item down!
He looked at the bag and went to reach for it, however that's when he realized the bag beside it also read coffee... and so did the bag next to that one. in fact-
Blurr stepped back for a moment, examining the wall harshly. Several shelves were lined with all sorts of coffee. "Folgers Coffee." he repeated. Fortunately, reading quickly wasn't an issue for him. With a quick scan over the shelves, he stumbled upon the one he was looking for.
With a swift grab, Blurr pulled it off the shelf. Bingo! However how many did Cassandra need? Blurr shrugged and piled a few more into his arm before moving on.
He didn't have to move far since the tea was right beside the coffee. The Lipton tea was much easier to find since there were so many kinds of it. Blurr casually grabbed as many boxes as he could possibly carry that were labeled Lipton.
At this point, he couldn't carry anything else in arms. He'd have to make a pit stop by Cassandra's shopping cart, thus a pit stop he made.
After leaving the aisle to meet up with Cassandra, he leaned over her cart and allowed everything in his arms tumble inside of the cart's basket. A proud grin lined his face, who knew he could carry so much in his holoform? "Two out of four retrieved, I'll be back with the Fanta and Pepsi." He stated, swiveling on his heel to head back the way he came.

It was then that Butch realized that she had to be more specific in what she told Blurr to get. The mountain of coffee and teas was met with raised eyebrows, eyes following Blurr's goods down as they were dropped in the cart. True to her instruction, he had grabbed Folgers Coffee and Lipton Tea, but there was decaf, green tea, orange tea, Earl Grey tea.... Butch counted enough caffeinated options for a small army. She was buying for a base, but they didn't need that much.
(The variety, however, was noted as a wise decision. Cassandra decided to keep a few of the extra types in case someone preferred one over the other.)
Blurr was gone and off shopping again before she could tell him to take anything back. Butch wordlessly followed him into the aisle, taking some of the extra they didn't need and putting it back on the shelf. No doubt Blurr would be fast enough to return with the goods before she was done returning the stuff. Until then, time could be spent trimming fat from their purchase.
Blurr headed down the aisle and allowed his eyes to scan over the contents on the shelves. It was still fascinating to think that humans actually used all of this stuff. It must be a pain to be the one in charge of inventory here. With all the small items that need to go up on these shelves, Blurr absolutely could not stand a job like that.
As Blurr's eyes wandered, they fell upon a clear bottle full of a bright blue liquid which had stopped the Wrecker in his tracks. Curiously, he pulled it from the shelf... it almost looked like Energon.
"Hawaiian Punch?" The speedster questioned, raising an eyebrow in suspicion. Clearly, it wasn't Energon because it was missing the glow, but it was impressive to see something so similar in color. In fact, it was exactly the same shade of blue Blurr was. It should be renamed to 'Blurr's Punch'.
With an amused grin at the idea, the speedster placed it back on the shelf and continued to look around, completely forgetting what it was he was trying to find. He seemed to be easily amused by the different drinks in the aisle. There were so many colors, shapes and sizes... and some of the names were odd but humorous... dare he even say creative.

With the caffeinated beverages pared down, Butch wheeled over to rejoin Blurr as he scanned the drinks. In her cart was now one of each Lipton tea, one of the regular Folgers Coffee containers, and another container which had decaf. The cleaner had arranged everything to sit neatly on the bottom of the cart, with the smaller items sitting on top of the larger. An approving smile was given to her and Blurr's handiwork.
"How are you doing?" Butch asked as she wheeled up beside the speedster. His enthusiasm was endearing, as was his curiosity. It reminded Butch so much of her own, and how much she wanted to - and still had to learn - about Blurr's kind. "Did you want me to find the Pepsi and Fanta while you go do something else? If you want, I can send you to a quieter aisle."
She'd noticed his attention seemed to wandering. Though not a psychologist, Butch had had friends who had trouble with focus and changing attention spans. Perhaps he was overwhelmed and found it hard to focus; perhaps he had something awry with processing his surroundings. Butch wouldn't judge, but instead extended an offer in case he needed to go stand somewhere less busy.
"I'm doing great, thanks for asking." Blurr hummed. A moment of silence passed by after Cassandra offered to retrieve the items Blurr was supposed to grab.
