Week 2, Day 6, 9PM Nevada time (1 PM at destination)
Location of Decepticon energon mine
The faint metallic oily air of Omega Base was poised with expectation. The Autobots wage their war and against their ancient enemies, the Decepticons, on many fronts. This day the battle was part of the ongoing effort of stealing resources, to bolster their own and hinder their foes.
Some time ago, very few knew when and where, Decepticon scientists seeded Earth with energon, so that it may grow and they could mine later. One such deposit was located in Gibson Desert North, Western Australia. The Decepticons guarded their mining operations with lethal force and Autobot raids had to be well coordinated for any real chance of success. So the Autobots scouted first. That was the plan.
A small three person squad was going in to see what they could, and gather intel so those of a tactical persuasion could construct a plan of attack, should one be feasible. Rain, a long limbed femme, white, blue and streaked with green, sat at the Ground-bridge controls, one hand resting on the activation lever. Her single blue optic stared at the screens providing cartography and positioning data. One screen showed the exit destination for the ground-bridge, a picture of dust and sand and rock as viewed from five Kilometers high.
Standing ready at the dormant portal of the ground-bridge was another flier, white and orange with blue highlights. Those who knew Sundance from the last two weeks might be surprised by her demeanor. She was utterly calm and focused and actually serious. Normally her rambunctious side was to the fore. The challenge was to be level headed, and she was always up for a challenge. Suni nodded once to each member of her squad, making sure everyone was set, and then nodded once more at Rain.
Rain pulled the lever for the ground-bridge and the scintillating portal of exotic energy broached the intervening distance of space-time, opening a ten meter corridor that exited three kilometers due north of the Decepticon mine. While this side, the portal was vertical and floor level, the exit was 45 degrees to the ground, south facing, and five kilometers up in the air. Sundance ran at the portal and through. On the other side in Australia, she transformed as she stepped out into open air and glided away under minimum thrust.
Rain shifted the lever one more killing power to the portal. Two switches were flipped setting the destination portal to vertical and ground level for the two grounders of the squad. The lever was pulled one more time and the portal blazed into existence again.