With a sudden snap of his fingers that slid into a pointed gesture towards the human before him, Blurr remembered what he was supposed to do "Right!" he smacked his palm to his forehead and chuckled.
"I'm sorry, I keep forgetting. I have a bit of trouble with remembering sometimes. A bit of a glitch I picked up a long time ago. It's been pretty bad lately. There's so many new things I've been trying to remember since arriving here on Ear- I mean, town." He quickly recovered. "Honestly seeing so many new things keeps distracting me and it pulls my attention away from my thoughts."
However with a quick flick of a hand in the air, he waved off the matter, "Not a real problem though, I'll go get the Fanta and Pepsi now." He offered.
Blurr looked back around the aisle and spotted both of them only a few feet away from where they stood, convenient!
The speedster walked over and grabbed a couple of each... these weren't as easy to hold as the tea and coffee, so he could only grab a few at a time.
Once he placed the bigger boxes in the cart, he walked back over to where the Hawaiian Punch was. "Hey Cassandra! Check this one out. I don't know what Hawaiian Punch is, but I think it should be renamed to Blurr's Punch, don't you think? I mean the resemblance in color is uncanny!" He stated, holding the large plastic bottle next to his face as a goofy grin slid its way into sight.

Ah, so he did have troubles with his thoughts. Memory, to be exact. Butch smiled as Blurr went and grabbed a twelve-pack of each, then went over to the Hawaiian Punch. She chuckled as Blurr held it up, saying, "You're right, it's as blue as your hair. Why don't we get some for the children and pick up some plastic cups so they can enjoy some, hm?"
The budget was going to be stretched a bit, but honestly? Blurr's playful ideas had some merit to them. Butch was used to shopping for essentials that could be thrown in a microwave at a moment's notice. To think outside the box a bit, especially for kids? It wasn't something that came to mind for her. Blurr was giving her all sorts of suggestions for extra things the children might like. He seemed to be one of those "fun" types that she could see a bunch of youths getting along with. A "cool uncle" to them, if one willed.
"Next we have to grab those plastic cups, and they're a few aisles over," Butch said. "Then we have to grab an over-sized beach ball...not sure why, but someone asked for it. Oh, and someone asked for WD-40 oil...I think that might be different than WD-40 the lubricant. We'll have to look." Skirmisher hadn't put it on her list, but mentioned to her some time ago about looking for it. If only she had thought of asking him what the difference was.... Maybe she had, and she'd forgotten about it?
"If memory is a problem for you, there are some solutions I can think of," Butch offered to the speedster, beginning to wheel along to the next aisle. "We have little bits of paper - Post-It Notes - we stick to places to help us remember things. You can write on them what you need to remember and put it in a place you'd think to look. I'll pick some up for you, if you think it would help."
((Mention of Skirmisher approved by Marek OOCly.))
Ah yes, the giant beach ball. The thing humans did not consume... where could that be in this giant store? He hasn't seen it yet... though he figured he'd find out soon.
Blurr walked beside Cassandra and casually placed his hand on the side of the cart as she told him about this WD-40 oil and these so called Post-It Notes. "Well oil and lubricant are two different things." the mech commented. "Whoever asked for it seemed like they specifically requested the oil, so that is what we'll have to look for. I'll help you." but these note thingies Cassandra mentioned? The idea of them piqued Blurr's interest. He turned his head to look at her, flashing her a small smile before looking around in the new aisle they had entered.
"They stick to places? Like... everywhere? If that's the case I can't turn down the suggestion. I'd never forget anything if that's the case! I'll definitely try it out." Blurr chuckled as a quick thought had passed is mind, a rather playful one. These sticky notes would have been an interesting thing to stick around the base. He could leave notes for others to find... maybe once in awhile slip one onto another bot.
It was a harmless prank that Blurr most definitely would have pulled if he were with his fellow Wreckers. Unfortunately, that was not where he currently was. Perhaps it wasn't a good idea to overstep that boundary. He'd hate for it to become and issue for the other Autobots at the base. He just wasn't sure what was and wasn't allowed yet, settling in was rather difficult here, it wasn't what he was used to... everything is much more... Serious... strict.
Blurr pulled away from his thoughts and looked towards the human again, "So, you and the other humans back at the base, I know there are areas for you to stay in, but do you all live there?"
Post by Cassandra Cassidy on Sept 8, 2023 16:00:40 GMT -5
"Thank you, Barry," Butch said. "I'm not used to shopping for many things related to cars."
The Post-It Note suggestion seemed to go well with the mech. "Indeed, you can stick them almost anywhere," the cleaner clarified, happy that Blurr was open to the idea. She grabbed a few more things from their most current aisle, then started making a beeline for the stationery. Thankfully it was across from the grocery aisle, and right up from where the toys were. That was where Butch felt she'd find the massive beach ball.
"I live in Jasper," Butch explained to Blurr's next line of questions. "I have an apartment there. The others, too, have homes they go to. No one except you and your...colleagues...live at base. I wouldn't talk about it too much in public, though." Her voice dropped lower here, anticipating a crowd of shoppers that walked by and chattered away. The ambient noise was enough of a distraction for most, but there were people out there that picked up on little conversations along the way. Butch was one of those people, sometimes focused on snippets of gossip while it looked like she was busy.
"Here we are, stationery and craft supplies," Butch announced as she turned into the named aisle. All sorts of colorful sheets, paints, glitter, and other craft accessories adorned the place. It was a riot of color and artistic options, one which Butch quickly skimmed through while she looked for the Post-It Notes. When she found them, she held up a package of multicolored ones for Blurr to inspect.
"Here," she said. "Post-It Notes. A bit small for your regular size, but workable with the way you are now."
Barry! Right! How could he be so stupid, already forgetting his mini undercover mission. It was so hard to pretend he was human, their terminology and life habits just weren't natural to him.
Blurr visibly grew annoyed with himself, he really had to watch what comes out of his mouth from now on. However it was good to know that the humans didn’t live there. Not that he didn’t want them to of course, he just assumed that living in such restricted areas must have gotten annoying to deal with. At least that is what Blurr felt like. At least the humans were free to go where ever they pleased.
Once they had reached the crafting aisle, Blurr looked around in astonishment, only to be brought out of his trance by a package held by his current human mentor. He blinked in surprise before reaching out and grabbing the notes, flipping and overturning them in his hands to inspect them.
“They aren’t sticky, you liar.” Blurr started with a huff before cracking a grin, tapping the top of Cassandra’s head gently with the package a few times before stepping past her, moving deeper into the aisle. “Hehe, just kidding, I know they’re sealed. But look at this area! What’s all this used for- woah…” He stopped mid walk, his sights landing on the glitter section. It was so sparkly and colorful. Blurr reached out and grabbed a vile of it, holding it up to the artificial lighting. “What in the name of Primus do you use this stuff for? It looks like sand… but colorful and shiny.” he hummed in thought.

"Arts and crafts," Butch answered, stepping to walk beside Blurr. "All of this is used in the expression of art by people, and then some. Some is used for mundane purposes as well, like your Post-It Notes."
It was no surprise at this point that Blurr was attracted to the glitter. He seemed like he was up for novel experiences, and by the sounds of it, glitter was one such experience to the space-faring alien. "That is glitter," Butch answered, "and it's used along with an adhesive like glue to give something shine. Terrible to try and clean up after, though. It gets everywhere and can last in place for days. I wouldn't get that if I were you, unless you have an art project that you can clean up after with a good vacuum."
Back to the cart she walked. She waited for Blurr to finish admiring the art section, ready to answer any more questions he had. For the most part, he wasn't attracting attention, and people were passing them by as if it were two regular humans out on an errand. Butch was confident that Blurr would continue to learn from this experience, and be able to pull off the human disguise better at their next stop.
“Ah, so like… the same effects in color shift paint?” Blurr questioned as he placed the glitter back onto the shelf. It was more of a rhetorical question. He knew that sparkly paint was a thing… it really wasn’t his style though, he preferred the gloss finish.
The speedster turned to face Cassandra and placed his hands on his hips. “I don’t know why you guys use glue, it’s not the best at keeping that stuff applied to surfaces, unless you have some sort of protective coat to put over it?”
Knowledge about paints and finishes wasn’t odd knowledge for Blurr to know, after all, he used to live a lavish life. He knew trends and styles as far as Cybertronian standards went. His holoform also reflected some sort of style sense, too, even if it was foreign. He clearly had a keen color sense.
Suddenly a mischievous smirk plastered itself onto his face, “You should get glitter for the hu-... children. I’m sure they’d love you for it.”

"Something like that," Butch answered. "These more catch the light. There is some glitter that changes color, but I don't see any of that here."
She smirked when Blurr put his hands on his hips, talking as if from a position of authority. Was he some sort of artist back on Cybertron, as well as a famed racer? Butch would have to pick his brain later to find out. "Sometimes it's for casual crafts," said she, "and no one's really thinking about a protective coat."
Then he suggested they get glitter for the children. Butch made a quiet snort, and her smile grew larger and more knowing. "That we could, but it's likely to get everywhere. No, it's best we leave it here, unless you want your superiors asking why there are sparkles over the entirety of the base." There would be no mischief involving glitter and her, if Butch had anything to say about it.
Moving forward with the cart, Butch motioned for Blurr to follow her once more. The next stop was the toy aisle, and what a cavalcade of juvenile delights it was. Raging, wrinkly dinosaurs took up space behind by shelfwarming Go-Bot figures from the latest movie; Barbie dolls stood pretty in pink beside little toy pet shops. Butch scanned the shelves as best she could, moving from the more indoor toys to the outdoor ones. It was beside a bunch of water guns that she let out a satisfied, "Aha!" and pulled out a deflated, colorful package.
"Blow-up beach ball. Not the size I was looking for, but close enough."
Blurr followed the human’s lead, his eyes glancing at things that caught his attention as they made their way over to… wherever it was they were going next.
Too bad she didn’t agree to the glitter, Blurr thought the idea to be entertaining. Give the human children glitter and disassociate from the situation as if he had no idea where they could have possibly gotten it from. Humans were clearly creative, he was wondering what they would have done with it. Besides, the base could use some decor! Glitter most definitely could have covered up the bland walls. Literally.
Once they entered the new aisle, Blurr’s eyes widened as he glanced down the shelves. It was… overwhelming.
He didn’t even notice Cassandra walk off to go grab the beach ball simply because he was already inviting himself to explore the area as soon as she turned her back to him.
Blurr strolled down the aisles, poking and prodding at toys that interested him… especially the ones that specifically asked him to ‘press here’. Like this giant dinosaur.
Blurr crouched down to the lower shelf and pressed the button that instructed him to do so, causing the large toy to roar loudly and wiggle in its restraints inside the box. Blurr raised an eyebrow and leaned away from the toy. That was probably the worst recording he’s ever in his life.
Post by Cassandra Cassidy on Sept 15, 2023 18:20:08 GMT -5
By now, Butch expected Blurr to be poking and prodding at whatever was in the aisle. She didn't think there was much harm he could do since learning from the Funyun incident, so she let him be. The beach ball was placed carefully in the cart, and the cleaner turned and walked over to where Blurr was playing with a dinosaur. She wondered if he thought the recording was real.
"I think we have everything," Butch said. "We can head for the checkout now, and then I can show you a bit of Vegas. Unless you want to get yourself a little souvenir first?"
She meant it half-jokingly, but she also didn't see the harm in letting Blurr pick something out from the store. It could be a memento of his first trip into the city. Perhaps he'd pick something he could decorate with, or perhaps he'd buy a knick-knack he could keep in his car form. As long as it wasn't glitter, Butch would be fine with making last-minute room in her budget for it.
"It can be almost anything in the store. Just remember some things are more expensive than others - "
"Mommy, I want a Hot Wheels!" came a shrill voice from somewhere behind them. A young boy in a Go-Bots shirt ran excitedly towards several cases of die-cast cars, reaching eagerly for them. His light-up shoes flashed red as he tried to jump and reach the toys. His mother immediately chided him and reminded him that their birthday present shopping was for his brother, which was immediately met with a loud, "But I waaaant iittt!"
